Mare, are there any plans to add the option to zoom in like how it was in N+?

Excellent sequel, by the way. I've been using it as a therapeutic way to wind down after work each day since I got it.

Yeah due to replays this game's save file is very PS+-unsafe. It's mostly Sony's fault after all, but I can't really shove the 100MB save file into the cloud, I guess I'll make manual backups on occasion.

Really wish Sony would do some fixing with the PS+/PS4 save situation. Saves are too big, cloud is too small.

The gold was intended as a sort of "second level" for experts, not as something that everyone should try for; we're going to see if we can communicate this a bit more clearly in the future.

In the meantime, don't worry about it :)
Thanks for taking the time to share all of this. I think it is going to help tremendously for my sanity.

So one question for you.
How is the score calculated for the leaderboards?
Is it how fast you do the 5 levels? How many times you die? How much gold you collect? All 3?
Just wondering how the score is calculated. If Gold does play a factor to how high a score is, it is going to be very hard for me to resist trying to get it as you suggested. Although I will never be at the top of the leaderboards, I cannot be on the bottom. LOL

I don't say this lightly...

This game is basically perfect. It accomplishes every single goal it sets out to, it plays perfectly, it has perfectly designed levels and perfect integration of music.

It's... perfect.

Good advice. That's how I'm playing actually. At first, I try to beat level, and then I go back to pick up all gold (if possible).

And thanks guys for the game. It's very addictive and stylish.

I'm just trying to unlock stuff right now by just beating the levels

What I love about it is that it allows you to express yourself through its gameplay

I believe score is simply time left, as gold increases time. The best score should then be the best time to get all gold, unless there are situations where getting all gold doesn't result in the highest time left (or if gold counts extra somehow)

Yeah, the leaderboards are simply time left at the end of the episode or specific level.

Each piece of gold gives you two extra seconds, so feasibly there could be situations where a piece of gold takes longer to get than two seconds so you'd leave it, but it's not a common thing.

Been reading the last few pages and I'm floored by the revelation of secret exit tasks. And sounds like everyone is loving the game overall, save bugs notwithstanding.

But this also makes me mad about the pre-order savings thing. I know it's been hashed out here already and I don't want to derail, but count me as a hater of this policy. Weren't pre-orders designed to give retails an idea of how much to stock? Why do we need these on digital games? There's no demo, so waiting for impressions is important. Game seems worth $20 for sure but it would have been nice to take advantage of the discount after seeing community impressions.... Grr.

No, pre-orders are designed purely to sell games based on "hype" alone, in order that a retailer/publisher can make as much money as possible before the quality of the final product is known - it's loosely linked to launch-day review embargoes also.

Sometimes it's okay and the final game turns out great, sometimes it's Aliens: Colonial Marines.

I can sympathize (I do think the discount should have been at least for the whole week, or the duration of the Play campaign), buuuut we did have a ton of glowing impressions from the Beta :)

Done with the Intro and A- and B-Levels of the N++ section with roughly 10 hours on the clock now. That's 325 of of the 2360 levels finished.
The easiest levels of the game... Without going for the gold stuff in the N++-section, what would probably triple the amount of time (or even more).

Yeah, that will take me a while...

They should have had the discount for the entire launch week and give preorders some other bonus. It would have helped with sales of the game.

Are you counting menu time in that? Seems a bit high, but I love that the game tracks gametime and menu time separately.

Speaking of tracking, is the game mode tracking broken? It says 90% of my games were races. I played 5 episodes of races and like 50 solo. Even in a time-based calculation there's no way that's right.

Yeah I do see a few people saying they don't want to buy because they missed the preorder--IMO launch week discount > preorder bonus discount. It's the best of both worlds, you get to wait for reviews AND you get a discount for buying early.

But it was part of Sony's Play promo so probably more up to Sony than Metanet at that point

I realize that there is a trophy for getting all the gold, which was maybe a mistake.

Maybe... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Honestly, you will enjoy the game a lot more if you don't obsess with gold and just try to make it to the exit.. we regret making the all-gold badges visible from the start since people are getting side-tracked. Sorry! Our mistake.

The game is a lot more fun if you play through it just trying to beat the levels, and *then* -- once you've beaten all the levels you can and developed as much skill as possible -- return to clean up all that gold. Then it will be very fun and not a grueling grind.

The gold was intended as a sort of "second level" for experts, not as something that everyone should try for; we're going to see if we can communicate this a bit more clearly in the future.

You are completely right. When I started playing I was grueling through the levels trying to get all of the gold and then I was like you know what... forget about it, I'll just come back to it later. I've been having a lot more fun ever since. I do attempt to get all of the gold pieces some times, especially if the level is "easier." I just wanted to thank you guys for making a phenomenal game. You may have seen in a previous post that I was considering getting it, but now I'm glad I bought it. It's the game that I never knew I wanted.

Game time is about 8 hours. Getting all gold in the intro section took me a while on a few levels.

Oh, you're all gold, that explains everything lol. I don't think their deterrent to 100%ing worked nearly as well as expected. All gold is satisfying but there's always That One Level per episode where I just say "nope" and continue on

This is exactly me. I come to the end of the group having gotten all of the gold and then I reach THAT ONE LEVEL and I'm like...

Thanks all who replied about what makes the score.
Honestly after hearing it if I just paid a bit more attention the game spells it all out for you.
Bar at top counting down. Get a gold piece the bar increases.
It is all there.
Just really helped having it explained once.
Now that I put it all together, I amazingly currently own the highest score on my friends leaderboard on a handful of the earlier levels. I know it is temporary, but it feels good for now. LOL
So it really has made a tremendous difference just knowing the basics.
  • Time counts.
  • Gold pieces increase time.
Deciding if the gold is worth it or not is really one of the big keys. On top of just being able to navigate the levels themselves.

Really is a brilliant game.

Hi -- sorry about this, we made some last-minute changes to that level that ended up making that gold impossible... we'll fix it the next update!
You monster! (Well at least now I know)

Just hit 5000 deaths, got all gold on the intro levels and the fastest time on episode SI-E-00 :D

Continued up to S-E-00-02 where my all-gold run got mare'd :(

Game is too awesome

oof, that save glitch that some people on here mentioned is terrifying me to play the game. I'd like to play, but I know if I lost my progress on some of these harder levels I'd lose my shit.

Maybe I should wait to get further? :/

Not since I was a wee lad playing SMB and Mega Man has my body reacted in the way it does to N++. Once again I'm waving my arms about with the controller like a possessed maniac, hoping it'll guide my Ninja just that much farther, pressing the ever loving shit outta the D-Pad and jump button, hoping the strength of my push will somehow correlate to a better result on screen.

And then I die.

I wonder if it's one of those things where the game is saving so often that if you quit out mid game to join a party in another game or something you might just catch it at the wrong time.

Go back to the main menu for a few seconds before quitting?

Yeah I'm thinking of swapping to an older controller for this game. Feel like it will wreck my new one pretty fast :p

It sounds similar to something like that since the other member said he quit out mid game to play Far Cry...

Maybe just be extra careful and quit to the main menu in-game and then close the app through the PS4 dash? I don't know. :x

I find I prefer the stick to d pad in this, usually the opposite for platformers, but since this is only left/right and there's lots of minor left/right movements to cancel a bit of momentum, the stick feels right somehow.

I played N+ on the 360 using solely the analog stick because fuck that D-pad. Now that it's on Playstation I finally get to use a good D-pad, but shit, my thumb is actually getting sore pretty quickly. I have to switch to the stick every once in a while just for a reprieve. Goddamn newfangled consoles and their analog sticks made me gone soft :/

I grew up on the OG Genesis D-pad BTW, which you know is one stiff mofo. I did eventually graduate to the 6-button which was a dream, of course.

I use the d-pad because that's just where my thumb comfortably sits on the controller. I probably used the stick on 360 for the same reason, it's one of those games which is perfectly playable either way!

I feel like this is the only game to ever give me hand cramps. Constant quick left right left right movements on the D-PAD I guess.

I also use the stick, but I'm pretty sure movement is digital in this game, so you aren't really making those "minor movements" any more than the d pad would

I don't mean analog movement, I mean quickly flicking the stick back and forth between left/right, can be very important to control momentum if you have too much.

I'm *really* sorry about this. Also, I have bad news: the file is already corrupt (this is something that the PS4 detects and reports to us, we have no control over it and can't recover it regardless) so I'm afraid you've lost it all again. I'm so, so sorry.

Yea, the save bug sucks big time for sure, but it's good to know that you guys have it as a top priority.

It's a testimony to the quality of your game that even after losing my save file twice, I still plan to jump right back in tonight after work. That said, I may stick to creating levels for a little while waiting to see if this stuff gets sorted out. Losing a save file for a third time would be a bit much. Honestly, the thing that bums me out the most is the loss of all the colors I've unlocked. I love the various color schemes, and it's gonna suck to have to unlock them all again.

If there's anything I can do to help you guys try to isolate the bug, system info or anything like that, please let me know.

We finally, mercifully have the opportunity to play a big-screen N+ game on a proper d-pad, and y'all use the sticks?!

If there's no 4 or 8 way movement and do double tapping, there's really little advantage to a d pad over a stick. It's just a binary left/right and wiggling a stick is as easy or easier than left/right waggling on a d pad.

I feel really awful about this. It appears to happen to certain people only, so it could be a playstation problem or a bug somewhere that is found with a particular usage type. Are you switching games a lot? or load another game while N++ is running forcing it to quit? or doing a lot of messaging/changing games while messaging?

We've contacted Sony about it and are trying to fix it, but we really don't understand how it's happening right now.

Is the game autosaving while minimized? If so, it could be saving while being closed in the process of another game being started. At least, this is what happened to me. I hope it is fixed soon because I want to start playing again and I don't want to lose another 5-10 or so hours.

Last night it happened after closing N++ to play Rocket League. I was cautious after losing my save te first time, so I made sure to back out to the main menu of N++, I then hit the playstation button and loaded up rocket league, which of course gave me the message that N++ would be closed. Upon loading back into the game, directly from Rocket League, I got the dreaded corruption message.

Some other notes about my PS4 usage:

I almost never fully turn my PS4 off, always rest mode. For that particular N++ session, I turned the ps4 on from rest mode and it loaded right tithe N++ main menu.

Both times the save corruption error happened I was in party chat with one other person.

I've exited in and out of N++ several other times with no incident.

Working on and unlocking a few of those 'No death' trophies. Cool stuff.

I really love the unlockable colour schemes! Something for every mood ;)

Evening, Bordeaux and Galactic are my favourites so far. Evening and Galactic, in particular, are perfect for winding down at night after a day at work :)

Hooooooly shit "House of ten Axis".

Hooooooly shit.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Took me half an hour and 80 tries but I finally beat it.

So is there some trick to 'go fish' or were you just in a really bad mood that day?

Lol... I would love to think that one of the developers had a bad day and was like I'm just going to take it out on this level and get it past testing with "god-mode" hacks, but the consumer can deal with it.

Goddamn this game is good.

The controls are tight, the interface is slick, you reload immediately after dying, and the music is awesome. And the level design is crazy. It's sort of like another Super Meat Boy, except with different physics and a different art style.

This game is going to suck up a not insignificant portion of the next couple of weeks.

Press L2 and it's there in the bottom left corner :) (if in a level, pause it)

Just got a bug: Was running B-10 in N++ Solo, got to level 2 and only had a bit over 1.5 seconds to beat the level. Had to quit and restart B-10 to fix it. Has this happened to anyone?
