Same here.

I feel that I'll actually enjoy all the new characters this time around. It just sucks that we have to wait till October for next newcomer.

The backlash against SFV Ken is kind of baffling to me. It's honestly the first Ken design that I've liked.

You know...Ken has really only been right in SF3 and maaaaybe Alpha.

SF2 had the Owen Wilson nose.
SF4 had the He-Man cut

Ken may just be hard to get completely right lol.

He was fine in Final Fight without them.

How many hundred people did he fight in that game? Cody is the strongest character by far in Street Fight, if he takes off the cuffs the game will be Cody Fighter and no one else will be viable.

Dont want to start a Capcom vs SNK Character Design War but i always liked the SNK characters alot more because they are all just... well people. Street Fighter can get really silly and i'm personally not a big fan of it. But i feel like that wouldnt fit SF completely, there characters have always been kinda over the top.

That being said: ANNOUNCE A NEW GAME ALREADY SNK. I DONT EVEN CARE, GIMME MAXIMUM IMPACT 3

F2P Microtransaction KOF Defense soon.

Akira had both looks in both games. The different forms actually played a bit differently too.

Man, I need a new Rival Schools ASAP.

Yeah we do.

eh I enjoy some level of smut but can also enjoy classy characters like king, hilde, and etc. I think it can happen eventually

I think it's disingenuous for people to keep trying to paint it as either, "she's pretty and is wearing (what I think) enough clothes. She's good to go" next to "She's fighting in something (I think) is scandalous. Why are we subjected to the perverted make gaze!?"

Same here... First time I actually consider playing him. Before he always looked like a lame blonde palette swap of Ryu.

The hair is a little off, though..

Kens face is definitely off (as well as his hair). He looks nothing like Ken. I really hope they change it. I am happy with the design change but he doesnt look right.

Honestly I think this is the best look Ken has had in a while, I really disliked his ridiculous He-man hairstyle in the last game.

Not every character is linked to anime.

While true, its kind of shocking how many aspects of Street Fighter lore and character design can be traced back to popular anime/manga. And people like to claim Street Fighter isn't anime :p

well i guess its okay to just ignore a majority of my post and just focus on something you can counter.

Also mai pose is awkward as fuck on any gender. Go ask a girl to go do that pose next time they are in a fight. They definitely made it worse in KOF13. Look at the older kofs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AupCLTKxVoU

Bras are also worn by women due to health reasons. Poses are nothing more than a social creation. They serve no other function so equating bra to poses is really dumb.

The pose exist solely for male gaze to get their rocks off. Some people are just asking for more than just that and have diversity. A character can be sexy without flaunting TnA everywhere.

And some fans want some diversity. I don't see why you have an issue with that. Some people want sexy without being what they considered "trashy"

Mai seems like a weird example considering who she is. She's over the top sexy because she is a seductress. The way the character has always been written is though she has the hots for Andy, she is well aware of her sex appeal and willing to use it to her advantage. My understanding is that the inspiration stems from the fact that many real life kunoichi used sex appeal to their advantage to garner information and such. You can say its male gazey but for that character it's clearly "the point" rather than the creator having no chill.

yeah I'm not saying cut any one group out. Hell I love mai (and she is my main), but I don't want SNK to make King suddenly have TnA floating around to appease one group only. "gutter" stuff is a-okay to have. Just don't make it primarily that stuff or none at all. Balance is key

Keep both sides happy.

SNK Playmore still couldn't resist having King's shirt explode at the end of a round if the last hit is from a fireball. I do think that King of Fighters generally has very good female representation though.

I think Ken looks fine as well. His VS screen model does not however, which is weird. I thought it'd be the same as the ingame model?

I can't wait to see the new characters... :D

Same here.

Same here as well. I am currently on holiday in Rome but still can't fight the temptation to check Gaf once in a while specifically for SFV news of any kind (even when this news could be weeks away at least...). I'm equally curious about the other 3 newcomers and the remaining returning (redesigned) veterans.

I'm kind of a nutcase like that, apparently.

Edit:
I think Ken looks fine as well. His VS screen model does not however, which is weird. I thought it'd be the same as the ingame model?

I'm also mostly in this camp, I think. For some reason his VS screen face looks a bit too evil or something, as if he's succumbed to Bison's psycho power like in the animated movie. In-game he looks less evil but perhaps still a bit off; not sure actually. He's always been cocky, but they might have gone too far with it in V so far I feel (unless he actually is supposed to look evil and ends up being a sub-boss or something).

The fact that they only had King and Yuri's clothes get destroyed in KoFXIII when there were other Art of Fighting characters on the roster too was dumb. Like, could they be anymore obvious?

Fansevice focused only one gender in games that feature both gets pretty creepy IMO. Include everyone or don't do it at all.

So, there's a new Street Fighter board game coming out. To me, this just adds further proof into the (obvious) addition of Juri in SFV.

You don't know your SNK history it seems.
King is from Art of Fighting 1.
In AoF 1 and later games in that series defeating an opponent with a special or super move would rip their clothes. King's clothes being ripped off when she gets hit by a super in XIII is just a throwback to that novelty from AoF.

If Juri's in, that also means Guile, Akuma, Alex and Oro are in too. This line of reasoning inevitably makes you discount the Siliconera rumours because there is simply not enough space in the cast for all of these to be true.

Ryu
Chun-Li
Ken
Bison
Nash
Birdie
Necalli
Rachid
Laura
Zen
Alex
Oro
Guile
Akuma
Juri
Urien
Karin
R. Mika

That's not 16.

Someone who talked to Bornfree at EVO said that he no longer thinks Oro is in (at least, the starting 16) for reasons he wouldn't disclose.

I like the design. The hair change is a good idea, just not implemented all that well. I hope they fix it. There's not really much precedent to them changing anything aesthetically after reveal to my knowledge. Hopefully SFV with the early reveal is different, but they already put out official art, so I dunno.

I'd rather a plain black shirt though. Don't care for the stripes.

Why would this confirm anything? Because she's there at all?

I didn't say it confirmed anything. I'm saying this shows off further population in the character, that Capcom is willing to put her out there. I mean it's Juri in a cast of SF2 characters.

They wouldn't haven't have a problem adding her in, and I'm sure they'd love to add somebody from SFIV and Juri would be that pick.

If Juri's in, that also means Guile, Akuma, Alex and Oro are in too. This line of reasoning inevitably makes you discount the Siliconera rumours because there is simply not enough space in the cast for all of these to be true.

Uh, nobody said anything about that being an inclusion for characters. I would have said Guile and Akuma would be in as well based on the picture.

I have no doubt those two would be included in the roster, just as DLC in the near future of SFV's release.

We don't even know if the Siliconera rumor is even true, and you seem to forget that there's an extra character. Which I believe belongs to Juri, making that 16 character roster.

That "feature" was announced in one of their blog posts as a perverted fan service, it's not like they were trying to sneak one past the moral police.

Now that's a fun mentality to have when you're making a game with over 30 characters, with the most expensive sprites in a fighting game(save for 3rd strike maybe) while struggling financially.

I'd mostly want the rumors of Alex/Karin to be true. I will say that I have more hope of Alex getting in, especially with the Illuminati being involved. I'm positive that he'll get in.

Oh right! That worked well too. Apologies. I never had a Wii. What was up with that exclusivity anyways? Totally killed the potential audience.

My guess is that the Wii was popular at the time and Tatsunoko wanted it on the most popular/kid oriented system back then.

In that specific case I meant include the male Art of Fighting characters since their clothes also ripped in the original game.

Though generally I would still say that excluding one gender from any sort of fansevice in a game that features both in central roles is not a good practice. I have nothing against fansevice obviously, just want to see it be balanced.

I really want Capcom to incorporate Rival Schools characters into Street Fighter. It worked so well the one time they did it.

I saw that. I'd be excited, but I haven't gotten to try the Mega Man Board Game yet, so I don't know for sure. I mean, the Mega Man one's about going around a map and beating Robot Masters on some mini-maps before a final fight with Wily. Maybe this'll be the same thing, except you don't get a power after each boss you fight? It'd be cool if the games were compatible in some way...

I still think that'd be nice. Honestly, though, I kinda just want them to bite the bullet and make Street Fighter, Final Fight, Rival Schools, Darkstalkers, Red Earth, and Captain Commando all part of the same universe at different times, in different places, and from different perspectives. Maybe they can tease that by putting in a character from Rival Schools and/or DarkstalkerS, and put nods to each in the story (With Red Earth having been a part of the universe's past, of course).

Oh right! That worked well too. Apologies, I never had a Wii. What was up with that exclusivity anyways? Totally killed the potential audience.

Hey, as a Wii owner, that was an exclusive fighting game that didn't feel half-baked. I was happy with it.

I'm actually very familiar with their history and know about this. It doesn't excuse it, why bring it back now? Blue Mary completely loses her shirt when she's knocked into water in Real Bout Fatal Fury, but I can't imagine them every trying to pull that again. It's not a big deal, but it goes against the rest of how they treat that character and comes off as a cheap attempt to please certain audiences.

I think in general fan service should be toned down because it looks silly at this point (plus the obvious one-sidedness of it in general).

But anyway anyone know when the next character reveal is coming? I wish Capcom would be explicit for when they would reveal characters, it seems with SF5 they have been keeping most things under raps.. Hoping for something at gamescom which is this week right?

I still need to really play TvC. It just never was feasible without having sticks for the console myself.

So what you're saying is we need an announcement of when they're going to make an announcement? ;D
Agreed though... the wait without a clear date is making me fidget :p

Gamescom runs from the 6th to the 9th.

I get what you mean now, it would've been cool if it happened to the other Aof characters too.

Aw yiss, people like Juri all of a sudden even though she's rarely played in tournaments lol. Hopefully with EVO, she's been put on the map for more players to play her.

Why would this confirm anything? Because she's there at all?

Advertisement/Comic/Toy deals are done wayyyyyy in advance and to get licensing, they have to talk to Capcom or Capcom comes to them and its Capcom that decides which characters are going to be in it. Since Juri is there, its more than likely she will be involved in the game cause it would be bad marketing to include her and not another character in the game who can get more spotlight on SFV and not on the previous title, SFIV. With that in mind, Juri should be in SFV if they are marketing her to be a part of this playset. If not, I don't know what Capcom's team is thinking about.

If Juri's in, that also means Guile, Akuma, Alex and Oro are in too. This line of reasoning inevitably makes you discount the Siliconera rumours because there is simply not enough space in the cast for all of these to be true.
