One of my favourite developers on one of my favourite series.

I'm really curious to see if this is a direct sequel to Halo Wars 1 or if they'll just choose a different set of ships to follow during the Human-Covenant war.

Halo wars was built for people who aren't hardcore into RTS games. They must keep that philosophy going forward.

I put way too many hours into that game and loved it because of its simplicity.

If I can't play it effectively with a controller I won't be buying it unfortunately.

It's fine to show trepidation for controller based RTS games
That's exactly where I am after this announcement.

In fact, I'll go so far as to say that RTS is a genre which simply can't be done particularly well on dual-analog controllers.

Of course, it doesn't help my (lack of) excitement that I don't really care for the Halo franchise at all. That leaves just CA, who are great, but not enough to get hyped for the game.

Given that it certainly looks like Red Team wearing their OG Spartan armor in the teaser, I'm assuming the former.

Super excited for this. Halo Wars was an underrated gem and I can't wait for 2.

That said, genuinely curious as to what went on between Microsoft and Sega to get Creative Assembly on board with the game, though. Hopefully, that'll be explained in the next few days.

This game will be made for Controllers and if that don't cut it with y'alls

I'll let you guys in on a little secret: Forge's Grizzlies are no better than the Power Turret upgrade that comes before it.

I look forward to this. Halo Wars WITH Creative Assembly? Hope it doesn't disappoint.

Now I imagine the SPARTANs from HW1 being recovered and being the protagonists again. That or its just SPARTAN-IVs.

Yep. I will be quite surprised if the PC version will have solid mouse and keyboard control scheme. Really, really surprised. Hype levels at minimum.

Why? It's Creative Assembly, they know how to make a RTS. Creating two UIs, 1 for controllers, 1 for keyboard and mouse seems like something they'll put a lot of effort into since it was announced from the start as an Xbox One/Windows 10 game.

Now had this been announced as Xbox One only and then later brought to PC, I could see where there may be issues.

Well, if a person was to buy this for $60 they deserve, at a bare minimum, a worthwhile control scheme. CA have had a fuck ton of experience with PC RTS interfaces so I'd expect it to be fantastic.

So since windows 10 launched they are releasing some games on it because they are pretending they care about us? or is this going to be a new trend?

Bonnie Ross said all Halo games will have a beta after Master Chief Collection's launch state. I wonder if Halo Wars 2 beta will be included with Halo 5, seems likely.

The entire Microsoft company is transitioning to a singular-platform, interconnecting strategy across devices and away from Balmers old islands of devices and hardware strategy. As long as that strategy exists there'll be pressure from the higher ups to bring Windows and Xbox gaming closer.

lol

a bit late on that secret

So...

I'm confused. Would you rather not be getting the game?

Microsoft supports PC = they're just pretending. go away!
Microsoft doesn't support PC = they never cared!

also, sorry to be the bearer of bad news shadowhunter89, no company gives a shit about you, me or anyone else.

So a AAA instalment of their biggest franchise gets announced as being released on the PC, and you consider that to be a token gesture? Ok then.

Played online for around 600 hours. LOVED IT. RIP Ensemble.

So shocked and surprised at the sequel announcement, will get it on PC next year :)

Douglas is mentioned in the trailer, he was a Spartan 2 on board the Spirit of Fire... so I guess we will have more adventures with the same crew of SoF :)

Unless you factor in the added stars it gives you. 14 star grizzlies were unbeatable. A single 14 star grizz + spartan could take down a scarab.

Great News! Looking forward to seeing more of it.

Only thing that is a slight concern for me is that I often find Creative Assembly's RTS games a bit daunting but I totally could manage Halo Wars and found it accessible.

I hope they don't over complicate the game (not that they will or the developer is bad or anything).

But could it take down a leveled-up scarab with an entire engineer factory behind it? I'm just glad this time the game will actually receive post-launch support and balancing. And hopefully not fragment the community with DLC like they learned not to do with Halo 5.

the last CA console rts was really shit so not 100% sold on this one yet

and since the main team is doing TW:Warhammer it's possible this again is one of their other studios on it

I hadn't thought of this. I'm definitely more interested in a Halo Wars 2 beta than I am Halo 5, though.

What RTS games are "bloated too heavily to accommodate mouse and keyboard"?

There will absolutely be some compromises to accommodate a dual analogue stick controllers, just as the original Halo Wars did compared to plenty of other RTS games - but that isn't necessarily a terrible thing if it works well with what the game wants to accomplish on a console with a controller. However, Halo Wars was not something I would call stellar because of this. In the end, this is a game that is going to have to cater to both Console and PC users and thus has to accommodate both player-bases and previous fans. Like I said, I'm interesting in seeing how it's handled, particularly on PC which is where I tend to play my games.

First, Halo Wars had post launch balancing at launch. They nerfed warthog rushes, which were completely broken, as well as a few other tweaks. Where they left it, it was pretty balanced. You could win with any of the 6 heros in Halo Wars if you played your cards right.

Second, ff I recall, a 14 star Grizzlie with spartan pilot could take out a no star scarab easily, barely beat a one star, but would lose to a two or three star scarab.

I once had a 3v3 go wrong. My team-mates left, leaving me alone vs 3.

I was Arby.

I built a Scarab.

Said Scarab, through careful management and the enemy's failings, reached star 3. It could destroy a base in 5 seconds flat. I roamed around the map, destroying each base I came to. They rebuilt in my wake, wiped out my bases, I rebuilt in their wake.

It was absolutely glorious. I eventually lost, but not before getting more points than their team combined, several times over.

Nice. I'll need another good RTS after Legacy of the Void. Grey Goo didn't do it for me.

I'm essentially in the same position as Durante: I'm not a Halo guy, but the Creative Assembly name carries a lot of weight in my book and I hope they'll provide a separate mouse & keyboard UI for the game. I can't imagine why they wouldn't, though. They certainly know what they are doing when it comes to PC RTSes.
