Destiny receives a new Leveling System with The Taken King release. Step aside RNG.

It would equal out to the same price really, so up to you if you want the physical copy or not.

yes, you need all the dlc in order to play the new expansion.

I wasn't talking about the new expansion. The new level 40 level cap, and the loot rework, is that DLC required or not? Cuz last I played I was level 20 with light level 30 gear, pretty much ran out of stuff to do without buying DLC.

Level cap increases and RNG tweaks have always come as free game updates in the past so I imagine the same goes here.

This would all be well and good if they weren't making our entire Year One experience a huge waste of time.

IB gear? Raid gear? Vision of Confluence? Felwinter's Lie? Osiris gear? POE gear?

All effectively nerfed. No reason to play at all for the next couple of months, at least.

I agree.. but at least we get the Year One emblem, lol.

I think they screwed up by bringing this news 1,5 months before release. With these changes there is litteraly no reason for me to play at all until TTK comes out.

I put 40 hours into the Alpha and Beta but decided against buying it because of the randomness of loot. I hope this means it's changing.

This and the weapon balancing that's coming all sound great about moving the game away from being as gear-gated (wrongly, you don't need a Gjallarhorn really) as it feels now.

My issue is that TTK is centred around the fucking Hive again.

I'm sick of the Hive after grinding out the mediocre Dark Below.

Heads up to the OP - to post this link into the OT

RECENT in depth analysis by the guys at Planet Destiny of GI's TTK Trailer.

Includes: legendary/exotic armor, more details about maps weapons and loadouts from from recent Bungie footage of the Dreadnaught, too lazy to list it all...

The only content in the game that you absolutely have to have other people with you is the raids (of which there are 2, soon to be 3).

The entire rest of the game can be played solo, but still requires an online connection.

To be clear though: playing Destiny solos is pretty crap. It really only shines as a co-op experience.

The one with matchmaking where you can't get either armor cores or weapon cores or etheric light. Because of course thats how it would be.

True, etheric light is a pain to get solo. Its Iron Banner or soloing the nightfall and hoping mostly.

You can do it just by running 28 PoE though - once you level up your House of Judgement rank you get a package every week from Variks, which *can* contain etheric light. Takes an age to rank up just from matchmade PoE though and you're still at the mercy of the RNG.

Its funny how much this game is intended to be played in a Fireteam, but lacks the tools for finding or forming one.

This makes me want to get back into it, I stopped playing after hitting 21 on my main it seemed like way to much work to level up.

The one big thing I'm hoping for this expansion and it's something I wanted since Destiny was first announced.

An actual engaging campaign, one that I can bring friends along and feel like we got through it together and had an experience together working it out. Something big.

We got that to some extent with the raids but apart from that the story missions just weren't engaging, who really plays the story missions for fun? I know I only play them for xp bonuses when levelling gear.

It sounds like they're heading in the right direction with the Dreadnought and new levelling system but I really do want it to feel like when I'm done, me and my mates got through a grand quest together. Not just grinding out missions to get them out of the way. I somehow think that's going to be too much to ask.

This might actually bring me back after barely touching the first DLC and not even playing the 2nd. Now all this thing needs now is a meaningful story behind it and it'd be a legitimately good game all around.

I think Destiny has a meaningful story, Bungie just decided (or were forced by Activision) to grab a storytelling-machete and cut swathes of it away until all your left with is the dusty, spare and broken bones of one. The narrative is just a sad little heap of carbon at this point.

If you read all the online 'story cards', you can tell at some point it was a full-bodied, upright, ambulatory narrative machine.

You really feel the gut-punch of a missed opportunity when you imagine what Destiny would be like if they had the quest structure of WoW or some such. Like if there were NPCs throughout Destiny's gameplay levels (hiding in the many interiors each world features) that gave you quests and adventures... It would just be so much more compelling. And that would be so easy to do.

So, they removed a system that limited grinding for more grinding? I actually liked getting an armor core and getting 42 Light gear right away. It made getting the rest of my character up to lvl 34 pretty damn easy.

Now I'm stuck doing bounties and crucible I guess.

Wait, wait...

The Light system limited grinding?

The system that compelled you to play daily, doing minor variations of the same strikes and bounties for weeks on end to get better gear and get your level up... "limited grinding"?

Big spoiler for you:
with levelling not tied to grinding you'll probably be able to go from level 1 to 40 in a couple of weeks. That is so much less grinding it's not even funny. It took me a couple of weeks to go from 20 to 23, and never again

Well, you can still level up your exotics and collect 200 Vanguard and Crucible Marks (if you don't have already, of course). That's what I'm going to do at least.

Still waiting for this or Destiny 2 to make the jump to PC. I keep liking all the changes I hear them make, and it seems like they've come a long way from launch so I'm glad I skipped that whole phase of the game's release. Just hope that the move from consoles doesn't end up being a total pipe dream.

Well that alone will push me back into the game. Any idea when they changed that? Sucks that there's still no MM but if I can reach max level by myself that's all I really care about.

Either way it makes me a lot more excited for Destiny 2.
No idea when they changed it as I started playing the game a month or so ago. I hit 34 without raiding or anything but I've done everything that the game have to offer now, Crotas End raid on hard is pretty fun and you should give it a go.
If you're on the PS4 send me a PM and I could give you a hand :)

What will happen to level 34 players ? They will stay at that level ?

If Light now stops providing players with increased level then current level 34 players will drop back to level 20 as it's (current) max level before Light gear.

When looking at map design (especially in PvP) this game will be disaster on PC. KB/M controls in these maps would make this ultimate twitch shooter because of small (even tiny) maps with a lots of tight turns.

Bungie doing this makes the previous DLC sound obsolete. Is there any reason as to why anyone who only played the Vanilla game should buy the DLC when you know The Taken King is coming up?

I'm leveling an alt now, I'm at 33 and stopped caring about getting to 34 as soon as I read these news.

You would still want the exclusive items that the DLC vendors sell you. I am still grinding toward Crota rank 4 to get that sweet disco pants shader.

Since light will not be a thing anymore... I also wonder... WIll we all just get downleveled to 20 and take it from there?
Interesting, but you still level up in theory even with light levels being 34, but instead of rank you get motes.
But giving everyone who played max rank and no gear will be a issue in itself.

Do I really want/need these? Sounds like there will be plenty of new stuff with The Taken King DLC.
Eh, depends on how much you care about bling like that.

I've recently gotten back into Destiny because two of my local friends picked it up. It's a blast to play with proper voice chat and coordinated team work. The daily and weekly bounties are the meat of the game for me currently. The odd raid here and there too.

I am a little out of the loop here.

I only have Destiny as the vanilla and neither of the DLC's. If I want to get back into this, do I also need to buy the previous two DLC's or does it come in another package for 60 bucks with all 3 DLC's in it?

Alright, I might buy it after finishing Until Dawn & The Phantom Pain.

Just to be clear, The Taken King has all the content from the original game plus all the expansions already released, right?

Man this DLC is looking good.

Do we know the amount of NEW legendaries that will be available in the Taken King?

Its 12 Exotic weapons and 6 exotic armor per class.

They said that Taken King will add more new weapons than Vanilla Destiny had on release.
