I think a few choice announcements will help push console sales in Japan, but at the top of the list would have to be Monster Hunter on PS4.

Most Japanese big sellers have been announced for PS4 already (Hot Shots Golf, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest). The only big Japanese game that does well in Japan that hasn't been announced yet that I can think of is Resident Evil 7. Maybe Gran Turismo if you consider 500k a big seller.

EDIT: I'm talking about traditional console games, Monster Hunter isn't coming to PS4 unless it's a late port.

Predictions, not pointing out the obvious trailers like "omg Persona 5":

Ninja Gaiden 4 (teased since a long time, thinks it's too soon for DOAX3, apart maybe an extremely short CGI teaser)
Gravity Rush in some form.
Some weird unexpected old game comeback on 3DS (like Popolocrois and 7th Dragon)
Etrian Odyssey V
Some weird "it's under consideration" NX game confirmations (but no it's wrong we swear)
Deep Down, Let It Die, and other F2P console games
Kancolle Vita!
Some Yokai Watch mindblowing crossover
Lol remasters

Hoping for, even if I'm 95% sure it won't happen:

Virtua Fighter 6
Some SMT V hints
From Software unexpected announcement (good or bad, not counting BB expansion and DaS3)
Ace Combat is back baby!
Infinity on PS4 :^)
Nintendo does a Direct before TGS

Truth bombs:

No Resident Evil 7
No Soul Calibur 6
If there's a Monster Hunter on PS4 announced, it won't be there, and it'll be Frontier 2
People disappointed by Project Setsuna
Platinum already works on a lot of games, no MGR2
Dragon Quest XI out in Japan before KH3 and FFXV

I don't think people really understand Monster Hunter when they keep saying it can push home console sales.

Man, It'd be the best TGS ever if they just shared some new info/media (and may a release date?) on these beats:

Sadly, every thread will probably be like this until next gen :/

Interested in why you feel this way?

I feel that it's a bit too overhyped here when it's still extremely vague. At this point of the production, and especially nowadays, it'll be really easy for some groups of people to be disappointed: by graphics, characters, scope, etc.
Didn't want to mean in my statement some other people won't be even happier than before though!

Oh, gotcha. If it's a turn based FF-esque JRPG I'll be thrilled!

Stuff I really want to hear more about and feel we might:

FF XV (just want release date now and I'm good)
DQ 11
TLG
Level 5 RPG (would be all in for NNK sequel or game in similar style)
Gravity Rush
FF XII HD (it's time, right?)
Persona 5 (need release date, suspicious it's been bumped)
World of Final Fantasy

Stuff I want to hear more on and doubt we will:

Nier 2 (I think it's too early still)
Project Setsuna (also too early)
Big Sony RPG (just feel they'll wait a bit longer and see how things shake out w/ XV and DQ in Japan before tipping their hand)
FF7R (they said winter and I doubt they'll show more until the XV marketing ship is righted)
New Mana title (suspect if really a thing it's going to be another year before we hear about it)

Almost certainly not going to happen, despite my dutiful obeisance to the JRPG gods:

Console sequel to FF Tactics (directed by Ito w/ Matsuno scenario) :-(
Spiritual succesor to Okami from Kamiya :-( :-(
Suikoden VI :-( :-( :-(

If people's hype are indeed the same as what they've said in the reveal thread, about wanting this to be a smaller project a la BD and old JRPGs (maybe even with pre-rendered backgrounds), I don't think people will really be disappointed.

But considering how some people are also afraid this game "might be cross-gen", then there will definitely be those disappointed...

I personally want to see an original JRPG from Sony like Vernedus teased a while ago.

In reality though I want to see DQ11, FFXV, and KH3 footage. FF7R will probably be at PSX or Jump Festa.

I can't see it going anywhere else. Kind of forgot this game was announced. Been a good nine months.

These days, it could very well end up in the NX or going mobile, since that's developers new money cow. But I trust Atlus to handle this right and on the right platform, so yeah, as you said, it has been nine months and no news at all about that game, so they're bound to come really soon.

With there having been no platform announcement, I wonder if the NX is a likely possibility, as well.

I don't know if TGS would be the place for new EOV stuff, though. I feel like Atlus would probably opt for it to be completely about Persona 5, as well as their two Vanillaware projects.

Then again, this is like the cycle they had with Persona 5 from teaser in November 2013 to (pre-)TGS reveal in September 2014, so it's possible.

Sega Sammy emphasizes in their financial reports that Atlus is pretty much there for the dedicated console games, so I don't think you'll be seeing major games like that from Atlus go mobile anytime soon.

It's vague, but there's really only one way to take comments like this

And combine that with what Square's new president said

“With that in mind, and all of the collective fans, there’s a sense of mass, which loses the image of a niche market,” continues Matsuda. “For the new games we’ll be developing from this point on, while this may sound a bit extreme, we’ve been talking about making them as heavy JRPGs. I believe that way, we can better focus on our target, which will also bring better results.”

http://www.siliconera.com/2014/03/31/bravely-defaults-success-west-making-square-enix-rethink-jrpgs/

It's basically going to be a love letter to those that grew up playing JRPG's. Whether it's good remains to be seen, but I don't think it's surprising that people are excited about the idea of an old-school Square developed JRPG.

I wonder how SCEJ can pack every announced games into the conf (Too many games to show). And there will be a lot of unnanounced games too (Level 5, Vanillaware,...)
I'm so hyped.

Key announcements will be made during the Sony conference which will likely be a pre-show (TGS starts on the 17th, the conference might happen as soon as the first week of September), then the other companies will do their own announcements.

We live in a world where games such as Persona 5, Final Fantasy XV, Nier, The Last Guardian, and Dragon Quest XI are basically locked in for TGS. That's really cool.

Ace Combat 7 baby!
Razgriz is back, and we don't dance with Angels! Greatness Awaits.

I wish :( . I'd be happy if they finally announced that HD collection too.

EO and Persona are radically different games in different genres, I don't think it'd be a problem to have both at TGS (unlike Persona and some SMT spinoff fof example).

Does anyone know what's Dimps is doing now after having released Xenoverse? Are they working on SFV?

Xenoverse 2?

Are we seeing more of DQ at TGS? I would've thought it was too soon. I mean, the reveal was barely a few weeks ago--what's changed between then and now that they need to show us?
