This is the first time in a long while I've found myself randomly wanting to go check out a few stores to see if any of them have broken the street date on this game.
At this point though won't most major retailers have a system in place that tells the cashier "Hey, don't sell this to anyone"?

More impressions from my friend:
* The atmosphere is truly great. It's one of the most atmospheric games he's played in a long time.
* The game will make you jump....a lot!
* The soundtrack is really solid. It sets the mood wonderfully.
* The story is deeper than it looks.
* Choices actually matter. The game does it miles better than Beyond.
* They nailed the balance between cheesiness and seriousness almost perfectly.
* I asked him for a quick score and he told me a solid 9/10.

Hyperbole and hype tend to run deep in prerelease threads like these as the people giving the impressions are often a little too close to the game they're talking about.
Positive early impressions are certainly a good thing, but as someone mentioned, it's rare to see any blunt negitive impressions in hype threads.
Fingers crossed though, fingers crossed. It's gonna be interesting when the embargo lifts.

It's good to hear the positive impressions, especially contrasting this to what didn't work with The Order.

Dammit, the hype bug definitely just bit me after reading some of these impressions. I loved Heavy Rain, flaws and all, so if this meets or surpasses that game, I'm going to be in for a really good time with this game. The small clips I've seen piqued my interest.

Definitely cautious after those Order 1886 pre-release threads with some posters saying the game was amazing. But I do appreciate the impressions and am getting a good feeling with this game.

I was going to wait off on this game but now I'm really looking forward to Tuesday when people get their hands on the game. I really enjoyed the first half of Indigo Prophecy and games like this live and die by the story for me.
If the story and script hold up like some of the impressions indicate, I'll definitely have to pick this up.

Oh, The Order. Such a disappointment. Not a bad game, but an okay one.
The Order had a ton of bad press just prior to release (mainly related to the short length).

They're talking about impressions on GAF here which were mostly quite positive and left out a lot of the main problems
Oh yeah I'm not saying it's the same case at all. But I do take early forum posts with a grain of salt just to be safe.
I just took a look at the old impression thread for the Order. Lots of "9/10" and "Big new franchise for Sony" being thrown around. Really hope these early impressions are spot on.
Right. That game was a strange case when it came to impressions.
Why does that matter?
People have different taste,I am not sure what is going on right now.

I think The Order: 1886's initial impressions were somewhat skewed by its undeniable eye candy. Allowed people to turn a blind eye to all of the glaring flaws that persisted elsewhere.

It's always best to suss out details from people that are harder to "lie" about. Things like how a game plays in general rather than "is it good or not".
For instance, The Order threads were packed with impressions of the game being too heavy on the story and containing walking sections. Couple that with the shortness of the game and lack of reasons to return, I ended up buying it for my girlfriend to play and barely ever touching it (suited her needs just fine, and I just watched).
Here, it seems like the writing is nailed down well, the framerate is good, and the characters hammy and believable. My only other hang up is how varied it gets between each session. I'm not opposed to returning to the game after some time, even if the first few hours were similar, but I'd like to know how big these changes are. That's really my only personal hang up.
So, in essence, make up a checklist and try to get them details filled out.

I mean if the total number for the entire game is under 20, then maybe I'm a go but I've seen like almost 10 from all the gameplay already.
So torn lol.
I mean I don't like being startled but it's not like a serious condition or anything.
People's early impressions, especially ones before anyone else has a chance to get to a game, are generally skewed to be positive.
Just saying, before people go claiming GOTY based on the few impressions we have, keep expectations in check and don't go off the rails with hype. Better for everyone that way.
That said I'm pretty excited for the game and hope it surprises a lot of people next week.
I like this but I'll make sure the header area can accommodate such long title.

Can I ask what site you work for? Pardon my ignorance.
That's not really my recollection of it, and I actually compiled many of the early impressions in those threads. Were many or most positive? Probably. But I believe only one person early on actually gave it a 9/10 score, everyone else fell under to varying degrees.
Overall things were a cross between mixed and mostly positive, which I think is fair. I mostly enjoyed the game myself. Actually completed it twice in a row.

Cinematic games I feel are often more likely to be met with mixed critical reception, just by virtue of their genre and style of gameplay, which tend to contain less of what some would deem as traditional gameplay, and also less immediately exciting or gratifying design and pacing. Hell, some people (wrongly) reject the gameplay in these types of games as being gameplay at all.
I agree with this title! Will pick it game up!

It does like jump scares.
They didn't really get to me, outside of maybe one or two, though jump scares usually do.
