Fear the Walking Dead - Season One - Sundays on AMC

Pretty cool. Have to let the show develop first, though. If it is a slow burner, I think it could be done quite well. Some stupid scenes, for sure, but it has potential.

Not sure how I feel about it. Decent will watch next one.

"Watch this. This is the new real. Killshot bitch."

Laughing out loud haha

And Tobias with that stare on the bus. I can't handle this show haha.

Tobias. LOL at that staredown.

Regarding the infection/turning

Everyone's infected. Being bitten doesn't turn you, it just gives you an incredibly awful infection due to how disgusting zombies' mouths are, you die, then come back

True, although what I meant is that I want them to find some kind of way of explaining how Calvin got infected in the first place. I don't mean a full on explanation for the virus, I just want them to commit to an explanation of how it spreads
without zombie bites
. In The Walking Dead I pretty much assumed that
everyone was already infected because of the whole "touching zombies on a daily basis/constantly getting drenched in their blood juices" thing. But if that's not the case and the whole country is already infected somehow, then I dunno, that just seems really ridiculous to me.

Hmm shit, I just reread that spoiler and it makes sense, and now that I think about it explaining how the virus spreads would probably get into "revealing the mystery behind it" territory.

The latter is one is the case.

I know right?! My god that teen dialogue is not real haha. At least I hope it's not. That shit was ridiculous I couldn't take it seriously until the last 10 minutes.

Wtf? umm, How old are you guys? Do you read facebook and tweets like at all? Like a comment section or anything related to teens? lol

Just finished the pilot. It was ok.

It definitely shows promise and has a lot a room to grow, but seriously the female characters are pretty awful. The daughter is super one-dimensional and doesn't get any screen time and the mother's performance was pretty weak. Not only that but from the moment the step-dad told her about the bloody church and that her son may not have been totally crazy, her response was totally ridiculous and was the exact moment where I was like "Well there goes a solid pilot."

Also, there were a few too many loose threads, like where that zombie girl in the intro went and why nobody saw her since we never see her again and why the cops didn't investigate the church AT ALL. Even after step-daddy saw disgusting puddles of blood with tiny guts and could have reported that disgusting ass nonsense. Like that wasn't even a clean puddle of blood.

Shit was chunky as fuck.

I'm really wondering if Nick, Travis, and Madison will take Calvin's gun. They probably don't realize how helpful it could be pretty soon, but it would be a shame to let it go to waste. These people really don't have much to defend themselves with, especially compared to how the group in the main show started out.

If we're to assume that some of the authority centers are aware of the dead people problem, then it would have been really easy to have the parents call the cops about the church and just have it go nowhere. The cops would have been too busy to check into it, but we wouldn't have had this weird logic gap. Honestly, it didn't bother me but it has been coming up a lot.

The pilot was a little rough but I liked it. I hate the junkie son plot though, and would have preferred not to have to deal with the family drama for the sake of drama additions. It's like the writers thought of the most drama filled cliches they could and made a zombie show around it.

I feel like the acting will get less stiff as the episodes continue. It's hard to compare all of these characters to TWD pilot that only really had 3 actors for the most part, and a lot of it was just Rick looking on in disbelief. Every one of these actors in FTWD is fantastic in other things so I can only assume it will gel soon.

I also like the fact that it brought back the creepy feelings that The Walking Dead has been lacking. There is something scary about one zombie in this show and I love that. I still think the creepiest scene in the Walking Dead is in season 2, when Rick and Shane are driving back to the farm (with Randall) and the camera pans to the lone walker walking through the field in a suit jacket. I think that's what they were trying with the Asian guy in the park but it sort of missed the mark.

A few bumps, but I liked it. I enjoy the slower pace. My worry is that by season 2 or 3 it'll be a non-stop action fest like the main show became, when to me, the character drama, fear and slow build are what matters.

Terrible

Slow, stupid, boring

I think they make it like that on purpose, so the viewers can be on their phones the whole time

Wasn't a too bad of a start. Will be fun to see it all unfold and everything go into chaos.

I really hope though that they don't try to explain what caused the outbreak. I like it being that we have to sort of guess what might have started it all.

As far as the characters go, we the viewers know more than they do so of course they are going to do stupid things sometimes.

Meh....I think it will get better. I just cant get over how fucking worry free and clueless they all seem. Their facial expression doesn't seem to match the severity of whats going on. This one in particular...
X16MTvX.jpg

She might as well be Zombie. She is so devoid of emotion. She saw a man get run over, get up, get run over again and she had the same fucking look on her face from time they came on the scene until the incident with the son.

The daughter is going to get a lot of hate. I can already see it. She is just too perfect and therefore annoying for many. The whole "I am a 20-something actress playing a teen that is too cool to go to or care about class, too cool for authority figures like teachers and my mom, am gorgeous, and also brilliant because I am going to Berkley" is a bit much.

Well, I think I get what they were going for. They wanted this naive teenager who was making plans to change her life in the midst of the downbeat/depressing atmosphere, but the girl can't really act at all and her scenes were near-laughable. I can't tell whether her complimenting her boyfriend's shitty drawing is meant to be ironic (given the stereotype of being vain in L.A.) or genuinely serious.

Her and the girls making fun of that Youtube video (with its odd pacing - the teacher just waits until they've finished the video and talked a bit about it) was terrible.

The best parts of the episode were the shots of the increasingly-empty streets, coupled with Dickens' character looking at the paranoid kid sitting on the bus with those blissfully-unaware teens.
But he apparently shows up next week and becomes part of the group, so that's a plus.

Thanks Weapxn for the link.

I'm loving the slow pace and them taking the time to show how society fell.

Lol @ the squeaky clean black kid being a murdering drug dealer. It felt stereotypical, he's black so you know he's doing something shady. Right....

I like Nick the addict. It would have been halarious if they dedicated this episode to only him seeing all this crazy shit gong on and everyone saying he's insane until they start getting their faces eaten off. I hope that his character is one of a fuck up but not one that gets people eaten one that accidently saves people asses.

That kid with the knife and pimples better fucking make it! He knew the deal and saw what was going to go down before most other people had an inkling of a clue.

Daughter has potantial but right now she's bleh.

The mother was eh.

I forgot the father's real name but I did like some of his other work on shit I can't remember. I hope he becomes more like Joel (TLOU) instead of Rick.

Hope the boyfriend made it and he's not secretly a drug dealer or pimp.

I get the feeling people here are always trying to over-analyse these shows, when I'm watching I turn my brain off for the most part and just enjoy it. I don't think about how this or that is an unrealistic reaction, or how the acting isn't great I just sit back and enjoy the show.

Now that's not to say some people don't have viable complaints like finding the characters annoying or the pacing too slow because of course those are legitimate complaints do but for me I enjoyed the characters and pace of the story and didn't think too much about anything else. I really enjoyed this episode and look forward to the rest of the season.

I don't think people are really over-analyzing anything here so far. It's just that some of this silliness just jumps out to us and seems jarring (i.e. The cellphone scene).

I hated the episode. Slow, grating characters, and cliche after cliche. That being said I'll keep watching and hope it gets better but wow so bad.

It's like you watched a different show entirely.

Yeah, Johnny Depp guy was the only one that reacted believably in that scene.

The fact that one person was freaking out was enough. Not everyone reacts the same way to a shocking event, especially when it's something your mind might not be able to process. Not everyone will break down into fits of screaming.

Just watched the episode, and that comment slayed me. Three guys dead (or implied) in the first episode alone, lol!

I thought it was a solid pilot overall.

Pros:

- That mounting sense of uncertainty and desperation once you start hearing the helicopters and sirens become more and more noticeable in the background mix.
- The episode came off as a sort of bittersweet ending before society starts to crumble. I could have watched this and nothing else from the series and been satisfied because of its quasi-prequel status. The cinematography was really, really good.
- Cliff Curtis' and Kim Dickens' acting is quite good (lame ending reaction aside).
- It does play to the L.A. mentality of ignoring things until they hit you in the face.
- The character slowly coming to grips with what's happening was very interesting.

Cons:

- Something about the squeaky-clean teen who turns out to be the amoral drug dealer was hilarious to me. One minute he's scrubbing his car and the next he's some kind of elusive kingpin who offs the customers that speak out of turn.
- The daughter's acting was crap. Maybe she'll get better in time.
- That final reaction was hilariously bad. "What the hell is going on?" "I dunno."

Overall, I'm quite impressed. Will definitely keep watching.

This is pretty much where I'm at after one episode. It hasn't quite pulled me into the world like the original show did but there is promise. Hoping the eventual societal collapse will deliver. That's always been one of my favorite sequences in zombie flicks.

Yeah, this. Don't think I've seen her in anything else, but not a fan of her acting after the premiere.

Just finished watching and it's refreshing compared to the original series. I couldn't unsee Nick as a prequel to pineapple express though, don't know if it's been brought up before. lol

I still can't get over how stupid the title is.

They went for the lowest common denominator with that title. It's like they absolutely wanted to make sure that everyone, everyone would know that it's a spin-off of TWD.

Didn't want to risk any small % of people not tuning in. Somewhat cynical choice of title.

They didn't need to be freaking out. That they were in a state of disbelief was fine, but I didn't buy it.

And it was the most-watched series premiere ever, so it was probably the right choice.

What an odd thing to complain about. There's absolutely nothing wrong with using The Walking Dead in the title, in fact not doing so would be stupid.

Yes! Agreed 100%. Easily the creepiest scene of the entire series.

Well, the episode summaries for the rest of the season spoil a lot of things.

Episode 2 has Travis going to find/rescue his ex-wife and son, while the preview clip showed Madison and Tobias collecting supplies from the school and discovering the undead Marty. It apparently ends with a riot in Los Angeles. Episode 3 has the family/families holing up with the Salazer family. Episode 4 apparently has the neighbourhood coming under martial law as the National Guard moves in. Episode 5 apparently has them fleeing from the neighbourhood before the N.G. presumably napalms everyone in an attempt to contain it.

Well they're not going to pick a title that would intentionally stunt the show's viewership. At least they didn't call it Walking Dead: _______.

I have no problem at all with the title. It could have been a lot worse. Walking Dead: Subtitle would have been worse I think as well.

so, rick is in a coma right now, right? he definitely didn't just get into a coma, but perhaps he's been in the hospital for a while now?
