Youtube Gaming set to launch... TOMORROW !

Twitch chat is easily moderated with Sub only chat mode, r9k, bots. Twitch Chat is just an IRC, so it's easy to run a great bot in it. Sub-only mode will only work if there are subs.

I know. My point is that it's silly to think that everyone cares so much about chat that it will make or break the service.

We can hope. I don't want to have my email box look like this a few times a week anymore:

866137e8b7c4297c1daa864a362d4b49.png

^Literally my email box from this morning, and I could pull various examples of this from various days this last month. Having to go through the process of counter-claiming each one is super tedious.

The worst part is when videos that I already got the claim released gets re-claimed and I dispute and the company let's it go again. That's been happening, along with complete BS claims recently along with legitimate ones, and some companies are mass releasing copyright claims to their games, but others are so slooooow about it.
The quick and dirty way I try to avoid content ID like that due to game music is to constantly talk over it. Unfortunately it doesn't always work but that's the only way I know. If there is lyrics in a music, I immediately start talking over it. Weird thing is that you have game developers who said they did try to get the music labels to remove some songs, but it will take time for the publishers to act on it. Game developers know that being able to monetize those videos can only help streamers stream their games. I don't know why more music publishers don't do more profit sharing. Obviously they made the song and I'd like them to get paid, but streamers should get paid to for providing publicity and marketing. Anyways, just my thoughts. Will have to see if YouTube can loosen up some of this stuff if they want to compete with Twitch.

Having good community and support tools can make a streaming or video service even better, yes.
If it were just a direct stream with no chat, Twitch wouldn't be where it is now. I guarantee you.

With no new monetization options, sponsor content restrictions, no chat API and live content ID takedowns etc don't expect to see any major streamers switching in the near future.

If the contentID enforcement is as intrusive as it sounds, this is going nowhere fast. It's one thing to get a VoD muted as you can just save a raw file and edit the matched song out, but having your entire stream shut down? No one wants to deal with that. The large streamers will stay on Twitch where matched content doesn't completely shut down their stream, and small streamers will just get annoyed and migrate elsewhere.

Does that new counter claim that asks if it's game music actually do anything? I've been uploading videos since 2005 and I have hundreds of them.

Nothing is worse than twitch chat

Little moderation tools so that's why you might see people go with 2 extreme options. Ignoring it and allow it to grow worse over time, or just disable chat altogether so no one can ever comment on your videos ever.

It's something I want them to improve a great deal. Those who had to move from Blip to YouTube after their closure are now learning this the hard way as well.

I thought they were working on new monetization options? Last I remember there was talk of paid subscription like Twitch and it removes ads for that persons content.

atpChar OR RIOT!!!

Seriously, though, I'm curious to see of the people I follow, how many switch over to YouTube. I don't really see the incentive.

Their iOS app is actually quite fantastic IMHO. Way easier to browse than using their mobile site.

Don't know if you are talking about their mobile site or the apps...

Their app on my iPhone 6 is terrible. Half of the time it won't pick up the live stream or show past streams of channels that is clearly active if you got Flash. Hate their app and their website...

If there is one company that can probably afford to money-hat some popular streamers and poach them, it's probably Google.

Money-hat them how, though?

I don't see how they could offer someone enough money to risk a good living through Twitch and completely move their operation to an unproven, brand new website(I know, I know, its YouTube but you know what I mean).

QFT. I'm not sure a lot of people here really understand how this business works.

I know. Look at the original post which I quoted. I am talking about YouTube here. YouTube is not "doomed" if they don't fix their chat.

YouTube's E3 streams made the average Twitch stream look like a total joke.

Pulling for YT to take over or for Twitch to stop being garbage.

It was the other way round for me.

The Beth stream kept downrating to 360p and chat just kept getting disabled due to load.

Here is what I think will happen

- People on Twitch trying to make streaming a career but aren't really making it big on Twitch yet will switch over to YouTube for the fresh start. They will definitely have a better chance to build a community on a new site instead of being mired on Twitch.

- People big on Twitch (I'm talking 500+ subs) will definitely not move to YouTube for streaming. I just don't think anyone making that much a month plus whatever they get from donations is going to risk it all to switch to YouTube. Especially if they don't have a sub system set up.

- If YouTube turns out to blow Twitch out of the water, I can see people switching over, especially if their numbers on Twitch really start to decline.

- As for viewers, the Twitch culture is really ingrained for many people. The emotes, memes, and familiarity with the site and how it operates might be too much for some people to ignore. Personally when someone I want to watch was streaming on YouTube I would watch but chatting and participating in a discussion was something I actively avoided doing.

The best thing abut YouTube Gaming is that every streamer gets transcoders. Right now I stream at 720p 60FPS I use a bitrate of 3800, on Twitch because I'm a small streamer my viewers would get buffering and lag. On YouTube gaming the stream looks great, and if a viewer has slower internet, it will auto downgrade the stream for them, preserving the good stream for archival and everyone else watching.

The problems that I see with YouTube is chat, I'm not talking about what's said in chat, that's different from channel to channel. I'm talking about the slowness of chat, and the fact that there aren't tools to make it better.

If I want to use 3rd party software twitch's chat is actually IRC based, which is friggin' great. If I want to mention someone I just type @name hit tab and boom they get my message highlighted.

None of that works on YouTube Gaming, I can't get a bot in there to use commands. etc...

YouTube gaming will be competition for Twitch, everyone seems to think that its all or nothing, or that only the streamers that currently exist are ever going to be big streams.

I'm sure YouTube Gaming will get plenty of big streamers, they may not be the ones from Twitch, but I'm positive there is room in this market for more than one huge player, and more competition means better user/streamer experience for everyone.

Lastly, the #1 reason I'm interested in YouTube Gaming, is viewers, I'm a small streamer, I only started about a month ago. I use Restream.io to stream to YouTube and Twitch at the same time. EVERY time I stream, I get more viewers in my YouTube stream than in my Twitch stream. EVERY DAMN TIME. I don't understand why, because actually looking for live content on YouTube is just about impossible compared to twitch.

Youtube is not meant for streaming so I am extremely excited to see what Google built for streaming.

I do like Twitch for supporting the gaming community like how they saved Apex 2015.

They might be able to set up dual streams pretty easily. Only complication is replying to both chats.

The bigger, partnered streamers can't stream to both sites at the same time, IIRC.

Plus why would you want to? There's no way of monetizing it on Youtube other than shitty ads with crappy CPMs so.....

That is very interesting. I'm a new streamer and I've been meaning to try restream. My average on twitch is probably only around 10 viewers when I stream. Established twitch streamers might not switch over but smaller streamers might. Viewership growth on YT might be better compared to Twitch.

Will YouTube streaming make it any easier to stream than it currently is on Twitch? Less software/less complicated software/etc? Or do you basically need the same setup?

There's a channel subscription service, haven't seen its structure broken down or how people opt into it though.

How is your experience with Restream.io ? I've thought about using it but haven't gotten into it... yet. I will tell you though, my experience streaming on both platform yielded the same result. The reason for that, I believe, is because you're probably stream number 2358 on a popular game in twitch while you could be number 63 on the game category of Youtube live stream list. It gives you more exposure just because people don't have to scroll down many pages just to find your stream. Plus, you may be the only one streaming a particular game so you're the only game in town. That's why I stream on Youtube and the interface is easy to use.

Hopefully overall experience is great
Might not have twitch emotes but could bring tons of other benefits to the table.

Don't know if this has already been covered, but how does this interact with Youtube's copyright policies, being censored or having content claims?
Will Konami be entering peoples MGS5 streams and copyright claiming them, etc etc?

My good pal has a Warframe clan with me on PS4 and I am super stoked we may be able to do better streaming than twitch. It really sucks and were both on 60/10 cable and the quality is a joke on twitch. I basically use my turbo for ad free hearthstone watching these days.

US only, anyway to get around this? Would like to start Streaming but it's esentially too late when it eventually rolls to Australia.

The only problem I have using restream is that I have to do it at a lower bitrate because twitch won't accept anything higher than 3500.

That and managing two chat rooms is odd. Talking to people in one room confuses people in the other. When I stream Pokemon I name the Pokemon I catch after the chatters. If I use restream this becomes difficult because they are separated.

Forgive me if this has been answered but... I have two issues with Twitch.

1. Bitrate cap of 3.5mbps (this wasn't always there, but has been a 'rule' for years).
2. Stream delay of a good 10-20 seconds.

Any word on how YouTube streaming handles these?
