Okay, I'm posting this because I posted it in ToonamiGAF andd yeah, this was what the hell make an OT thread worthy. This happened last night, I was kind of in shock for a bit to be honest, a bit from weirdness and a bit from shock.

So to start, the fact I played Touhou during my sophmore year of high school came up during a video chat with an old friend. My roommate offhand hears this and recognizes the game name from when he was in high school. He then tells me hes going to invite someone over who likes Touhou, I don't know why, but yeah, he did. Five minutes later, a guy who smells notably and is wearing a Touhou Project shirt comes over and starts to immediately talk to me about his fanfictions hes read and wrote for Touhou and starts asking various questions, like my best scores for the various games and how much I enjoy them, then asks if he can play on my pc. He then notices I'm playing Saya No Uta, and says he feels like my father, and as such, he has to tell me that it's bad on me for playing them. He plays a round or two of Touhou on my PC, then asks if I saw his wallpaper at any point. I say no, and he said that's good that I didn't see it. He then shows me his wallpaper, which is two anime girls kissing on a bench. He then proceeds to talk about his Yuri Visual novels that I should play, then says I shouldn't play them. Lastly, he leaves and says bye Chris (my name). I ask his name to be polite and because he knows mine. He looks over at me and laughs, not answering and leaving my room.

I don't even know what to say about that encounter.

I don't think he wants to be your friend. Sounds like he's too cool and mature for you.

Yes, thank god that dude that smells is cooler than OP. OP just saved himself some agony.

Or next time tell your roommate to not do that. It isn't any of his business to throw "friends" at you.

This is why I can't hang out with fellow Anime fans irl. Nothing I do irl or the way I act shows that I watch Anime. It's more like a guilty pleasure
Plenty of normal people watch anime. But they look like normal people. It's the people who have nothing else in their life but anime that are trouble...

Hence why I likely can't go to say an Anime club. These "casual" viewers aren't likely to be there. AnimeGAF is the only Anime club I need.

Yeah I run into this kind of thing in my local anime meetup group. With some people you just have to have patience. It makes me wonder how they are able to function in society.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action

sounds like dude was an otaku.... They tend to be awkward. Don't stress as you get older you realize awkward people do awkward things that seem strange..... and in this case was. It just happens

I joined the League of Legends club at my college and there were some strange ass people. A lot of people in the League club were in anime club as well.

And this is why even though my interests are in video games, I will never join a video game club

If I'm going to join a group, it will be doing something totally different than what I normally do

lmao he fancies himself the cool kid in the realm of nerds. I love those people

Just looked up what Saya no Uta is...

How does someone just notice that you're playing a hentai visual novel?

Erm, cause I had it windowed, so it showed it at the top.

And please you can censor the hentai.
I uh, hope the censor option censors that stuff?

This is exactly how I feel about being around other gamers, like at launch events and such.

yeah. my campus has a pretty prominent game design program and it attracts the worst type of super vocal fans. whenever students see my office they freak out over the little stuff i have on my desk.

And this is also why I don't really publically display anything "geek" associated anymore

Mostly talking from the perspective of gaming, which also has a fair amount of these kinds of folks.

I've found much better results when you meet someone via a class or acquaintance or something you find out they happen to be a gamer later, as opposed to meeting people/going to venues where the premise is "he/she's a gamer". The former are generally "normal" people who like that as a hobby. The latter tend to be socially stunted people with shitty personalities and questionable odor.

Yeah, my mom was always saying "go to clubs and meet people who share your interests" and its just...clubs based around my interests aren't typically filled with people I particularly want to know

Yup agreed. I avoid gaming events like the plague for this very reason.
