Youtube Gaming set to launch... TOMORROW !

Yeah ... but I'm working overtime on something I love. :)

Your presence here and replies have been very helpful! Product launches always have some rough spots; glad to see you guys keeping on top of them. Hope the team can see there's a lot of excitement and passion behind all this!

I hate for GAF to be used as an "exclusive channel" for feedback for YTG, so as Sixfortyfive asked: is there a better place to submit bugs/feedback? I'm sure everyone is comfortable doing so here, but if there's a better channel, I think that'd be optimal.

Looks great without the side bars.

One more question: how do we find and break down the analytics for live streams, specifically ad performance and earnings? I'm assuming that the stats for the VOD only apply to the VOD and don't take into account the views when live?

If a stream archive VOD gets tagged with a ContentID match, does that just eliminate ad revenue for the user from that point onward or is it retroactive for the live stream?

EDIT: fugimax, is there a better place for me to submit feedback than a GAF thread?

A few (but not all) people in chat saw a few (but not all) ads. According to the wording on the dashboard, this seems to be normal. There are apparently "complex criteria" for who sees them and when.

Full analytics are coming soon for the streaming beta.

As for submitting feedback, feel free to DM me for now ... this thread is getting a bit full of me just replying, I agree. :)

There's a way to leave feedback in the app as well under the account menu in the top right.

My thoughts: 1. This is unnecessary and very few of the gaming channels I watch have over a million subscribers so this isn't for me but whatever.
2. The app is way better than it should have any right to. Smoother than the regular app and it's pretty easy to navigate.
3. The website is absolute garbage. It feels like they were trying to design an app for tablets and gave up half-way through.
4. Youtube's live streaming has gotten way better.
Overall: Seems decent, I guess.

Anyone know why two videos get added to the video manager per each stream archive? The top two videos here both came from the same stream, and they have different video IDs, but only the bottom one plays. The top one stays on "processing" forever. (The same thing happened to Mario 3 last night, and I deleted the duplicate.)

(You can probably ignore the "video blocked in some countries" warning. That's probably ContentID being screwy and bugged. Nintendo has already laid claim to these archives for monetization purposes, but there don't appear to be any actual viewing restrictions on them.)

Yep happens to everything i stream. Not sure why. In fact the one still in processing has the large number of views the other does not.

My guess is that one is the actual stream archive and one is a VOD, but I'm not sure why they'd have to be two separate entries.

Ya its odd. My 150.00 elgato can export a video after live on demand all as one file. Not sure how a billion dollar company can't. So I am going with a bug right now:)

All of my tabs are nuked as well so I am assuming there are a ton of bugs. It has podcasts in review sections, lets plays in reviews, reviews in discussion lists. Its all kinds of odd that isn't mimicked on the other site.

Rewind feature is cool. I also like that chat messages prior to your arrival at a stream show.

Not a fan of the UI though.

Streamed an hour of Until Dawn with my girlfriend earlier. Had 2 viewers in that whole time, not bad for a first time streamer I guess. Half expected more given the new platform and having only 10 streams up of Until Dawn at that period of time. Regardless, I can say it was simple to set up and stream when I eventually figured it out.

I did run into several issues though. I tried using OBS at first with a combination of Twitch and Youtube Gaming recommended settings and my stream ran awful. Literally couldn't load my stream at all, and when I could, the video quality was 144p and skipped constantly. I also had an issue with my audio stuttering. If someone has some recommended OBS settings, I'd appreciate it. My upload speed is 20mbps and I'm aiming for 720p60fps video quality.

I ended up using the Elgato Game Capture HD software to stream my footage, which worked well. I did noticed that when I click stream in the Elgato software, it says I'm live, but my Youtube 'Live Streaming' tab says I'm offline. I browsed Youtube Gaming and saw that my stream was live, which I thought was weird.

You should probably use the recommended max bitrate settings here:
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853702?hl=en&vid=1-635762373580183405-3940746316

Not sure if breaking those guidelines is as problematic for Youtube as it is for Twitch though. It's a problem on Twitch because non-partners don't get a quality selector/reencoder, so if you're streaming at 20 mbps then the viewers will also be getting a 20 mbps stream, and the odds of both the audience and Twitch being able to keep up with all of that isn't very likely.

Try checking the advanced setting on the Youtube Live Dashboard. There's an option to have less buffering or better interactivity. The less buffering option lets you choose to set a delay time. I seem to run smoother streams using that.

It's the same content policy as the rest of YouTube. Everything is on a case-by-case basis, but in general, nudity is not OK..

As expected, YouTube continues to have their heads up their asses. Best not stream an M-Rated game that has "Nudity" listed in the ESRB box everyone, not worth the risk of losing your channel. Hell, getting a strike will have live streaming taken away from you for 6-months anyways.

Why is everything every single time designed with tablet and phone in mind? Why can't they think of the desktop version for once? It is the same thing they did with Windows 8 and now google does it. Seeing those huge thumbnails is such a turn off also a limit to my subs is hilarious i got 200+ at least i want to see what i am subbed to. Access to the menu's could be better also.

Another reason to keep streaming on twitch or hitbox it is like the FCC standing on your doorstep and saying you can't show that!

Some gaffers saw the stream fine, wierd you had an issue.

Thanks

I gotta look into that.

Thanks everyone that visited.

If you're streaming using OBS, try increasing the bitrate to closer to 9,000. That should help get rid of those "blurry" pixels that often appear in fast camera movement.

Thanks for the responses. I'll tinker around with the settings the next time I stream. Cheers

Sorry man, don't know what to tell you. Our heads are not up our asses. You have to draw a line somewhere. And some people will always disagree, no matter where we draw it.

We're working to minimize any kind of action on borderline cases like you describe.

I can totally feel for you guys on that and can understand just in general how if you allow certain things through, it could change the kinds of videos you see going up on YouTube. I know stuff like that is a thankless job and I know it's risky to piss off one group of customers or the other, but you guys handle it pretty well.

Even so that nudity in games isn't allowed, honestly it's pretty broad what is allowed to be on YouTube. You will live not streaming your game that has nudity, or censoring the nudity parts with an overlay or something.

Thought I'd check this out, so booted the new site up on my PC.

Big auto-playing spoilerific livestream of the end of Until Dawn right at the top of the page.

Left the site, won't be coming back - sorry :(

@fugimax

I would like to make a suggestion. It seems that the games section only shows popular games and not streams. There should a page to choose current games being streamed and show those who are streaming it similar to twitch. I don't need minecraft and lol thrown at my face all the time.

ProTip: Add your favorite games and channels by starring them. It will make your homepage a lot more personalized.

And yeah, that'd be a good view to have..

I apologize for my language and rudeness earlier. But you realize what an issue this is, don't you? One of the bigger games that came out this year is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It is full of nudity. So basically you can't livestream that without fear of your account being punished?

You do realize that there is a large amount of M-Rated game nudity scenes/let's plays/etc on YouTube that get away with it but sometimes for whatever reason someone else doesn't? If you're going to enforce it then you need to, or not at all. You have an 18+ age restriction option people can activate, why not use it? Nevermind the fact that M-Rated games are only 17+. Twitch tells you to turn on "For Mature Audiences" on your stream that someone has to click through, why not YouTube?

Why not allow M-Rated games but ban AO Rated games? That's what Twitch does. If YouTube's overall concern is people will start uploading real-life nudity you can make the clause that it can only be video game nudity, just like Twitch. You guys already make an exception for nudity when it is in a medical context (like breast exams, births, etc) so why not make another?

I want to switch to YouTube live streaming but I don't want to have to skip livestreaming a big game simply because the game has nudity in it.

That's not the Twitch homepage. The Twitch homepage has just a much blank space as Youtube Gaming's homepage.

Exactly. Guy was trying to pull a fast one.

Twitch does the same thing, but it plays sound. It startled the hell out of me earlier.

Try logging out and then logging back in.

Thank you that worked! Just another question what are you guy's plans on turning the tide if you will with most streamers having the feeling that Google won't really pay that much attention to the streamers concerns or issue's ?

People will jump on this platform, it has a juggernaut behind it. If I were a streamer, I would jump to YouTube gaming to try and build a following ASAP, while things are fresh.

I don't have anything capable of streaming though :< (or the money)

On one hand, Youtube Gaming does some things worse than Twitch.

On the other hand, I can always count on this player to just fucking work for me so I have to give the win to Twitch.

EDIT: Win to Youtube Gaming I am way too fucking tired

I hate auto play anything, but this has got to take the cake.

Edit: By any chance, were you logged in and the site was aware of your age? (Wondering this because that would be like a game not intended for children in auto play without an age check or something?)

Pardon me if this is a 101 level question or the answer is obvious but eluding me, but is there currently a way to parse through your own long length stream VODs and make highlight clips of moments from it all?

So....dumb question. I've never actually monetized my YouTube account before. I looked into it today and saw that monetization was disabled on my account and was like "wtf". Well I finally figured out how, but I apparently have not one but three ContentID flags, and one was on a video more than two years old. All three of them were in-game music.

Is there any way I can get it back or am I just screwed?
