They own Marvel and Star Wars too. Though yes, it's implied that we're talking primarily about movies that are in line with core Disney philosophy and are animated.

The OP included Toy Store 3 and Monster Inc. so all bets were off.

This was hands down my favorite movie as a kid. I haven't watched it in forever though, so I didn't include it.

Yeah such a shame that all of those, have no/not an available or a bad blu ray transfer (EU)

Edit; Robin Hood is good, but I think they colors are off even their? Same as Sword in the Stone?

To be honest if I didn't burn myself out on watching it so much as a kid It'd probably be in my top 5. When my brother was young he would constantly watch it 3-4 times a day. Definitely still up there though.

In no order because I can't decide. Not including Pixar:

-Beauty and the Beast
-Mulan
-Lilo and Stitch
-The Lion King
-Treasure Planet

Honorable mentions: Emperor's New Grove, Peter Pan (It's been a long, long time), and Hercules.

I know it's mostly Renaissance Disney but -shrugs- what can ya do.

I thought the yanks got a pretty good 40th Anniversary Edition BD at least. Disney are never going to pay for a diamond quality job for it I suspect.

This still applies to Pixar.

Pixar was on contract that every movie they made, Disney owned all the rights to the characters, video rights, sequels etc. Pixar once threatened to leave so Disney tried to create a new studio to replace them that would work on Toy Story/Monsters Inc etc sequels. But Michael Eisner (Disney's CEO at the time who handled the situation poorly) was fired and Disney later bought all the rights to Pixar.

TL:DR: Disney always owned the movies before they bought Pixar.

The Sword in the Stone
Beauty and the Beast
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Mulan
The Emperor's New Groove

It was incredibly difficult. I decided to choose the ones that I never get tired of watching.
For best animation alone I'd choose an almost completely different list.

1- Beauty and the Beast
2- Lady and the Tramp
3- Lion King
4- Sleeping Beauty
5- The Jungle Book

Honorable mention: Hunchback of the Notre Dame.

I wish Disney someday returns to making musical animated epics. A lot of scrapped projects could have been my top choices: Aida, Don Quixote, Legend of Siegfried, Rumpelstiltskin, Man in the Iron Mask, Wuthering Heights, Donkeyskin and Blue Beard.

Tarzan
Beauty and the Beast
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Frozen
The Black Cauldron

It's hard narrowing it down to just five, really. I really want to throw in Fantasia just for Night on Bald Mountain.

Sooooo hard, but these are probably the most frequent that come to mind.

Walt Disney Animated Studio films

1. Beauty and the Beast
2. Lilo and Stitch
3. The Lion King
4. Mulan
5. The Great Mouse Detective

Pixar films:

1. Toy Story Andy trilogy (yes I calling 1-3 that :p, and I can't pick out a single one).
2. The Incredibles
3. WALL-E
4. Inside Out
5. Up

Aladdin
Mulan
Wall-E
Big Hero 6
Hercules (this or Frozen)

Honorable mentions:

Frozen
Up
The Lion King
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
The Emperor's New Groove
Inside Out
Sleeping Beauty
101 Dalmations
Fantasia

Personal favorites, or which ones I judge to be artistically greatest? Only WDAS films? Or are we including Pixar movies? Or only Pixar movies from when Pixar was actually owned by Disney outright? Are we including any other animated movies distributed by Disney?

The ambiguities are too intense I can't compute

Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Pinocchio
Peter Pan
The Jungle Book
The Great Mouse Detective

also, A Goofy Movie. It's vastly underrated in the Disney canon.

More folks need to see Beauty and the Beast. That movie is goddamned perfect. It didn't resonate much with me when I was a kid, but every time I watched it after that I would see something new and amazing-- whereas some other Disney films I adored as a kid, like The Lion King, just haven't held up as well as I've grown older.

Fantasia
Aladdin
Tangled
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Big Hero 6

This was really tough until I remembered that Fantasia and Big Hero 6 both qualify.

I'm assuming Pixar counts. If not, add Hercules to the list.

1) The Lion King
2) Toy Story
3) Aladdin
4) Tarzan
5) A Goofy Movie

It's fascinating to see some of the much more recent Disney movies like Big Hero 6 and Tangled make some peoples lists while others include older classics like Sleeping Beauty and Fantasia. It really goes to show just how widespread Disney movies are over eras and how they resonate differently with every person.

In no particular order:
1. The Lion King
2. The Incredibles
3. Toy Story (1,2,3)
4. Aladdin
5. A Goofy Movie
Honorable Mentions:
Hercules, Wreck It Ralph, Wall-E, Mulan, Who Framed Roger Rabbit

5. Who Framed Roger Rabbit
4. Beauty and the Beast
3. Fantasia
2. 101 Dalmatians
1. Sleeping Beauty

A few comments:
WFRR remains a fun movie...I especially liked seeing Non-Disney characters interacting with the Disney characters, even if only briefly (Daffy & Donald piano duet).

Beauty and the Beast still looks great, still definitely the best of the 90's Disney renaissance movies.

As a classically trained musician and a lover of animation, Fantasia resonates very strongly with me. I remember being very excited when it was released on VHS for the first time. Couldn't buy that movie fast enough.

Not sure why I like 101 so much, compared to the other movies on my list, its really rough looking. Also not a lot of musical numbers (pretty much the Cruella DeVille song, and the Dalmatian plantation song at the end). It's a quirky, fun bit of adventure movie, though.

Sleeping Beauty remains my favorite Disney animated movie. The whole look of the movie invokes this medieval tapestry look, with skewed 2d perspective, and really vivid colors. Also, this movie has the best villain, hands down.

[edit] I'll give special mention to Wall-E as my favorite Pixar movie (would have been #6 on my list), and Tangled, which was WAY better then I was expecting.

In order from first to last:

Snow White
Pinocchio
Sleeping Beauty
Robin Hood
The Rescuers

Narrowly missing the top 5:
Sword in the Stone
Aladdin
Lion King
