I'm not sure what even counts as a spoiler here anymore.. so, might as well be safe.
Just beat
Dragonrider x2
and
Looking Glass Knight
in
Drangleic Castle
.
I've been beating the past few bosses solo on my first try with no problem,
Looking Glass Knight
though.. actually had a pretty intense fight there. (still got him on my first try though) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uGDU9LYWeQ
I ended up poisoning him on accident near the end.. (main sword broke so I had to use my secondary, which had a poison infusion). I had no idea that you could poison bosses..
So, I'm at the next area after that but.. did I miss another boss in
Drangleic Castle
? I still see summon signs in the area which I'm guessing means there's another one somewhere?
Also, not sure when this happened but when I go fast travel through bonfires..
there's a bunch of locations showing up now but I can't click on them and their images are like, blacked out a bit. What is this? The remaining areas?
No there are no other bosses in the castle that you can encounter ... yet.
I also did the same things like you today. But I got help from Benhart because I still need the trophy. On my first playthrough the fight against the Looking Glass Knight was also very intense
And yes once you are in the castle (and talk to Nashandra I gues) you see all bonfires when fast traveling.
I hate almost every dlc boss encounter so far...I hate that snow tiger...I hate new smelter demon...I hate stone toxic dragon with spear...cant say I am a fan of the dlc chapters or Dark Souls II as a whole at this point. Can I just kill Nashandra, and get end of the game?
I actually like it, but hate a lot of decisions this game made.
Just went through Shrine of Amana (screw this place) and Undead Crypt.
I apparently killed an NPC.. That's what I get for listening to all those "Torch needed ahead" messages. I know you can't in the first Dark Souls but, is there a way to revive NPCs in this one?

Haha. I did the same thing. You can bring him back by speaking to a guy up a ladder at the top of the church(?) at the beginning of Bightstone Cove Tseldora. Cost me ~150,000 souls! Then it's 3000 each time you wanna speak to him.

Got everything I needed from the NPC, now to move on.. made it through Aldia's Keep then stopped and visited some areas I missed.
Respec'd my stats again, all that Int and Fth just to use Dark Weapon was crippling me. Went and got Flame Weapon instead, no stat investment needed there. Pretty happy with my character now.
Just beat the Flexile Sentry. Awesome boss design, and holy smokes at the rising water... What a rush! Once again, the added mobility of being naked helped immensely with not getting hit. No Man's Wharf was fantastic.
Just beat the main game, including all the optional bosses.
Darklurker was the best boss fight for me. So intense, actually had my heart pumping and I was on edge the whole time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=070mYUSBN7Y
Will try the DLC stuff later, time to take a break.
If anyone is using the PS4 beta, I set up a DS2 community called Dark Souls 2 Grievance Club. Didn't seem to be one set up, so now there is! PSN handle: soupbones.

Rocking the Demon's Great Hammer +5 now. I really like the great hammers now. But it's heavy as fuck, need to level that up a little.
I'm in the Undead Crypt right now. Man I don't want to fight Velstadt, I hate him.
I'm actually replaying it after beating it on PS3 when it came out.
I'm finding the Scholar version to be much harder than the regular to be honest. Still love the game of course. The Heide Knights are kicking my ass.
I'm also, for the first time with these games, playing a non strength character. I'm going for a Dex build. Still early so I'm rolling with a shield as well, but I'm mostly rolling to avoid.
I went dex as well. It's a drag for the first half of the game but once you get those iframes going, it's so worth it. Was a dual wielding battle axe ninja in the second half of the game.
Take a few learning attempts to learn his attacks rather than attacking him, and how to roll to dodge them (some people like to stick up a shield which apparently works too but not how I did it). Once I learned his moveset he is pretty straightforward.
I found a fast weapon is way better than a slow great sword. Sometimes that guy doesn't give you enough time to swing something slow. In fact Sir Alonne is what made me ditch persuer's ultra great sword for richard's rapier.
I just picked this up having skipped DS2 for the most part, and have a quick question.
I am, to be blunt, fairly horrible at Souls games. If I just want to experience the game/world purely PVE, and have no intention of playing online, are there any cheesy, over-powered builds which will let me roll over the content, or at least make up for being a crap player?
I played through DS1 at release using a pure Magic-user build which at the time was pretty decisively over-powered, and only made it through Bloodbourne, pre-patch, by duplicating the blood-currency vials.
In all cases I obviously don't want to compromise the experience for others, and play purely offline.
Been a few days since I last played, going around collecting all the magic spells now before going into the DLC. Trying to get the platinum trophy since I only have a few more to go. Will probably respec and try sorcery in NG+ once I'm done with the DLC.
I've heard (haven't used it myself yet) that magic trivializes most encounters.
If you want to break the game; there's even a boss that you can pretty much infinitely farm for lots of souls, and he's pretty easy to deal with if you have magic. guide for that if you don't mind some mild spoilers> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbg9BOOP6us
Video is from the original Dark Souls 2 but it still works in this version I believe.

I played this until the pursuer on PC a while ago, but mine isn't powerful enough to run it well and, with constant slowdowns and a very low resolution, I didn't find it enjoyable and didn't go further than the Pursuer.
I bought it yesterday on the PS Anniversary sale and, despite only being able to play for a couple hours, I've been having a blast. I can at last appreciate Majula and cannot wait to discover all the locales, especially that place in which you fight against the Pursuer. I found it really appealing when I was playing the game at super low resolution, I can't imagine how well would it look at PS3 quality (which is not 1080p, but way, way higher than I could play it on my pc).
This is also the only Dark Soul I go completely blind. I read some about both Demons Souls and Dark Souls before playing them, but other than knowing that there's three DLC areas, I know absolutely nothing about this.

Magic helps. Hexes are very powerful, but if you feel too squishy because the stat investment is too high (since it makes you sacrifice vit and end), sorceries and pyromancies are still pretty powerful. Strength builds are also very strong; focusing on weapons with strike or thrust damage is ideal as many armoured enemies are resistant to slashing damage. With a strength build you can also hide behind a greatshield and tank quite a bit.
But yeah a sorcerer/ess should be good for pew-pewing from a safe distance. Plus you now have (semi-rare, unlimited in post-game) consumables to refill your magic charges.

I am playing through for the first time right now, so I'm by no means an expert, but here are a couple of things that have helped me:
1. Invest in some form of ranged attack. A bow and arrow will save you a ton of frustration early on when you're going through Heide's Tower. The enemies there can be frustrating to engage with head on if you're inexperienced and low level. Fighting them from a distance will make your life much easier.
2. Summon! Whether it's NPCs or other players, they will make some of the tougher bosses way more manageable. This version of the game seems to have at least one or two NPC summons per area, and having them to tank hits is a big help.
3. Some enemies are weak to strike damage, get a club or mace and try it out on different enemies to find out where it works best. I struggled on a boss until I realised it took much more damage from my hammer than from my sword.
Oh where am I supposed to go after sinners? It took me back to majula.

Have you spoken with Licia of Lindelt? You meet her in the Heide's Tower of Flame. She will open up the route to a new area from Majula once you have done certain things.
There's also the option of unpetrifying a statue near Majula which opens another route.
Finally you can jump down the pit in Majula if you have a way to survive the descent.
Kinda wanted to make a new thread, but since this thread is still going strong I might as well post my thoughts here.
First things first, I didn't have a good experience with the first Dark Souls. If I were honest with my feelings, I'd probably tell you it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in my time with videogames. It was THAT bad. I didn't get very far into it and I got rid of it. Eventually I realized it was because I wasn't used to the kind of game DS is and what it demanded of me. I probably played it wrong in all likelihood. With that in mind, I took a dive into Dark Souls 2 more prepared for what it had to offer and with a clearer head.
Well, it worked. I'm enjoying Dark Souls 2 a lot more than the first even if its systems are more baroque than the first one. I'm also using a guide because I prefer having some direction in these kinds of games. I'm not following the guide to the letter though. It's just for ideas on where to go and what options I have.
Even though I am enjoying it a lot more though, after about 30 hours of the game, I'm having a hard time finding the energy to finish the game. I reached The Iron Keep and this area has really tested my patience more than any other because it's littered with so many enemies that A) take a lot of hits and B) are shooting shit from far away. Not only that, the area is filled with traps to screw you over if you're not careful. I wish the enemy de-spawning worked faster because going through the same bunch of enemies everytime I die is extremely tedious.
I beat the Smelter Demon (is that the guy's name?) pretty easily with Lucatiel so I think my build is fine enough to progress. The enemies by themselves aren't much of a threat, it's when they mob up that I get annoyed or I wade into a room that has like ten dudes waiting to sack me.
I think that if I can get past the Iron Keep, it will provide me with the motivation I need to keep going but, goddamn, do I hate this area. It doesn't feel fair.

It's one of the tougher areas in terms of sheer amount of enemies. You can lure the knights after the Smelter Demon in the large room underneath the Belfry into all sorts of traps which might help your cause a bit. There is a third bonfire afterwards which might be an incentive.
Have you done any of the other 3 Primal Bonfires yet? If you're planning on doing the DLC, then lighting the four bonfires is probably the half way point of the game (maybe even slightly less). There is a long way to go, but i'd encourage you to keep going as there are some great bits waiting ahead. You could try summoning someone to help you clear out the knights.
