Super Mario Maker |OT| Miyamoto Simulator 2015

My first real interesting level! I don't have everything unlocked, but I think I did pretty well with what I had.

So, I give you:

Fun level! I had a hard time getting to certain places, but it was nice. I'd suggest considering using well-placed coins to coax players to going in a certain direction.

Thanks for playing! Yeah, I played around with various coin structures (there *are* some arrows I added late in the "development process"), but I think it's tough at times to push out of your mind your innate knowledge of where the player should be going. For me, I can't think of a single location where someone could get stuck, because I never got stuck there.

It makes me wish Nintendo had been able to develop an AI that would "run your course" for you as a test measure before uploading, but I understand what they would rather focus on having other players serve as the testing group.

Single block landing levels just aren't fun, I get its a challenge, but meh, find other ways to challenge my dexterity

Raging Spaniard

If they are Dutch, upright and breathing they are more racist than your favorite player
Ive made a couple of levels so far. Nothing too fancy nor gimmicky, but its my approach to a classic Mario level

Gah, left a bunch of feedback on other levels but forgot to post my own.

Fear Factory
3425-0000-0029-B95D

Kind of an odd little journey in an underground enemy factory.

Took a look, pretty good, although I felt like I may have cheesed it a bit by damage boosting through the buzzsaws with the plentiful kuriboh's shoes and leafs, unless that was your intention

Just uploaded my sixth level. It's not the hardest one I've made or the easiest. It may be a tad long, but it's meant to be explored a bit (and so the name) and not really just a linear obstacle course.

Explore the Drybone Lair - 8342-0000-0029-F6E2
WVW69iYYlO8l0INV3h

Now it's time to play some GAF levels!

Alright. Revised level for Basic Introduction !

5D10-0000-0029-1236

I hope all Mario beginners out there enjoy simple levels like this :)
Nice changes! It's got things going on without being overwhelming, the only piranha plant is right after a pipe that gives out mushrooms, and there are no jumps that require running.

Hey all, I just bought the wii u bundle and I'm enjoying the game very much. I just have a question since I can't seem to find out anything.

1. How do I unlock other assets to create a stage? Is it something you unlock?

It says I have version 1.01.

Thanks in advance.

This is the first stage I created: 107D-0000-0029-826A

Hope some of you try it out!

Hey GAF! Are you tired of those BS levels from the Mario 100 challenge? Then you should play mine!

First one is a homage to SMB3. It plays like a World 1 level. It's short and sweet:

SMB3 SWEET NOSTALGIA - 5FF2 0000 0029 C807

Second one is SMB themed, but there are no enemies. Give it a try!

FIVE WALLS - 6AE0 0000 0023 B681

I really wish you could make the tracks go and dip below the lava line. I am trying to make an autoscrolling castle stage where you have to stay on the platform, much like the snake block castles in Super Mario World.

Here's another level, called "Sproingy Summit": 4E23-0000-0027-B154

This is a pretty light difficulty level that has you carrying trampolines a bit. It uses interleaved overworld and underworld areas to imply a continuous mountain climb.

My previous courses:

Really enjoyed this one and it was at a time when I needed some faith restored in this game after a random sampling of what's out there. You did well creating a believable environment and a satisfying experience even though the degree challenge is fairly moderate.

Here's my first course, "A Crafty Goomba Disguise": E6F5-0000-001B-E015

Mario's facing another castle, and this time he's taking the employee entrance! However, he'll need that Goomba disguise in order to bypass the security checkpoints. Can you make it through without being unmasked?

dczWFrn.png

This one took a lot of attempts to clear, but I stuck with it which is a good sign. I enjoyed the creative rationale behind the level and it's obstacles. I can't fault much in your design as the challenges was there but beatable with practise.

I had a hard time with the big conveyor belt jump because it at a point in the level where I couldn't practise it enough and didn't realise it required all the momentum to clear the spike pit. I think this level would've benefited from a checkpoint perhaps after the fireball/vine section, but that's a flaw of the tool set not your design.

A gripe that could perhaps be addressed is in the section where you ascend three levels of spike tops. I didn't like how the gap each side isn't wide enough, so if you abort a jump you can still get collected trying to escape down the side. This combined with the way the camera pans up did introduce an element of luck to this section.

Put together a Super Mario World airship level, "Sledge Bro's Frightening Fleet". Check it out with A3FB-0000-0026-BF5D.

My previous courses:

Pretty good! Again a well rounded level with consistent ideas and fairly satisfying.

Finally got the time to make a relatively simple course and upload it.

When Squids Fly
3193-0000-0002A-1840

It's nothing too special, just some fun with having flying squids around while you navigate a relatively straightforward stage with design similar to those found in the early original SMB worlds. Hope people enjoy it, I've been checking out a lot of GAF and other levels today and I'm having a ton of fun. Even if this stage designing doesn't click for me, I feel like the ability to keep playing new stages almost daily should keep the game fresh for a long time.

Going to repost this again, not a lot of people clearing or playing the stages and would like to know if they they are too challenging or what I could do to make them better! Hoping to hear some feedback!

Reposting mine, I made some changes to my Thwomp course and I created a new course that is a little easier. Let me know what you guys think!

Bob-ombs away
C9E5-0000-0027-B24D

Bowser Bros.
9C8C-0000-0017-F257

Thwomp Gauntlet
0EF0-0000-0024-E87A

Sorry for the bad names, lol.

Another thing I wish the game did, and I am surprised it can't be turned on at the whim of the level designer, is that question blocks give only a mushroom if you are regular Mario, but the better item if you are already Super Mario.

Named it like that for lulz.. ended up adding Steins gate stuff with the coins.

edit: Wow.. just realized it should be subject... not suggest...

I made a level, could probably smooth it out a bit more but I was surprised I could even make something kinda fun. Tried to have multiple paths and a few options to deal with the enemies.

I tried making a Goldberg Machine basic level just to test physics and movement. Anyway, here it is, and please let me know what you think if you do test it!

Last level for tonight. Unlocked everything and was able to figure out how to write music in the level. Here's my first attempt:

get me outta here - c762-0000-02a-3b72

smb3 ghost themed level (which really doesn't play into the main concept much). the actual thrust behind making this level happened at e3 when i nearly broke someone's asshole level.

Really fun! I'm a fan of multiple path levels. Thanks for sharing!

is there a way to make hammer bros NOT jump down platforms??

Curious about this myself. I can't get them to jump through a pipe, so there is that. I wish I could make them Fire or Boomerang Brothers though.

And I just discovered you can put Thwomps on a track so they roam side to side, but can still drop off the track to crush you. That is evil.

I took a shot at a Super Mario World Level (there aren't enough of these)

It's my first level so it's probably a bit aimless, but any feedback is very much appreciated.

Towers and Tunnels (F1D5-0000-0023-489E)

As others have said, fantastic level! It's my girlfriend's favorite so far. Definitely the type of stuff I was looking forward to with Super Mario Maker.

So my girlfriend hasn't gotten her copy yet, but she just made this level in my game. It's her first attempt so please give it a try!

I hope they expand the sounds a bit more.

I'd like an Athletic item that changes the music to the Athletic variation. Only SMB is missing it from the original game, and I'm sure they can whip up a jazzy remix to the overworld theme.

I'd also like

- a Boo Laugh (with ghost particles) that you shake for a Bowser Laugh.
- Koopa gibberish that turns into Goomba's attack noise
- Thwomp's noise from SM64 that turns into Bomb-Omb gibberish.
- A bunch of Mario voice lines. A bunch of stuff for various situations.

I always loved world 7 of Mario 3, just the idea of a world so focused on pipes. And it's just a neat aesthetic that's different from most Mario levels, with so much green.

I've also been annoyed at user-created levels using pipes in kind of weird, broken ways...not lining them up well, leaving the back end exposed, etc. So I wanted to make a level that treats pipes right, dammit! :p

It's not difficult at all, but it's relatively long, so I think it makes sense to keep things on the easy side.

Also I used the maximum number of pipes and vines, so that's why the end opens up into normal cave, but I think that turned out for the better anyway.

I posted about this before, but I'd really like feedback on this level. Only one person has played it so far, and they haven't beaten it. It's pretty gimmicky, but I liked the idea. I can work harder on platforming and level design in the future, but for now, I hope you like the theme of this level.

I hope you guys like it, and I hope you guys can spot the little references I put in there.

I just finished my third level. I spent a decent amount of time on this. Mostly because I introduced a couple concepts and I had to figure out how to evolve them over the course. It is pretty easy overall, and there is 1 hidden 1-up and 1 hidden exit/shortcut.

Made a level at my friend's place since I don't have a Wii U yet, would love to see people check it out though.

Mount Molehill
C123-0000-0026-CE2A

SMB3 tileset, tried to do interesting things with the moles that throw wrenches without making the level overly difficult. I think there's a few spots I'd tweak some more if I could but I didn't want to spend too much time hogging the game while hanging out with friends lol

I will try this course tomorrow. I had toyed with making a Pipe Maze inspired course, as that was one of my favorite things in SMB3. Thank you so much for making that level!

Darn good level right here. I agree with you on the nice aesthetic and the end as a cave being better - it felt like I made my way out of a pipe maze and was satisfying.

Junior's flying flotilla is fantastic - really feels like a proper Mario world level. Lots of nice little features
- general use of the flame throwers pointing in the direction that the airship is travelling which helps anchor he forced scrolling
- I like the switch between forced scrolling and static
- first sight of the Bob-omb is really neat mechanically
- the last use of the Bob-omb is both great and mean ;)
I will gladly admit to stealing the first two from Super Mario Bros 3. Flame jets to enforce scrolling and every airship ended with a static boss fight. I just made the boss room a lot bigger.

I'm glad the introduction seems to work. I put the Super Mushroom there to give the player something to do while waiting. Also, if Mario is small, the freeze when transforming gives you time to notice the Bob-omb if you already hadn't. I thought of a better twist for the final Bob-omb, but I'm not going to update it. I'll just press on and do better next level.

Just for the record, we're talking about this level: Junior's Flying Flotilla (7A70-0000-0022-16DB)

Alright, I finally uploaded a second level. Please tell me what you guys think of it.

It's centered around some light puzzle solving, so let me know if anyone gets stuck.

Every Shell Counts: E562 - 0000 - 002A - 4F97

Some observations from creating this level:

- This is the first time I've realized how important screen composition is. If you want the player to be able to understand what they need to do, they need to be able to see all the elements a specific puzzle/platforming section requires within or near the frame, or else they may not receive the point illustrated.

- There is some odd randomness when it comes to the direction a shell may go in certain circumstances. For certain ricochets it seems like it will go the opposite of what you expect every 1/20 times or so. It's odd. Though it's an interesting challenge to cut down randomness through design changes.

- It's very difficult to maintain object permanence through multiple sections since items disappear or reset when far enough off screen. This requires really tight environmental construction to pull off well.

----

I'm going to check out other users levels and try to give some feedback.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be a satisfying ending, you finally get a leaf and have a chance to fly and find stuff in the sky, which always feels great. :)
