Holy shieeeet so many pages to this thread. That's a whole lot of stages to play. I dicked around for a bit making a stage, check it out.

Hey man, checked out your level. The overworld had a some interesting paths with some being far less punishing than the others. And then, well, damn, I found the hellbasement of doom. Geez, it's brutal down there. I got to some thwomps and a skull platform before bowser fire ruined my day. Again, it was evil down there.

Made adjustments to my level, should be easier now and fixed a few fiddly bits that just weren't working.

Since my first flappy bird parody brings in the most stars I decided to make another one in the hope of earning stars a bit faster, gotta upgrade that upload number. This one however is meant to resemble Flappy Bird a bit more though, primarily by making actually hard and keeping the camera fixed. I'm not entirely sure if this level can be considered fun, but I guess the same can be said about Flappy Bird...

Hey guys and girls,

I'm thinking of doing a video for Neo Gaf and playing through some of your levels and recording it for my Youtube Channel. If you like me to do your level than quote and reply to my message here. Been enjoying this game very much since it's release.

Feel free to use Flappy Squid (8FF8-0000-0029-9874), as it's my most well received level so far.

Unlike my last level, which was tough as nails, this one is very easy to beat! However, the twist is that this level has a "story" to tell. How you interpret it is up to you!

I sat down today with the goal of just making a "normal" level. My previous two were based around very specific ideas, and required the player to execute on something in a relatively small area. This time I just wanted some good platforming, something fun to play that's not hyper-focused. So I kinda just winged it.

...seven hours later, here we go:

Koopa Cavern
632E-0000-0033-B6B4

I tried to set up some internal rules for the level, certain elements will always come together, spacings are all generally consistent, you can make decisions based on lessons learned earlier in the level. And there are a fair amount of neat semi-hidden things!

My other levels would probably belong in a mission-mode section of a Mario game, but I'd be happy to place this one in the main sequence of levels.

Well, made a second level.

For this one, tried to add some challenge while taking inspiration from the classic games.

Any of mine you want to do is good by me. They're all at the bottom of this post (I don't want to just spam my stages every two pages).

Also, do Touch Buzzy, Get Dizzy. That thing needs to go viral.

Super excited to share my next level with you all. Finally got it in a state I'm happy with after probably putting 20 hours or more into this thing.

Basically, the concept is a choose your own adventure of sorts. There are five different paths with different themes that will all lead to a different route to the flag at the end. It's made to be pretty easy to beat and more of a sightseeing/discovery sort of thing, though two of the paths have some light puzzle elements. I tried to give each path an equal amount of love so if it has a fair amount of gameplay early, it probably has a short ending. The routes are relatively short and I crammed about everything I could into the main level and sublevel.

The themes of each path are: a standard (albeit short) level, a coin vault, a mysterious factory, flora taking over through years of neglect, and an infestation. Please give it a go (or multiple) as there's lots to see. Would love some feedback!

Alright really hoping to get some criticism on this level lol I spent I don't know how many hours trying to get it right.. Challenging but fun siege on Bowsers castle, definitely my best level yet but that's not saying much lol

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY GET RID OF THE SPRINGS AND NOTE BLOCKS

Seriously though, it's a great level. It just needs to be toned down a bit. I love difficult levels but this is just frustrating at times. I got to the very end on like my third try and then died an idiotic death. Now I'm on try...I don't know, like 60? I keep dying trying to jump below the thwomps on the music blocks. And if I don't die there, I die on the springs trying to catch the p-block. My new rule of thumb when making levels is: never make any part of the level dependent on jumping correctly off a spring/note block. It'll just annoy players.

Anyway, the fact that I'm still trying despite the annoying note blocks tells you how much I like the level.

Edit: also, you should give the player more than just a mushroom at the start. I guess a fireflower would make it too easy, so maybe a leaf.

I finished up another level and I'm pretty proud of this one. Medium-Hard difficulty and 3 1-Ups to collect. I tried to work some slight visual storytelling into the stage (or as much as you can in a goddamn Mario game, what am I doing with my life), and I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out. Positive and negative feedback much appreciated!

It's 3am UK time, I have work in a few hours but buzzing with excitement over finally finishing my first level. I got so carried away I also forgot I had a date this evening..

Anyway, it plays like a Zelda dungeon with unlockable items and rooms. I've tried for minimal backtracking and done the best I can to keep it challenging without risk of death and forcing a restart. Mario Maker really could benefit from checkpoints.

Please give it a try,

Mine has few plays so far:

Use the Shells!: 551C-0000-0032-58EF .

Two options from me. If you want something neat and visually interesting:

"Don't. Stop. Running."
FCB8 - 0000 - 001C - A5F5

Or, if you want something that makes you suffer for the amusement of your viewers:

"Mr. Chomp's Wild Ride"
F915 - 0000 - 001E - 6030

Lol the temptation to jump in the first one is too much... Although I did jump in the Paratroopa section. Neat level!
Second one is a bit too random for my tastes. I had good runs using spin jumps but couldn't beat it.

Made adjustments to my level, should be easier now and fixed a few fiddly bits that just weren't working.

1CA3-0000-0032-BF76

Fun indeed! The secret underground section was a bit too FX heavy for me. Especially the dizzy one haha. I also accidentally killed the beetle with the fire flower while doing the Spin Jump so you should consider some alternative if that happens.

Burning Justice

the superior princess
Neat, so you can drag powerups on Mario like any enemy. No need to place a character powerup in a block.

The powerup only applies to edit mode, though. When you play the course for real, you always start off as Small Mario.

If you want the player to start off in another form, the best thing to do is place the powerup right where Mario starts.

That would be great. I've done four so far, take your pick:

Head Hop Heights: 78DC-0000-0027-E2FF (Super Mario Bros skin, standard outdoors)
Manor Madness: 3509-0000-0028-38F8 (Super Mario World skin, ghost house)
Bowser's Airborne Artillery: 5450-0000-0032-C96F (Super Mario World skin, airship)
Mario Bros Arcade: Reloaded: 2D75-0000-0039-C672 (Super Mario Bros skin, underground)

Head Hop is the first course I made, very straightforward and not difficult as long as your timing on the trampolines is good. Manor Madness is the course I made while everything was unlocking, so it's packed with absolutely everything and isn't particularly cohesive, though I enjoy it regardless - it'll be the first one I delete when I reach my upload limit, however, and will almost certainly edit it beforehand. The Bowser level is probably not ideal for you, even though (to my mind, anyway) it's the best designed and most technical of my four so far. It's quite long and moderately difficult, including a boss battle, so probably not ideal for a YouTube video where you presumably want to breeze through these things. Mario Bros Arcade is most likely the best of the four for your purposes, it's effectively a remix of the 1983 arcade game, using the same map repeated seven times with different scenery and enemies to mix things up and increase the challenge. I don't think it's terribly difficult.

After getting really low clear rates and only 1 star on my last level, I tweaked it to be a bit easier. If anyone played it and had trouble with the last part, I made that a little more forgiving. I also put a fire flower to make the middle section easier.

So if this game will ever get "theme" packs, I imagine it'll be Athletic, Fortress and Snow. I'm imagining it coming with the theme and four items to go with the theme.

Athletic: Would come with stuff like Fuzzies, spinning platforms (either based on on weight or automatically turning), "weight" style platforms, and bouncing mushrooms. Also included are shaking pipes for red and yellow pipes. I think this one would be the easiest and first. It's one of the most iconic Mario styles and there's even an example of how to make an Athletic style level. SMB3, World and U all have backgrounds and music for it already. The music is especially important, as I personally think the Athletic themes of 3 and World are more iconic than the actual stage themes. But that's just me. SMB background could be designed around the normal grass style, and obviously an upbeat 8-bit jazzy remix of the SMB 1-1 theme is something they could whip off in their sleep. All four games have Athletic levels, so this is a very obvious inclusion. The kids like making stages over pits with blind jumps, why not encourage them more with an entire style based around that! Too bad we won't get Wii's Athletic theme...

Fortress: This one I'm not quite sure why it wasn't included. 3, World and U all have backgrounds for this already. SMB could get sort of a brown styled castle I think. SMB, 3 and World all need unique music for this theme though. Or re-use the castle theme? That's more authentic, but might be labeled as "lazy." Anyway, would come with "Annoying Green Moving Blocks", Wrecking Balls/Spike Balls, Giant Spiky Crushers and Boney Beetle as the enemy. Another theme that's consistent in the majority of the games and pretty missed. I guess Airship sort of replaces this... but eh... Bonus: give Hammer Bros a Fire Flower to make him Fire Bros.

Snow: This theme is in SMB, 3 and U. Yes, SMB has a snow theme. You didn't know? Night sky, white trees. A later stage would also have grey bricks and grey mushrooms, might as well use those instead of the boring brown bricks. Give a jazzy 8-bit Christmas styled remix from a beloved Mario Snow song. And whatever song for 3 and World. World is fairly obvious what it would sound like in Snow. Adds the ability to shake the Fire Flower for Ice Mario. Also adds the frog suit for SMB, 3 and World which is the Penguin suit in World. The other three items are Spike, which is Snow Spike when used on the snow theme, teetering platforms (shake for icy teetering platforms) and icicles, which fall down like thwomps, but stay in place and become harmless after they fall. They'd also slowly sink in lava, so they'd be neat timed platforms for castles.

Darn. That really puts a damper on my desire for the game. I just really don't want to ha e to play next to my computer or phone going back and forth to punch in codes. Are the curated & ranked lists of stages they have within the game any good yet?

They really aren't. I mean, they're a mixed bag but so much of what gets popular is dictated by what people give stars to, and that seems to be a real crapshot and not always indicative of the quality of a level. So, playing with your phone nearby is your best bet for quality levels, between the thread here and Nintendo Life's Mario Maker citation site. I'd give the link here but I'm not too adept at doing so on mobile. But if you Google it you'll find it easily. Let me know if you try to and can't though. Also I would not buy the game for Nintendo's included levels. They are mostly idea or example levels. Ihave some other thoughts on this but I'll PM you tomorrow as I gotta get up early for a flight. :)

Thanks for the input dude! Really appreciate it and yeah I was trying to make it difficult but I do realize it might be a little much xD but I'll definitely keep that in mind.. Won't put that kind of pressure on the next level, but yeah great input! Send me some levels if you have any amigo

Edit: shit btw you're not supposed to land on the music blocks but just make the jump to the moving platform :O the notes were put in my mind just for the Thwomps to come back up

Great job - my only nitpicks are that the giant beetle should fall more easily in the hole (it got stuck for me) and that you shouldn't use those metal blocks by the goal - instead, recall the level mechanic and use the treadmills (outside, I know, but it brings the whole thing to a conclusion and is prettier). Great job though!

SInce my Zelda 2 Palace 1 course has been a hit here is Zelda 2 Palace 3 this one was tricky as i had to use the underground to do it right. Enjoy :)
