I enjoyed the stream. What do you use to get output from the Wii U? Watching other people play provides great insight in making better levels so I appreciate the service to the community.

I have a Elgato HD as the capture device and I stream through OBS. I hope the stream visual/audio quality was pretty smooth and good throughout :) Was that the case for you ?

Thanks for the feedback! On the Chain Chomp one, that was a thing I was curious about. On one hand, the path is supposed to be secret, but on the other hand I don't think there is enough to suggest it.

As for Shell Dome, it definitely does get pretty cramped and I was pretty pressed for vertical space, though I think I could lower that pipe in particular a bit, at least, I think I could, I'm not looking at it right now so I could be remembering incorrectly.

Yeah, I mean I don't think the levels uploaded are worth altering with how minor those things are. For the pipe though, maybe it could come out of the right side horizontally?

Thanks for the feedback.

The length of a level and things crammed together are things I'm having issues with. I'm not really good at filler.

Oh, and there was a third option for those blocks. Not just the P-Block and Tanooki Tail. There's an invisible block with a shell too.

You could try taking objects and enemies of the level and moving them farther apart from each other, add a short platforming section, etc.. Just play around with separate small ideas/platforming segments and stitch them together and see what happens.

Also cool, didn't realize that.

Great feedback, thank you for taking the time to play and to provide a detailed feedback. I will definitely keep that in mind for my next courses, or just updating the current ones. You have any courses that you have created so I could give them a go?

No problem man, thanks for reading my feedback even though it was littered with spelling and grammar errors (went back and fixed some of it). I have a few ones I made, based off of the days you unlock things with the editor, here's the last two:

Day 2: Spiny Colony
91B1-0000-002C-ECDC

Day 3: Shy Guy's Spikey Swim
9C9C-0000-0035-E544

Just supposed to be easy, fast-paced levels with 100 coins to guide you. Kinda got burnt out on making them after 3 lol. Let me know what you think!

Thanks! I also saw it being played by Shiba just now. I'll go tweak it a bit. I'm not aiming for easy or friendly. But maybe less stuff would help.

Cool, I'll give it a shot again if you re-upload.

I reached 52 stars this night (thanks to ohNOitsRO I must say: thank you a lot man!).

Quick stats:
  • I have uploaded 7 levels in total. Those levels were tested by a total of 192 players.
  • The most played level is my first one (1-1), with a total of 50 attempts (39 successful ones), by 42 players. Success ratio is 78%.
  • This level is also the one with the most stars given, with a total of 11 (released the 09/15/2015).
  • The level with the highest success rate is (1-3): 90%, for 20 attempts (20 players). It is also rated the lowest, with only 4 stars (which is roughly a 1/5 ratio). The level itself is Aquatic, quite easy and very short, so I guess most people don't find it interesting. With its success rate, I guess it only shows up in the Easy 100-Mario challenge.
  • The level with the lowest success rate is (1-6 Janus' House): 30% for 40 attempts (22 players). I believe most deaths happened on the second screen, but it seems I can't check this on the "Uploaded stages" screen, which only shows the first screen, so I can't check easily what caused so many deaths (I tried to manually check one section I thought was a little unfair, but it does't seem people died there that often).
  • The level with the best "Stars given by number of players" ratio is (1-7), which was published yesterday: 6 stars for 11 players (54,5%). The few guys who tried it seemed to like it. Judging by the drawing one Miiverse user left me, he found the Leaf power-up.

Recap post of my levels.

Now, that all white level by Storm Kyleis which seems promising. I'll try it right away.
Edit: Level completed. That was really clever! Thank you, it was a very enjoyable ride.

I really enjoy your style of simply making a normal game. You and the GAF contest for a 1-1 stage are the two main reasons why I try something similar. I now just have to hit 150 stars in order to upload more. xD
1-4 and 1-Castle are already finished and waiting for upload.

Easier With Mushroom 03
(5C69-0000-004E-96F4)

Quoting so I can play tomorrow, I've been long waiting for the sequel to Easier With Mushroom 2. I think you may be the first person I followed on SMM.

Also next time I may try streaming levels live instead of posting, spent some time stream testing and getting a decent setup over the last couple days. Weirdly enough when I try and stream from OBS it's choppy, but it actually works better with Elgato software (and the audio lag from mic is only like half a second). Only thing is OBS has a really good noise gate, my mic is way too sensitive.

I'm glad you enjoy them :) I really wanted to make a tribute to all the great stages we played in Super Mario Bros 3. After completing 1-8 I will begin "World 2" and try to make more complex levels, since so far I've been restraining myself a lot so that my family members are able to complete the levels without getting frustrated. Time to up the ante and make things a little more challenging.

Also, I guess that I will try to make something a little different later, on top of my classic stages: SMM allows us to make some very interesting things, and I'd like to make something "unique" for a change.

I'll be streaming user-submitted levels again at about 10PM Eastern (one hour from now). Post a code for a level and I'll stream it. One code per GAFfer. It can be for your stage or someone else's stage of your choice. Just quote this post with the code so that I can easily see it. First come, first served.

Hey Sixfortyfive, thank you for playing my stage today :) Glad you said my stage got just about the right balance for an auto-scroller, haha. It felt right to do that for an underwater stage. Anyways, I am going to work on version 2 of this stage soon enough based on previous feedbacks :)

Mario's Shell Ride
C641-0000-004E-AA5B

My attempt at an automatic level, since they seem to be so popular. It's an entire level of Mario riding a moving shell, so just jump down the hole and enjoy the ride!

It took me 4 days to finish this level. It was originally going to be much more simple, but while making it, I kept accidentally discovering new tricks that I just had to include. I even left a few tricks out because by the end, I just wanted it to be over. Testing it to make sure everything worked 100% of the time was starting to get frustrating because I'd often find that adding or removing even just 1 block could ruin or change the entire level. I hope you enjoy it!

I have this course.

I think people are stumped.

Well, as far as I can tell, I'm the first person to beat the level XD

It's pretty brutal! There are like a million ways to get completely stuck and have to restart the level. I figured out the "secret" pretty early on, but executing it takes a lot of time, and one wrong bomb placement can really make the level impossible to complete.

I like the idea but it needs some tweaks to not be maddening :p
Gave it a star and a couple comments nevertheless.

I think this is the best level I've made yet. The way the level is physically structured, it doesn't even feel much like a Mario game, honestly it reminds me of old Sega platformers like Alex Kidd. :p I love the way the overall look turned out, and it's capped off by the best musical segment I've done.

Please try it and let me know what you think!

Awesome level. And a few secrets. :D

Haha I will soon, I got a lot of feedback from my friend that did clear it. Took him awhile but he did it! Part of the intent of difficulty was something you'd find in World 7+SPECIAL in Super Mario World. I know as a kid I spent hours clearing those levels. So I really didn't necessarily want to relent until I saw the feedback from others. In any case, I've toned down enemy placements and adjusted some platforms. Still trying to find that sweet balance of approachable but difficult.

Does have to be pirate airship themed, or can it be a tank battalion level?

Because if its just airship theme in general...

Thanks for the stream! I noticed your (and others) "complaint" about the P-Block not regenerating hence forcing you to either do the challenge in one try or restart. I had an internal debate about that and decided to leave it like that since it's inspired by SM3DW's Mystery Houses which put you in small timed challenges and if you fail you have to start over. (Video for reference if you haven't played 3D World).

I'll leave the level here once again, in case anybody is interested in playing it:

Name: Mystery House Bounce.
ID: 15EA-0000-0048-B42C.

This has been the best received of my levels so far so I made a second one that I'll post here soon-ish.

Ohh, ok that makes sense. I don't remember if the timer was short on it, but if not then I'd probably shorten it personally to give it the bite size effect.

Hey, everyone. I made some tweaks to the Shoot Em' Up level, and I would love some feedback on how to improve it. : 7B85-0000-004E-4363

Also, for those who love SML2 and Halloween, I was able to (mostly) recreate Pumpkin Zone 1 from that game, with some surprises in store. It still needs some work, though. : EEC9-0000-004F-10B3

The only thing that I would add, is to have a secret block with a P-Switch for those harder to reach areas. Especially if you screw up and you can't do anything other than to wait for the timer to count down.

Apparently, my puzzley level The Cube: 9 Room, 9 Challenges has been featured in this list on Kotaku (thanks!): http://kotaku.com/20-excellent-mario-maker-courses-you-should-play-1731659732

This is the level btw:
I'd really like to get some feedback about this level I just published:

The Cube: 9 Rooms, 9 Challenges

(36A3-0000-0038-EC1B)

WpLv3OC.jpg

It's loosely inspired by the movie The Cube, and features nine 1-screen rooms arranged in a 3x3 square with different traps inside.
I wanted to make a puzzley level with small, self-contained rooms, and experiment with backtracking and permanent changes to the environment. Which proved itself to be quite the challenge.

Not all rooms are mandatory to complete, some lead to the three 1up mushrooms hidden around, and one features an optional puzzle whose completion can make your life a bit easier later on.

Hint:
using the bomb in this screenshot can effect three different rooms.

Also...

Super Groundhog Day!
WVW69iZWZRUe8HYMYZ

041E-0000-0047-4280

Mario seems to be stuck in the same room, whatever he tries to do, he just can't seem to escape. Can you help him out of there in time?

A pretty easy room (still, some people managed to die.... ), but I really liked the idea and tried to work it into a level.
I wanted to try out the exact same concept, but going by this preview (haven't tried it yet, but will right now!) your level seems different enough from what I had in mind... so I went and did it anyway.
Here's my attempt:

Groundhog Day v3
(1550-0000-0056-E34C)

nmOqjge.jpg

OfdqZDM.jpg

Mario is stuck in a time loop, and the same day is repeating endlessly. Can you find a way to escape the loop and fix time?
As usual, there are three hidden 1up mushrooms to find.
EDIT: Uploaded a v3 with some tweaks here and there.

One more level I've made, this time a lot more traditional, is this one:

Don't Trust The Coins!
(453F-0000-004C-10A9)

EXtmWBk.jpg

For 30 years, we've relied on coins to guide us and tell us the way. What happens when they revolt? What happens if they try to kill us?
A SMB3 styled castle level with (once again) three hidden 1up mushrooms, and a twist: if you see coins, be aware. They may be trying to lure you.

Feedback would be very appreciated :)

Yeah, the note blocks are unreliable. It's not just you. I couldn't be bothered editing the stage though, as the entire premise rested on the note blocks.

Glad you played it, anyway! Thanks.

I wish there was a way to filter by game style when looking for levels to play. Hope they add that.

Actually, that would be a cool addition to 100 Mario Challange.

After doing over 230 courses and recording videos for NeoGaf and other place I thought it was time to put on my builder hat again. This is my most complete course in terms of items and using the full map of the level you can choose. My past courses are smaller and has less items in them. The course is well designed and carefully crafted to use each of the items well and not just randomly placed.

"Castle of Nightmares" is a medium to hard course where you will to bide your time and take a good look around before making your move. There's a couple hidden eggs so to speak too. If I can complete it then most people can. I hope you enjoy it and all the little extras I have crammed into it.

Can't. Certain gameplay mechanics change depending on the art style, thus changing how levels would have to work.

A filter for specific challenges (Easy/Medium/hard, Traditional, Kaizo, Jumps, Wall Jumps, "Amiibo showing off") would be really nice.

I believe they will add more things to the game in the future (the UI has some free room for more options, and there are a couple existing blocks/enemies which could get at least one alternate form). At least I hope so.

I need to start making a list of everything I want added to the game and keep it updated. I would like:
  • To have multiple backgrounds choices for each kind of level.
  • To be able to change the music of a stage (not just the "Boss encounter" jingle).
  • A little more diversity with the "basic" blocks. Grass blocks (SMB3) and desert blocks would be nice additions, for starters.
  • Also mandatory "Where are the slopes".

Tried it, and it was indeed a different approach to the concept.

Interesting course, and nice idea
adding effects to change up the room a bit
. In my version
I made the pipes actually loop back to the same room, so that would have been a bit harder to accomplish.

OK GAF, I got the game yesterday. I'll start adding people and checking GAF's courses. I made a couple of them myself, it's so fun and easy to do so; I'll upload them later.

I would think that'd horribly limit things and possibly break the system that they have already even further.

Well for one it would be optional. You wouldn't have to use it. Options are never a bad thing.

Plus sometimes I just feel like playing a certain style of level and don't feel like scouring through Course World or inputting codes.

How do you create rails that have an open end so that platforms fall off instead of turning back?

Also it seems very few people played my level I created yesterday, so let me bump this here once. You all don't like castle stages, eh?
