NBA 2K16- Review Thread

IGN: 9.0
NBA 2K16 is one of the most complete packages I’ve ever seen. Developer Visual Concepts continues to raise the sports simulation bar by completely retooling its silky-smooth gameplay, adding brand-new physics systems, and refining its traditional game modes

SportsGamersOnline: 9.5
Visual Concepts innovative and revolutionary approach has been well documented over the last 15+ years and once again they seem to have broke the mold with this year’s release of NBA 2K16. You could make an argument that the NBA 2K series is the Michael Jordan of basketball games now.

Gamesradar: 90
NBA 2K 16’s strong fundamental basketball smarts, world-class presentation, and multitude of options make it the most ambitious sports game I’ve ever played.

IGN Spain: 9.0
Probably one of the best sports game ever. More realistic and impressive than ever.

Game Informer: 9
NBA 2K16 is the first true classic sports game of this console generation. I can only hope other sports games follow Visual Concepts’ steadfast dedication to innovating on both the gameplay and game mode fronts.

PlayStation LifeStyle: 85
While there are certainly some stumbling points, NBA 2K16 is another great entry in 2K’s series. Livin’ Da Dream may feature more cutscenes than Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but it’s an interesting way to present a career mode

Hobby Consolas: 93
NBA 2K16 is the best sports game of the year without any doubt. Visual Concepts shows everyone how to innovate in a genre where it's quite easy to get lazy. The ring belongs to it, my precious.

Eurogamer Italy: 80
Visual Concepts improved even further the formula, but the MyCareer experiment worsens one of the better features of the series.

Meristation: 92
Once again, NBA 2K achieves the best basketball simulator of the year with NBA 2K16, due to the great and immersive "My Career" mode directed by Spike Lee, 2K Pro Am and the new edition capabilities.

GameSpot: 8.

NBA 2K16 draws you in with its welcoming personality and expanded game modes. But it still manages to push you away with unexplained intricacies. A deep tutorial would have gone a long way toward making the new passing and screening maneuvers easier to incorporate into your game, and at this point, it’s inexcusable that this game still struggles online. Still, the fact that NBA 2K16 is a great basketball experience can’t be ignored. Few sports games come close to providing a more authentic and fun virtual representation of the real thing, and even if this is the least user-friendly entry in years, I can’t stop playing it.

AttackOfTheFanboy: 90
In 2K16 Visual Concepts proves once again that they’ve still got their fans in mind, adding new features and modes, re-introducing old favorites, and sharpening both the visuals, presentation, and gameplay to near perfection.

Metacritic

Will update as more come in.

The Spike Lee story is absolute rubbish, and there are no tutorials or anything to teach a new player how to play, but apart from that the rest of the content is really good.

Here's my 5/5 review for Sporting News: http://www.sportingnews.com/list/46...eatures-myleague-mygm-spike-lee-mycareer-mode

How's the netplay? That's the key to me picking up another 2K game.

The best it's ever been. I've played over 10 play now online ranked games, and they've all been fantastic. MyPark also is running really well. The server problems right now relate to MyCourt (where people can't seem to join others) and Pro Am (where games simply don't start). Otherwise everything is smooth and responsive and no server outages preventing you from continuing MyCareer or MyGM.

Sounds like that hasn#t changed since I tried the series with NBA 2k14. Is the VC stuff also as prevalent? I saw a screenshot of being able to buy wins which is something that made me feel sick immediately.

Reading some of the Steam reviews not many are liking the Spike Lee directed career mode.

I never thought in a million years that I'd want to buy another NBA 2K game... but this looks so good! Everything I wanted '14 to be.

Does it still have the same backbreaking pay2win micro transactions in many of its game modes? Do any of the reviews even bring those up?

A basketball game with more cutscenes than a Metal Gear game? A basketball game? What a world we live in. Looks great! I can't even remember the last sports game I bought, but the last one I remember playing and enjoying was NBA2K2. I may pick this up. Is it the same on PC as PS4/Xbone? As in all the same content and whatnot?

Your mileage may vary, but I've played two play now online games so far and both have had significant input lag, and the game seems it runs like half the speed of offline play. Also the second game I got disconnected. I hope that's just issues on my end though.

Played over the weekend. It is indeed good.

but I am usually cool with spike lee stuff but jesus that opening/myCareer came off as horribly pretentious.

After 200+ hours in 2k14 and 2k15 I was ready to just sit this one out but a kind NZ Gaffer hooked me up for $15 last night.

Everything looks good but I really have no interest in the Spike Lee stuff and the MyCareer sounds like it's more of a slow grind than ever.

Reading some of the Steam reviews not many are liking the Spike Lee directed career mode as they are stuck playing as a poor black kid.

I was going to go ahead and just pretend that my 7'2" white center was adopted but then someone mentioned that your sister is your twin.

How's this game for new players only interested in single player?

oh, hmmm.

Even though there aren't any tutorials, once you get the hang of it is REALLY good in my opinion.

I haven't played a basketball game since the N64 and I am starting to get the understand how to play it and feels like there is a lot of depth to the system.

if anyone here picks it up based on reviews.........purposely foul out and forget the entire story. It's garbage and there is no reward for doing it. Your draft stock means nothing as it only lasts 8 games and you can basically sign with any team after your first year depending on how much you want to play or get paid.....which won't be much as you don't get much VC to upgrade your character until you start the REAL MyCareer

Game is pretty good, definitely better than last year's outing. At least it seems like it so far.

Still feel like 2K is a bit on auto-pilot with NBA Live being a pile of shit, but MyCareer is so goddamn addictive. I'm already a few games into the first season of 2K16's mycareer.

2 questions:

- why is it Rubbish? What standard is it being held to? So far it looks like GTAV type scenes... which look great to me.

- Aren't there tutorial "videos", showing you the controls? This sounds great for when I want to sit down with a group of guys and want something to tell everyone the controls at once.

Its just a bit cheesy. Its also silly when you make a tall white ugly guy and your twin sister is short, sexy and black.

But it is fun for sure. You get lots of laughs for how absurd some things come across
