Bioshock only had combat because it would have been too risky not to have it. There was too much money invested for Irrational to take risks-- even the idea of putting Elizabeth on the box art of Infinite was too risky.

Is it a coincidence that Ken Levine quits his job just six months after someone proves first person exploration can succeed without combat?

Not sure how both compare really besides underwater setting. One is heavily focused on combat, other more horror-survival.
How'd the author think it's a good idea?
Anyone notice that at the end of the month Steamgaf kind of goes nuts?
This time it's especially expressive. I don't mind it much but deitus is on point with the noise-normal ratio.
Usually skim pages quickly anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
PSA: Best overlooked TPS. Git on that deal folks!

Environmental options.
Luring them away.
Dialogue.
One-off crafting.

There's so many options besides "SHOOT THING IN THE FACE UNTIL IT STOPS"

Environmental puzzles and non-lethal trap setting is something I'd like to see more of as an alternative to the standard game design fallback of "Shoot the ______ until it dies". The world could still present dangers to the player's safety in order to keep agency in check and keep them engaged, but changing the way a player deals with such threats could go a long way in preventing combat fatigue, which I tend to feel after a lot of these AAA FPS titles anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I subscribe to the DocSeuss school of "Put a shotgun in there" and can play Killing Floor 2 or Counter Strike until my fingers are numb. But I'd like to encourage devs to spend less time worrying about the delicate balance of their guns and damage numbers, instead looking into how they can make games story-centric and designing encounters so that they can be taken care of with smart uses of an interactive world.

It's one of the reasons why, for all of its faults, I loved Ether One. There wasn't really anything in the way of personal danger, but all of the puzzles were so well integrated into where the game took you that most people passed by puzzles without realizing what they were. They were entirely optional unless you wanted the True Ending anyways, so it helped that they were meant to easily blend into the background. But it showed me that with the right mindset, you can easily create a system of progression that uses space and location rather than a chainsaw and some hot lead.

Infinite is literally about
a mass murderer who builds up an army for his city to defend it against his mass murdering self from another timeline.
Infinites narrative was built around there being lots of combat. On top of that I think Infinite had the best combat in a shooter last gen, and yes I played Wolfenstein along with Vanquish.

Is it a coincidence that Irrational went under after the company displayed Kojima-like budgeting and time management? It's a gosh darn mystery!

BioShock 1 has crap combat , the only thing it has going for it is the atmosphere and writing that falls off a Cliff after the "twist".

I'm building (or trying to, anyway, I'd need a fuckton of help to actually get it anywhere near releasable) a game that has no combat at all. None.
Interactions with "enemies" will depend on where you are, and you'll have distraction/dialogue/evasion options.

Holy shit need to take a break from Witcher 3 after a few minutes. Damaged by 130 hours of Metal Gear Solid V I can't handle the amazing human interaction and characters with actual characters. Need some air here.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I'm putting the final touches on the artwork for the next thread. Here are a few "rejected" cover photos.

I was totally planning on using that Zestiria one until you guys started posting all those anime gifs, and didn't want to add fuel to the fire.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I've seen the WIP gifs! Gonna be a challenge to pull off, but what worthwhile product isn't without its struggles?

i'm gonna say i singlehandledly saved this thread

What are you doing with the other hand? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I will follow your kickstarter then lament that other people didn't back it.

For you.
Weird bug:

I've never actually played this game (that playtime probably comes from Idlemaster), however it seems to think that I have unlocked four achievements while this page: http://steamcommunity.com/id/keldorn/stats/appid/278440/achievements disagrees with it and displays that all achievements are locked (which is true).
I remember having a similar issue months ago. A game that I never played or even idled a couple hours registed, and achievements unlocked. Can't remember which game was it though.

Flags were easy peasy, you just needed a map, take notes and have strong resolve to grab them all. Now the Templars were the real fuckers in terms of collectables as some were bastard hard to get to without being spotted with some almost impossible to do without drawing a large crowd of guards to fight off as well.

Collecting the flags was an easy task until you miss one and have to spend two hours running around Jerusalem trying to find it.

I'm so glad that treasure maps were introduced later on, asscreed really needed them.

Not A Hero now has achievements, windowed mode (press alt+enter to toggle between the two), and runs super smooth. I'd tell people to play it, but you know how it goes.

I've been waiting for the achievement update to arrive, time to finally
maybe
play it .

Lol Germany. United for Bundesliga champs.

Why couldn't you at least beat City?

Because it's Gladbach who had one the worst starts into the season ever, lost their manager a week ago and didn't pay enough to get all the penalties they should've gotten today. :/

And Wob isn't nearly as good as they were last season (with De Bruyne) yet, couldn't create one really good chance despite United looking extremely tired towards the end. Can't win that way.

See also Leverkusen yesterday, always close but in the end there's only Bayern (and sometime that other club I won't mention by name because they're worse than anime).
