New Genei Ibun Roku #FE screenshots for Tharja, Virion, Draug and new characters

Have they ever confirmed how they would localize this game? It seems like a niche game though so I doubt they would go as far as spending money on dubbing the music.

Treehouse is localizing it.

The VO strike may put a damper on said plans, however.

Looking at these screenshots has made me realize, this is the best looking anime artstyled game ive seen this generation, so this is what the games look like when they actually have a budget....

wow seriously? i think it looks slightly worse than Persona 5, although this has more eye catching colors for better or for worse .

It looks ok though

The art direction of this game is just fantastic seriously. Wonder what resolution it will run at.
Likely 720p/30fps, the same as Persona

You could see Virion's face (mask?) in the Treehouse demo if you looked carefully. Never thought that it was Virion, though. I had actually assumed it was a girl. Why didn't Virion look this cool in Awakening?

I had thought that the "you don't normally hear music like this in anime" referred to the lyrics, but maybe that little girl that sings Showa music is it. Doesn't the Showa era include enka and old-ass anime?

I'll have to see more of P5 but I think they're about equal imo, even in terms of scope

In terms of art direction think it looks pretty lousy, honestly, I like some of the individual designs but the overall aesthetic is a mess.

Also feels a little hard to prop up the scope or overall tech of a look when it's just a handful of character shots that have about the level of detail of like... an Atelier game. This isn't to say it looks bad, it seems solid but I'm not really impressed by it either, I just don't think it's anything special.

I really enjoy the new Sallya look, and I have no fears that the game wouldn't be solid. That being said, I haven't really played any SMT or Persona games, but its reputation precedes itself.

Secretly hoping for Sallya and Shiida amiibo too

Well, from what the developers have said, that would be wrong.
  • Genei Ibun Roku #FE: Planned to be 30 hours long; 60 hours including side quests.
  • Persona 5: Planned to be bigger in scope and longer than every other Persona game, which would be 100+ hours (but, realistically, I expect the mainline to take ~60).
Persona 5 has been in development for longer, it has had more resources backing it up, it had an in-house engine built for it, the models and world are more fleshed out (no colored NPC silhouettes, for example), there are going to be more anime scenes in Persona 5, etc.

I blame Wii U capabilities for this.

The longer P5 is in development, the more I think they're going to fuck it up, leading to a lot of backlash. They can tout size/scope all they want, but an 8 month delay should've been announced long ago, and reeks of mismanagement. The unnecessary spin-offs don't help matters, either.

Both Genei Ibun Roku #FE and Persona 5 have gone through peculiar announcement -> information -> release cycles. In the end, they were both officially announced around 3 years before they will be released.

When it comes to Atlus, I don't think that this has any bearing at all on what the quality of the games will be and, if anything, delays in their case truly mean they'll be able to refine the game to their liking.

Atlus delayed Record Breaker twice, weeks before it was supposed to launch, and then it didn't launch for over a year after that, and that turned out fine.

I blame Wii U capabilities for this.

I blame them not wanting to model lots of unique NPC's in order to create a crowd when coloured models work just as well with the more stylized art style.

P5 has been in development longer than #FE, when you think about concepts and design philosophies being gathered. #FE was announced before the ink dried on the contract.

That's true, but while taking into account the creative side, you then also have to take into account the technical side of Persona 5 which #FE didn't have to go through:

  • Persona 5 was in development under the corrupt Index ownership, and had to transition to the Sega ownership.
  • A new engine was developed from the outset for Persona 5, which is a huge undertaking.
  • A ton of new high quality Persona/demon models had to be created for next generation platforms, which Hashino cited was a particularly time intensive endeavor.
  • Persona 5 is cited to be a huge game with a large number of environments and such, which is apparent from trailers.
Both games have had their issues regarding how information has been released, and it's fully possible both games were revealed far too early.

I mean, Persona 5 is going to be released on PS3 and is using more or less the same trick since the crowds are composed of the same models over and over again with some slight differences in the color of the clothes and maybe a flu mask.

I think the only scene in which I saw a lot of different models at the same is the scene where the main protagonist is walking in the school.

Do we know what engine #FE is being developed on?

I think it looks great. Can't wait to get it.
New characters look good. Hope there is a social link-esque feature/multiple endings.

Literally everything that was shown of Persona 5 was from the PS3 version until TGS 2015, which was when PS4 media was shown for the first time.

Which one was it? IIRC the second teaser (shown at PSX2014) announced the game for PS4.

hyrule warriors does pretty well, probably the same level of AI aswell.

I dont think HW shows that many enemies/characters on screen, I think it's like 20-30 at once? (need some confirmation here) Frame rate suffered a lot too.

Is this confirmed to be releasing in Japan this year?

I'm expecting a summer release for the West at the earliest if this does come out this year. If Xenoblade X took this long to come out here, #FE will probably be about the same timeframe, if not longer.

Yes, December 26 in Japan... 2016 for the rest T-T

Seems the perfect game for Nintendo to put out during the Summer dry spell. I'm hoping for July.

PV03 (TGS 2015 trailer) showing the game on PS4

PS4 version was announced at Sony's 2014 TGS show.

No. The first PV's description already showed the game was for ps3 and 4

You think the Wii U can't handle NPCs?

I think it can't handle that many NPCs (by how many, refer to the post with vid) without compromising one or combination of the following: framerate, res and details.

You're getting a lot of things confused.

1. Persona 5 was announced for the PS4 on September 1, 2014.
2. Persona 5 was never shown running on PS4 hardware until September 17, 2015.
3. The previous trailers put out for Persona 5 (with the exception of one) had their descriptions modified in accordance with the release delay from 2015 to summer 2016, which was announced on September 17, 2015.

Actually have we seen any PS3 footage?

For example at this part: https://youtu.be/ZRcGHIp8KvY?t=490
Can Wii U render that many NPC (not silhouettes) all at once without taking performance hit?

Of course it can, look at Twilight Princess, for example the e town filled with npcs (and its a Game Cube game) or, i dont know Kingdom Hearts 2? with the heartless.

Any 360/PS3 game with lots of NPCs should be an example too, as the Wii U is not weaker than that, its a matter of budget and art direction mostly.

Now I'm getting confused. So do we have any trailer/teaser showing gameplay but was published before platform announcement for ps4. The oldest one with gameplay that I found was from PSX and it was announced for ps4 at that point.
Obviously those PVsin other post aren't the one I'm looking for since the first PV was published on Feb 2015.

Xenoblade X is on a whole nother playing field when it comes to localization, even the scriptwriter and takahashi had to apologize in the iwata asks to treehouse because of how huge the script was.
Treehouse actually needed to hire 8-4 to help them cause they couldnt do it themselves, and treehouse is no small studio.

Skyward sword near the end of the game aswell.

But you don't know the scope of what will need to be localized for Genei Ibun Roku. Heck, on the Treehouse stream they were already talking about how crazy it would be to localize all the music the voice actors sing for their characters.

There is no way this comes out before summer 2016 in North America.
