What weapon you using, OP?

I recently restarted the game. I was actually fairly far but for the life of me I couldn't beat
The One Reborn
. I tried looking online for suggestions but it seems like it's supposed to be an easy boss. I think my stat distribution was wrong. I was at around 24 for Vitality, Strength, Skill, and Endurace. Reading online it seems like people were at least 30 Vitality at that point. Since there's no way to respec and I didn't feel like grinding I thought I'd start fresh.

Also, why are we spoiler tagging boss names?

I put at tag on mine because I was talking about stumbling on one by surprise and didn't want to spoil that for the OP.

But no real need I guess.

I missed the mensis brain last night after Micolash and Mergo's Wet Nurse. More to do tonight.

There's no need to have 30 VIT there. There's an attack than can 1HITKO you but it's easy to avoid if you keep looking at him. You should use a weapon that scales with both STR and SKL with those stats.

Isn't there an OT? this game really isn't that old.

it was released over 6 months ago. hell, there've been 'lttp' threads up here for games that released 6 weeks previously :) ...

ot: enjoy the best game of the gen (so far). there's no place like yharnam :) ...

A hint: Some bosses are optional. With no story spoilers that you havent seen in reviews and trailers, here is how it goes. (puts on spoiler tags regardless)
The cleric Beast is actually an optional boss. You ether have a choice of fighting it and getting an expensivive key to appear on the vendors that would open the direct road to the cathedral, OR leave it and later fight the Bloodstarved beast that will open a passage to the cathedral free of charge.
The harder path is obviously the Bloodstarved beast, and it also unlock passage to 2 other optional Zones and a hidden one. One that you access by dying to certain enemies that spawn after you defeat it, and one that you get access later in the game, plus a hidden one where you get 1 of the special items for the hidden ending.
Nobody stops you from doing both, and prolonging ether one will make it a joke doing it in later game.

This game was made to sell Wikis... oh wait!

Don't save your bullets. I barely used them for the first half of the game, and for the second half of the game I was like "Why was I saving all those bullets?".

Another day, another lttp thread for the best game of this gen.

I'm just glad that more people get to experience this incredible gem of a title. Can't wait for next month's dlc stuff.

Couldn't agree more with that last statement. By the time you get to the deeper dungeons, the most exciting ones, you are already tired of clearing out samey room after samey room and pulling the lever to get to the next boss. It would have been better to save the chalice dungeons as a late game thing and cut out most of the boring early dungeons.

Especially since the early chalices don't really seem to serve a purpose beyond unlocking the later ones. All of the bosses are reused multiple times anyway and you don't even really get good items from them, so you wouldn't even miss any by cutting out the early ones. They just feel like padding.

Just beat Father Gascoigne. Somebody said that the second boss was the hardest in the game; was that him? I beat him on my first attempt (though I came close to death a couple of times); I kept using charge attacks when he was running towards me, and he'd just run into them. Cleric Beast gave me far more trouble, though that was mainly due to the camera and limited space to move on the bridge.

The starting axe. The only other weapon I've found so far is the starting saw, but I'm sticking with the axe.

This brings up a criticism I have though; so far I've only found that one weapon, and a single set of gear. Why are there so few weapons/gear around? In Dark Souls, you would find new weapons and gear everywhere. Some of it was crap, but trying it and seeing why was best for you was part of the fun. Bloodborne doesn't have that; in fact, I still don't know what kind of build ro go for when levelling up becaUse I haven't been able to try different things.

The starting weapons can easily carry you to the end of the game. The axe breaks most fights though. I got through a lot of bosses, hunters, beasts, etc by baiting them into the transformed charged R2. :L

Because there's just not a lot of weapons in the game. That's the biggest issue with it, technical issues aside. If you like STR builds then good luck, I had to switch over to DEX/SKL because the STR weapons in BB are terrible. Chikage main/Blades of Mercy secondary is how I roll.

Bloodborne has the worst opening section of the Souls games because it is immediately difficult. All prior souls games had a good half hour before they got difficult.

Bloodborne had the easiest opening for me. Only died once when exploring Central Yharnam.

I picked the axe. Not sure how much of a difference that makes.

I loved this game so much. I go back to it sometimes for PVE play. Can't wait till the expansion. Will i have to play the expansion in New Game +?

I was so proud of this moment

The Axe is mad overrated imo. Saw Cleaver gives you free +20% damage against beasts (including
Cleric Beast, Gascoigne second form, BSB, and Amelia
) which is ridiculous in the first half of the game, and has crazy DPS.

It also has crazy good buildup for the Beasthood meter. Saw Cleaver is easily the best PVE weapon, IMO.

I'm not a Souls veteran, and while it was very challenging it didn't feel overly hard for me. In retrospect, it was for probably for the best, as it paved a way for all that came afterwards.

I also just started playing Bloodborne. Bought a PS4 last week and this is my first true "Souls" experience (I played a few hours of Demon's Souls back in '09 but didn't make it very far).

This is one of t he best games I have ever played. I haven't had an experience this immersive since Resident Evil 4. Bloodborne completely grabs hold of you and sucks you into its insane world. I literally can't stop thinking about the game when I'm not playing it. I've beaten four bosses so far
Vicar Amelia being the most recent one
and I'm hoping the game's not close to being over yet, because I don't want it to end!

Learn gun parry OP. It is worth the effort and can make short work of even many bosses.

Bloodborne is the best souls game. I cannot go back to the turtling stuff of souls anymore. Loved the in your face combat.

I always wished the stories in these games were decent though. Why are they so terrible? They confuse lore with good story telling and it is so disappointing that a world as dense as bloodborne is so forgettable when it comes to story. Like I try my level best to give a shit but the game does not want me to.

Don't worry, you have plenty more left to go. Be thorough in your exploration, though, as there are quite a few hidden/secret/optional areas in the game.

Dont worry you still got quite a ways to go, just explore, explore and explore. Some of the best areas in this game are optional.

Also DLC in november!!(>∇<)ﾉ

"Lore" is the story though....uncovering exactly what happened in the city and your role in it. It's not irrelevant background info, it's the story. And the storytelling itself is amazing because it takes advantage of the medium. Instead of telling it through cutscenes, it's about exploring the world, and contextualizing things through little bits of NPC interaction and item descriptions. You have to actively solve the mystery the same as your character, and even the game mechanics and how you play the game are part of the story being told. I really don't see how the story is forgettable unless you didn't piece it together. It's one of the best stories, and and piece of storytelling, in gameing.

I'm trying to enjoy the game, if only I could get past the two werewolves on the bridge on the first level :/
Maybe I dont have the patience for this game, killing the same enemies again and again just to die on the bridge is annoying.

Run past them and down the stairs into the house, then lure them. They can't fit through the doorway so you can just smack them until they die.

You can ignore those two or cheese them as stated above.

An enjoyable game, but I've felt no need to replay it, something that happened with the other three FromSoft games.

Just as a general tip, you do not have to directly confront everything in your way. Run pass them and find a lamp or shortcut and just backtrack. You'll avoid having to start from the very beginning over and over again.

The very beginning of the game is meant to test you as well. Bloodborne was my first Souls game and it nearly broke me. It all clicks after you complete the first area though.

Thanks for the tips! I rarely have time to play these days so not making any progress made me feel like I was wasting my precious free time (and on the first level!). I'll try again tomorrow, I promise guys :D

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Finished this last night finally. Played the entire game with the cane whip, never really felt I needed to bother with anything else, even if some weapons likely are more efficient.

Bummed that platinum requires three playthroughs, not to mention a hefty dose of chalice running. Not sure I am up for it, but maybe the dlc will be an incentive.

Now it's probably too late but for the ending trophy you can just upload a save just before the final boss on the cloud, get an ending, and download the save again for another ending.

If you're absolutely determined to defeat those werewolves, molotovs are very potent against them. You'll need to time the throws carefully, though, so that they don't overshoot.

Question: In the
Forbidden Woods
I found a
cave with a poison lake
. Am I ok to explore this area now or am I supposed to come back to it later?

The optional content in this game is some of the best content in the game, which is both cool and disappointing (since people can miss it). I missed Eileen's quest the first time through and the conclusion to it is one of the most difficult fights in the game.

From starts to finish I think BB is the most consistent game in the "series". No gimmicky fights like Dragon God, no shit areas like Lost Izy, and no disjointed world of DS2.

Just beat
Blood-Starved Beast
, in
Old Yharnam
. I've been playing a lot of co-op, mainly helping other people beat bosses. It's helped me grind a lot though; I'm level 41, which I think is pretty high for where I am.

I'm absolutely loving it. I still prefer Dark Souls (the only other Souls game I've played) at the moment, due to the better variety of environments, weapons, setups, and so on, but Bloodborne is definitely up there. It has the better online implementation and combat system (when compared to an offensive build in Dark Souls).

Those are the first really difficult enemies, and I also couldn't handle them at first. The best thing to do is run past them, and take the first left into a building. They won't be able to follow you into it. You can either kill them by cheesing them, or ignoring them.

Once inside the building, you can unlock a shortcut between the lantern you're currently using to the boss by going downstairs, out the door (there are two, but one is locked from the inside), up the stairs right in front of you, and opening the gate.

When you use this route to reach the bridge from the lantern, you'll emerge on the bridge out of the aggro range of the werewolves, just a short distance from the boss. There are a few enemies, but you can easily run around them if you want to (which you probably will after a few failed boss attempts).

If you have trouble with the two big black puppies in Yarnham near the start of the game you can run past as many have mentioned. There is also a hidden path which avoids both of them.

Recently my brother bought BB, His never played a souls game at all, No patience.

But he started it and i love the patch they did with the password so we can co-op, His now getting to grips with it, Were killing invaders and generally having alot of fun. And i'm beckoning him to my Newgame+ which gets him alot of blood echos.

Love the design of the gameworld, Best game i have played this year by far.

I'm watching the Giant Bomb Quick Look; holy fuck, I'm glad they sorted out the loading times; it looks like they used to be horrendous.
