Mushihimesama announced for Steam!

"It is already emulated well [so this is worthless/I am not buying it]"
"$20 is too much, AND ver 1.5 is what matters and that is DLC so even more expensive!!!!"
"CAVE milks their customers"
"Steam is the DRM devil" (yeah, this still happens)

Sentiments are out there, for sure. I'm not sure about 'a lot of hardcore fans' since the overall response has seemed positive, to me anyway. Suppose we'll find out when the rubber meets the road.

That somewhat surprised me. Is this based on another release that had issues? If this was a a previously region free 360 release I might understand, but this was region locked and inaccessible for a lot of people unwilling to shell out the cash for a Japanese console.

Hardcore fans bought a Japanese 360 ages ago, so this release is quite useless for them if they just want to play the game. I'll get it to support Cave and because I always prefer playing on PC (not to mention my 360 went back in its box a while ago) but I don't expect everyone to feel the same. I guess some people consider Cave dead already and they don't care about another port.

The main page has been showing that since the initial Mushihimesama announcement I think.

Still, wonderful!

Word is that Ketsui and a handful of other titles aren't very likely due to rights issues.

As we all know, ESP Ra.De. and Progear are going to be a pain due to Atlus(Sega?) and Capcom.
The 360/PS3 port of Ketsui is owned by 5pb. Cave could always do another port off the original PCB but..that's a bit of effort.

The next Steam release is going to be a 360 port. If not Futari, then maybe Deathsmiles or...?

Like Mushi 1 they'l likely be giving priority to the Hi Def ports and the ones many core western STG fans don't have (for hype and safe sales):-

Deathsmiles 2X (didn't come to PAL but isn't a looker in the GFX dept)
Dodonpachi Resurrection/ DFK (Came to PAL only but worked on US 360's even if the BL DLC didn't work for them, Ketsuipatchi DLC stayed in Japan)

Mushihimesama Futari (JPN only but region free but CAVE's most popular import STG likely by a country mile)
Esp Galuda 2 (JPN Region free, imo CAVE's best looking game but also their hardest and most convoluted aswell)
Dodonpachi Saidaioujou (JPN Region Free, CAVE's last arcade/360 so not as many ppl will own it imo)

Ketsui & Dodonpachi DOJ are region locked, SD def ports & fan faves, ported and published by 5PB so they might not be included in the pc port shortlist. Shame MS cockblocked them from their initial plans of selling them on XBLA like Guwange.

My money is on the noob friendly Dodonpachi Resurection & all DLC or that finished XBLA Dangun Ferveron port CAVE were rumoured to have put on ice.

More coming soon

So help me if MOAR = Espgaluda 2 the PC crowd will be getting the biggest duo right there to introduce them to the CAVE world or amazing. Follow that up with some Deathsmiles (hopefully containing content from both 360 and mobile games) and you'll be set till Progear can come in.

bring it on!

I don't know what this game or Cave is, but holy fuck.

Hope it has mouse support for control. I played the game on my iPad and I can't dream of using a controller for it. Much too imprecise for what a game like this demands.

This won't control anything like the ios versions. Those allow you to move as fast or slow as you want. Part of the challenge of the original, and many of these games, is your limitations on movement speed.

Even if you could use your mouse, you will not be able to jump across the screen in an instant to avoid collision.

I would think with this version mouse controls would be frustrating since it won't follow your movements 1:1.

The game is undeniably fair and beatable with digital controls, though.

The mobile games are fundamentally different due to the movement mechanics (let alone the pattern simplifications on top), not simply the input device. Highly doubt this will have mouse control.

A nice arcade stick is the way to go here. :)

With emphasis on digital rather than analogue since so many gamers use the analogue stick to play digital controlled games and wonder why they can't dodge for shit (even Inafune plays MN9 that way...sheesh), it doesn't help when the dpad on the controller is crap too. (why is that? patents on different dpads with Nintendo and SEGA owning the best designs?)

Since the games are designed to be played with a digital (short throw) arcade stick it goes without saying that they're not imprecise, you just need time to master using one in a precise manner and also know the bullet dodging techniques. For example tap dodging, ie tapping a direction to move a tiny increment is a basic technique key to playing bullethell.

I agree that obviously this will be a stick game.

That said, the few doujin mouse-based danmaku games I've played were pretty interesting. You can do some innovative bullet patterns when you can assume basically unlimited movement speed and precision.

I enjoyed direct-touch (aka unlimited move speed) control in the iOS ports of Mushi and Futari - it can be enjoyed as it's own unique thing. It's certainly easier. Mouse support could be fun.

one problem with mouse controls is that you'd have to split the leaderboards by control method which would be dumb

but the leaderboards on the pc ver are gonna be fucked up by cheaters anyway so ehhh idk

The main thing that makes those ports easier is the auto bombs. They turn them into lives.

Well, if they have replays like Crimzon Clover does, they'll be laughed at immediately. I haven't seen cheaters in those games on the leader boards.

Slow work night so I figured I'd be productive in other ways. Started mocking up some headers for the OT. Modified the bomb counter from the bottom of the screen to create these and tried out a few colors. Not sure how I feel about the serif on the 'p' lining up with the bottom border but I have fiddled with it enough for now.

e: This is in no way me claiming the OT. Whoever wants it feel free, I'll just make whatever I can to pretty it up.

Also looks a bit better in the dark theme. You light theme people need to learn.

Since I don't have a smartphone I never got the chance to try out the mobile ports of cave games, so hearing about shmups with unlimited movement speed is a first for me. I'm pretty sceptical, but I'd like to give it a fair try. So please do tell the name of the shmup you found the best, that does this.

Mushi QA is progressing. In order to improve the accuracy of the port, we've decided to start a very limited closed beta. If you are a skilled Mushihimesama player with access to the original arcade board (or 1.5) and are interested in testing the game, please reply to this thread or PM me.

how about mediocre Original-mode clearers with access to the 360 port, lol

Exciting to hear, though!

Yessss! Great to hear! I don't fall into either category so count me out, but this is great news.

This is without a doubt the most promising bit of news yet.

Definitely easier. Mushihimesama is definitely one of Cave's easiest games, but obviously, it's still a major challenge relative to other genres.

That's a surprise. I haven't played Mushi but was under the impression it is harder than Mushi Futari. That said, I have only beat Futari BL, 1.5 seems harder. (Original mode only, no idea of the harder modes.)
