The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone Review Thread

Going to continue that second playthrough tomorrow in preparation for this dlc; now people, help me out, Triss or Yen this time? last time I went both...

Hopefully they sell this as standalone DLC one day. I really shouldn't have sold TW3 now but then I didn't expect the DLC to be this good either.

Wouldn't that be super weird? Doesn't it take place in pre-established locations? You'd just have half the open world with only a few quests available, right?
That and leveling would be fucked, or they'd have to ask you to drop like 30 skill points in the first few minutes of gameplay, and wouldn't choices be reflected in the dlc? Would it randomize them? I think it's way to much effort for this to work standalone, you could probably pick up the game again at a reasonable price though, it's been out since May.

Depends on whom you like the most.

Some people prefer Yennefer, and some prefer Triss. And contrary to what some people say, Yennefer is not a bitch. :p

Again, its up to you.

I haven't crossed the Pontar yet so I hadn't noticed. Looks like a decent amount of new land and settlements as well. I wonder if you only need level 30 to start the questline or if the area itself is inaccessible until then?
Yes, level 30 is required to start the expansion and since Witcher 3 is open-world, you can enter the new areas of the existing map at any time, though you'll be wrecked hard by high level enemies

Anyone get a Quest notification for a quest called "A/The Mysterious Passenger" ?

I did, then it disappeared and I couldn't find it on the quest menu. Guessing it's something to do with the expansion?

Edit: Nevermind, it's a bug apparently.

Yeah, its 15% off if you preorder from any digital store. Its CDPR continuing to exploit their fanbase... how do they get away with it!?

I think there is zero chance of that, considering the expansion is intervowen into the main game and its world. Big mistake selling this one.

Does anyone know if the new runeword system will be available from the start or is it something reserved for people who have already beaten the main game?

Apologies if it's been asked, but how does this DLC fit into the game? What level is it, at what point in the playthrough can you access it, etc?

You can play it any time during the main quest or after since its standalone.

The DLC is meant for level 30+ (NG)/level 60+ (NG+), and you can access it any time provided you got to the recommended level

Thanks for the answers. Just got back into it the other day after not playing it for a few months, just got to Kaer Morhan, I'm like level 25. Considering getting it so I can fit it into my playthrough but at the same time I don't wanna take the momentum out of the main story, and also it's not like I'm lacking for content. So many quests in the game I'm not doing because I'm already way overleveled. Not sure yet.

It gets you some new toys to play with gameplay wise (runewright), so it's actually beneficial for the main game

Not doing quests just because you are of higher level is...weird, to say the least. This is not an MMO. Quests are all enjoyable and interesting, some stupid XP reward is just a sidebonus.

Yeah but there are so, so goddamn many of them, that why would I do quests that give No XP, when I have a bunch of quests in my log that give Yes XP?

I don't think that's weird at all. That's how we're conditioned as gamers not just by this game but literally decades of games. Also most of them aren't actually that interesting. A lot of them are you talk to a guy, he tells you a woeful tale about an awful monster that's been killing folks, you go to a place, use Witcher sense to follow a trail, kill a thing, and then return. I'll do most quests that are immediately apparent to be more than this but I'm pretty tired of using Witcher sense to follow a trail and listening to peasants talk about spooky monsters kidnapping their wives or whatever.

Yes, monster contracts are usually bit more predictable, even if often there is also interesting twist there. But other sidequests are worth doing for themselves. You are right though that we are conditioned to play for grind by many stupid games, which is sad. At least Witcher 1/2/3 are not stupid games.

Is it available to preload on Galaxy? I bought the expansion pass from CDP.pl shop, redeemed the code in Galaxy but I don't see any of the expansions in my library, so I'm guessing Galaxy users have to wait till the release? :(

I know the recommended level is 30+ for this but at what point do you think you will feel too overleveled to start this? I'm level 33 and I'm worried I might be a bit overleveled.

Ive been playing the main game in prep to jump on this and hot damn W3 has without a doubt the absolute best forests in videogames. Everything about them is amazing and feel so alive.

Not just the forests, even the little towns and Novigrad / Oxenfurt feel alive and have a believable scale to them. You can believe that it's a living, functioning area.

Kills me how even after a decade Bioware can't make a believable scale city in their 3D RPGs.

I need to get on this. I still haven't beat the game yet though. I just finished Kaer Morhen, I assume there's a few hours left?

TBH, Nobody has done it before W3.

I finally have time for the Witcher 3.

My question is: Should I purchase this expansion right away, or should I start playing the regular game first and add it later? Are there any advantages/disadvantages to either scenario?

I think I read the new quests start at level 30, which is a good 50+ hours into the game at least, so I would hold off.

The only argument for buying now is that it's 15% off right now for the single expansion. If you just plan to buy the expansion pass for $25 which includes this content and another much bigger piece of content coming next year, it doesn't really matter if you wait, it's full price right now.

That's assuming the second DLC is $15. It may end up being $20. Has there been any confirmation of price for Blood and Wine?

Not really true, at least as far as Witcher 3. Both Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 had believable scale areas.

And I mean in that it felt like it could be an actual town / city where people lived not a bunch of walls with doors or a handful of houses meant to represent a town. It's been awhile since I played it, but I also want to say that The Last Remnant had a believable scale to its city as well but I could be remembering through rose tinted glasses.

There's probably other games that I'm missing too, but Bioware really stands out as suffering from very tiny areas meant to represent something huge.

I have a question, I'm still not finish the main story of W3 and I saw you get automatically leveled when you play the DLC, so would my character automatically go to whatever the new lvl of the DLC content?
