The season premiere is today!

Ten Knots

In the Season 2 premiere, the hospital readies for its move uptown, while Dr. Edwards makes a play to be named permanent chief of surgery and Dr. Gallinger heads over to Cromartie Hospital in hopes of getting Dr. Thackery to come back to work. Also, Bertie rebuffs Lucy's attempt to make amends; Ping Wu demands his prostitutes be given regular medical checkups; Speight tracks a new plague; and Cornelia ministers to a quarantined San Francisco neighborhood.

Rewatching the Season 1 finale right now. I'm so ready for this to return tonight.

Eugh, my teeth hurt just watching this again.

Edit: The mob guy is the only thing that never worked for me in this show. He's like a cartoon character.

I love this show, it's up there with the greats already.

I hope season 2 delivers the goods.

An alright episode, but ultimately what it had to be, there being so much to digest from last season's finale. I'm not sure I buy Gallinger's whole Mr. Miyagi mind over matter addiciton retreat, but I'll buy Thack's drive at the end to treat it as a disease with a cure instead of an insatiable lust. And poor Bertie can't catch a break.

This show is stylish as fuck. Such a convincing 1901 NYC. I need the soundtrack.

I like how they squeeze modern inventions into every other episode. Moving picture cameras...

So good to be back to these characters. But I really shouldn't have watched with dinner. That oozing pus scene....yeah. Also wish I had the willpower to save up all the episodes and watch one a night like I did with it on HBO Go a few weeks back.

Jeez, Thackery bartering random operations for drugs.

Barrow's new hire is a doofus as expected.

Oh god, Cornelia has to live with her step-father for 4 months. That's the most horrifying part of the episode.

It works in so far as they're both ignorant, and fooling themselves in the short term to get what each wants.

Excellent direction, as always, and I must hand it to Cliff Martinez - the music during the wrestling match was positively electrifying.

Plot wise, I thought it was weaker in that it sort of undid some of the bigger movements that occurred in the finale last season - Cornelia moved to San Francisco but is already back; Thack went to the treatment facility but is already on his way back; Gallinger's wife was institutionalized in that horrific place but is already back. The former two had to happen eventually, but I would have liked for the show to have explored them a little more fully before pressing the reset button (as it were).

No kidding. That shit almost made me gag.

I kind of agree, but I'd rather they just push forward like this than the next few episodes dwelling on Thackery in the addiction clinic or Cornelia being in SF and hating it. But yeah, you can tell the writers are zipping everyone back into their places. Overall I really liked the episode though.

I wonder how much time has passed since the end of Season 1. Show started in 1900 and I think the building site had a sign that said 1902 (unless it said it in the opening of the episode, I missed the first couple minutes).
edit: Derp, OP says 1901.

I'm gonna go ahead and request another volume of Cliff Martinez's score.

I believe 1902 was the year Cinemax used data from to provide an immigration statistic before the show.

Wow, seasickness + heroin & cocaine detox for Thack. I'm sure that's a lovely combination.

I love the complexity of these characters. So glad this show is back.

Good Guy Gallinger detoxing Thackery.

So this new medic won't last, won't he. Seem just like a guy Thackery will quickly kick out

I guess Barrow is stealing money from the construction to pay his debts to wu, that will end well

She's so going to get raped by her in law.

I definitely feel like they're building to that. There is always a creepy and generally uneasy vibe when those two interact. Like in this episode, he was talking to her while she changed after getting mobbed.

Oh shit, this is back on! Alright. Totally missed it. Dat season 1 ending.

I hate Clive Warren usually, but he's on some of my favorite stuff too. Damn you Clive Warren.
