Assassin's Creed Syndicate |OT| Once more unto the glitch

Can you elaborate without spoiling it? I don't particularly enjoy the AC gameplay but was going to pick this up due to the praise for the story and characters

Well modern day has gone up its own ass, I am tip toeing around it, but its doing really dumb things in it now, and still maintaining the same problems its always had (where the plot barely seems to be moving forward)

Evie is a really cool character, and should have been the lead. Jacob unfortunately kind of acts like a foil to make Evie look better, as he basically causes a bunch of problems and Evie needs to fix them. Also the villains are really tropy, but I guess thats par for the course for Yohalem. And this is hands down the most Magic School-busy of the AC games, where historical figures are just thrown at you with such frequency, and the suspense of disbelief that the twins met these people can't be maintained. And a lot of them are used in odd ways.

I am trying really hard not to get into specifics.

Huge spoiler:
The Third Playable character is also pretty cool, and IMO that persons sections should have been this game

Do you get to play as Darwin on the Beagle, killing people like a pirate?

Fair enough. The modern stuff doesn't bother me because I've only played Black Flag and Unity where it was barely there, so i have no idea what happened in present before that

I mostly play the AC games as period pieces. I don't care about the overall series story because I don't understand it

Was just hoping this would have a pretty good standalone London plot I could enjoy. Black Flag did pretty well in that regard, the Assassin/Templar stuff was there but a lot of it was just about Kenway and his friends and family

Huge Spoiler below:

You play as the grandaughter-niece of Evie and Jacob, and there is an entire free roam section in WW1 occupied London, and you work with Winston Churchill who wants to recruit you into the secret service.

OK.....wow

Can I just play that game instead? That sounds amazing

So basically

If you are looking for a period piece about the era, you should be fine, but your suspense of disbelief is going to take a beating.

If you are looking for a significant step in the modern overarching AC storyline (my opinion)
get off of this sinking ship

I absolutely despise anything modern about Ass Creed. How safe am I? I literally wish there was never a modern story in these games.

Thanks. Sounds like this might still work for me.

I can imagine that being disappointing for longtime series fans, though.

While obviously less convenient, you should still be able to preorder the standard version in stores. I went and did it a few hours ago because I couldn't do it online. Sucks that it isn't available online, luckily for me my Best Buy is really close to my house.

:/

I don't exactly have a Best Buy next to my house and I don't feel particularly good about dropping $72 for the Gold Edition. Considering you can still buy the latter his explanation sounds like BS.

pre-orders at best buy for standard edition are available again for ps4/xbone. But store pickup is not showing up for me. Guess I'll give it a bit.

So is that some more Asbestos racial memory stuff, i.e. a dude playing a videogame? I prefer my Darwin pirate idea. He could stab people in the eyes with finches stuffed up his arms while using his beard like bayonetta's hair.

At this point, I wish they never had a modern day in the first place. Because the justification they've been using to relive a persons memories has hit huge levels of stupid.

If you just care about the history part, you should be ok. The writing here is around the same of Brotherhood, which before unity was the game I thought had the worst writing.

Is this true? That's pretty bad ass if so.

Woah! I'd rather they would have just made the whole game this, as long as the writing for it is alright. Any impressions on it?

Perfect. I should be good then. Hype on!

No

Modern Day spoilers below

Basically its Juno just telling you to see it. The actual modern day plot is fucking nothing again. Basically you play Jacob and Evie to find a Mcguffin Scarf, you find the scarf, Shaun Rebecca and Galina from the Initiates stuff have a fight with 3 templars. Rebecca gets shot (doesn't die though), templars steal the scarf, and it turns out they are growing precursors in tubes. And Juno is there in the background, just scheming

Literally nothing.

But the thing before is cool, even though the reason you are doing it isn't that great.

I read it and now I am just more excited, rather than spoiled.

Quick question. If I skipped Unity and the PS3 one (Rogue or whatever) how lost will be I be story wise?
Not lost at all. Unity didn't move the modern day story forward at all. I love Unity dearly, but as far as moving the lore forward it was a gigantic waste of time.

I saw it's on sale at Target for 10 dollars. Is the story compelling enough to give it a play through?

All this hype! I might pick it up tomorrow on a whim, I thought I'd wait until Black Friday. It just feels strange not to go in on it, that grappling hook looks so neat!

It works surprisingly well, but feels pretty weird having in an AC game.

It's an essential tool for traversing the city though, the streets are crazy wide with no way to get across if you travel via rooftops.

as a reminder to anyone that cares...there are some in-game items you can get on the http://www.assassinscreed.com/rewards site...some weapon packs and outfits for Jacob and Evie (there's an Edward outfit for Jacob but you can unlock that with Uplay points anyway)...just for signing up you'll get 10K points and it only takes like 1,250 to get the DLC items so it's an easy way to get extra stuff

Outfits
Evie Nighthawk Gear Set
Jacob Suave Outfit

Weapons
Master Assassin Pack
Industrial Pack
Pirate Pack

edit: it's been pointed out that it's for US only..sorry, I didn't know that

wait,
london wasn't occupied in wwi. or is this an alternate timeline?

Sorry, made a mistake
saying its occupied. She is basically being one of the few assassins left in london since her parents are doing missions across the world because of the war

hmm gamespot review seems really down on the ending. wonder if that spoiler is related.

Well it could be referring to either the modern or past story. The ending for the past is kinda flaccid, the modern day ending is just "wtf are you even doing anymore".

Just a heads-up: this thing is only available to US-based players.

for those that beat it already...what do you think the average play time is gonna be? i think i read 20 hrs in one review. i'm generally not a completionist but i do try and do some side quests if they sound interesting.

so both sound kind of bad in different ways lol

I got home expecting the Gravity Falls game to be here and I was surprised to find that my copy of Assassin's Creed had arrived too. That's the first time I've ever gotten a game early that I can recall. Now I'll have to split my time up tonight between the two since I was going to binge on AC over the weekend.

Oh man, that is a lot of spoiler tags. I trust people to use spoiler tags, but I can't risk it. I will return to this thread when I finish the game.
