Halo 5: Guardians Smashes Record with Biggest Halo Launch (games/hardware) in History

Discussing sales / = downplaying. God that argument gets old.

There's certainly a sales discussion to be had if we ever get concrete numbers...but I don't think we're ever going to get concrete numbers.

And it's kind of obvious how angry company PR makes some posters, they wear their indignation on their sleeves.

So, Halo 5 software + hardware > Halo 4 software + hardware?

And Halo 3 hardware + software, if the PR statement is true.

Is that why CS:GO has 70K viewers at the moment compared to 4K for Halo 5?

Even Destiny as 12K viewers.

That might have more to do with CS:GO and Destiny being popular overseas and the act that everyone (well most of us) in the US is at work or school right now.

So halo did well? Let's see the thre..

Twitch seems like it's constantly dominated by the same collection of eSports titles, though. Do major AAA releases typically stake out a spot in that top ten list?

Maybe not absolute top, but Destiny is constantly in the top 10, Overwatch BETA has been there for over a week now. COD is usually there as well. We'll see what happens when Black OPS III will be released.

You can downplay anything if you try hard enough.

Trying to pick apart an extremely obfuscated Microsoft PR statement, and commenting on exactly how obfuscated that statement actually is does not equal downplaying.

As was stated earlier, Microsoft's PR shouldn't need its own PR, but it's been getting plenty of it in this thread.

Would MS consider the Elite controller as part of the hardware portion or is that too far outside of the scope of the H5 Guardians umbrella?

There is one stat we can compare with Halo 3 / Halo 4.

Halo 3 "Within the first day of its launch, “Halo 3” players worldwide racked up more than 3.6 million hours of online gameplay, which increased more than elevenfold to 40 million hours by the end of the first week,"

40 million hours in first week for Halo 3

Halo 4 "with over 4 million players in the first five days. Users spent a total of 31.4 million hours playing “Halo 4,”

31.4 million hours in first week for Halo 4

Halo 5 "Fans have logged more than 21 million hours of total gameplay, including 12 million hours in campaign mode alone."

21 million hours in the first week for Halo 5

You can see how the activity dropped from the releases... almost half of Halo 3 and Halo 3 activity was sp focused.
That's interesting! Never would of thought it'd clock lower than H4, but I'm presuming thats install base at the time?

Well deserved, I'm having a great time with Halo 5. No matter how PR spins the numbers, it's a huge success.

Hmm, been following Halo 5 on twitch since the pre-release and it is hovering around 3K to 11K views, mostly outside the top 10. Not sure what it says about the game, whether it's the viewers or the twitch streamers that just don't like it as much as the hype want's you to believe.

In the xbox one thee is a list called "Top Played" I not sure if they are current connected users, but Halo 5 has been on top ever since release, note that this list acts accordingly with the top games played, Destiny was number one and GTAV number two before Halo 5, and I bet my life savings that BOPS 3 will take number 1 as soon as it get released.

Lol the game is the most successful game in the series in terms of revenue which at the end of the day is all that matter yet some of you want them to release an exact figure. This game is huge i know tons of people that want an X1 but are waiting for the holidays to get them wouldn't be surprised if it doubled money made by December.

FPS's don't draw the big twitch numbers brother. Not much interactivity

CSGO and Destiny are often in the top viewership on twitch. Also Overwatch beta got a ton this week.

I know twitch viewership is a really dubious metric but Halo 5 did drop quite considerably since launch.

Excellent data.

This is a good indicator of what to expect NPD day with regards to leaked Halo 5 sales.

Title said smashes record and it only fair if the previous record was software + hardware right?
I assume MS know how much software + hardware Halo 4 did and Halo 5 beat it and get the biggest launch conclusion?

Fair is not a requirement in PR.

This could be explained by Halo 5 having lower sales. Though Halo 4 being lower than Halo 3 is a weird one.

So is it saying it's the best selling XB1 game but not necessarily the best selling Halo game? Putting hardware in there leads me to believe so.

I have nothing against the game and if I had an Xbox One then I'd love to play it but honestly, that spin is just bullshit.

Thats a good catch, Halo 3 is god tier for Xbox.

So is it saying it's the best selling XB1 game but not necessarily the best selling Halo game? Putting hardware in there leads me to believe so.

I think that even most of the fans knew this game wasnt going to do better than any other main Halo title released before.

Excellent data.

well technically a shorter campaign would lead to less total hours played by the crowd that only plays the single player.

No idea how big that crowd is though, nor how long Halo campaigns are, especially those buying week 1

Must be the Xbox One only streamers? And afaik they are part of the 11K number that I wrote.

EDIT: Most big streamers connect their Xbox/PS4 to their PC and stream through there.

I think its pretty safe to say this is not the best selling Halo, MS would have said so if it was

Not surprising at all. LOL at the people who actually though halo 5 did poorly, smh

What's "poorly"? Would selling less than other mainline Halo's be poor or are you laughing at people who thought it would sell poorly when compared to video games in general? Because this pr statement doesn't disprove the former and I doubt you could quote someone who said the latter.

I thin you confused what I was saying, Im sorry, I wasnt talking about actual people streaming the game, rather the amount of people playing the game. Halo never been big in stream as far as I can remember.

NPDs are going to be amazing. Great catch. Can't help but think it's indicative of a substantial decrease in sales, unless people are playing offline.

One week after launching worldwide, Halo 5: Guardians has made history as the biggest Halo launch and fastest-selling Xbox One exclusive game to-date, with more than $400 million in global sales of Halo 5: Guardians games and hardware, pushing the franchise to over $5 billion lifetime.
Dafuq is this sh*t MS!? Seriously? No real sales numbers? That just helps what naysayers are spinning. And round and round we go. Dam.

Ah ok, thanks for the clarification. It's really late here and I need go to bed.

EDIT: I agree that Black ops III will most likely take the top spot.
