Fallout 4 PC Performance Thread

Ran into a bug where I tried to access a terminal(the one in the basement at Concorde) and it was like my character got stuck on the environment during the access animation and I was stuck with a blank terminal screen and couldn't move etc.
I brought up the console with the tilde key, and I typed in "tcl" to enable no-clipping mode and the animation completed and all was good. Fucking hell...I hadn't saved for awhile so it saved my arse.

I also had to cap my fps to 90 to get rid of the terminal bug where you get stuck after you've used it.

That bothered me as well but at least it can be fixed in the config file.

Here's an example shot of the edges looking pretty clean to me:

That top fence bar against the sky is so smooth, like classic MSAA smooth.

Here's my closest result.

Really? Oh thank god, gotta search for the fix when I get home
From the mod thread:

Remove Mouse Acceleration
Mouse acceleration appears to be on by default in Fallout 4. To remove it we simply do more or less the same thing one did for skyrim. Open Fallout4.ini (C:Users[name]DocumentsMy GamesFallout4).

Scroll down to [Controls], and under this add the below line:
bMouseAcceleration=0

Note: this will not remove it from menus or similar, but it removes it from 'within' the game.
Also:
Vertical and Horizantral Mouse Movement Different
If you do not like that the horizontal and vertical mouse movement is different in Fallout 4 there is a quick and easy way to fix it. Simply open Fallout4.ini (located in C:Users[name]DocumentsMy GamesFallout4) and change the below:

fMouseHeadingYScale=.021
to
fMouseHeadingYScale=.03738

For other resolutions, simply multiply the number infMouseHeadingYScale, by the ratio of your monitor.
For a 16:10 monitor, use "fMouseHeadingYScale=.0336" instead.

Quite a few people reported this issue a few pages back. Glad you got yourself out of a jam though! Awful bug!

The gamepad icons are a bit messy for me. Anything I can do to fix this?
I play with the PS4 pad on PC and the game has support for it including the touchpad without requiring a driver to emulate the Xbox pad instead so I have that disabled.
But all menus like in dialogues still use Xbox icons. Ingame the game refers to "use X to activate" which fits the PS4 pad (Xbox A).
And all tutorial tips are complete broken. Use Y to reload. Use d-pad down to sprint. The buttons themselves are correct. PS4 square/Xbox X is reloading, just the tutorial says to use completely incorrect buttons.

Just had to rip myself away from the game after playing for an hour, as it's time to head out for work.

Playing with a 970/2500k(stock), and I'm really pleased with the performance. I'm playing 1080p|Ultra|Borderless and judging by the steam FPS counter, it was pretty much a rock solid 60. Never experienced any stutter, or anything negative really. Was quite worried going in, but so far I'm very pleasantly surprised.

Also, the game looks really good at ultra. Don't think the compressed videos I was watching were doing it any favours.

In my experience DS4 "support" is often shitty like this. It's an afterthought to please tweeters without actually going the extra mile. I'd say you could either wait for a patch(maybe?) or, since you know the equivalents, just power forward.

I'm usually not a fan of TAA because it looks blurry and performs quite bad, but this time it's a must. Fallout 4 has so much shimmering it's insane. TAA + SweetFX sharpening is doing a great job and TAA performs well in FO4.

Yeah the TAA is strangely great here. Never thought I'd say that.

My PC has been downloading this all day and it still says five and a half hours left :( At least I have the strategy guide to tide me over.

So I'm planning to pick this up on the PC. Still running a GTX780 + i5-3570k. Very curious to see what kind of performance I can get. Hopefully a stable 60 at 1080p (since I'll play on my TV).

Yeah the native DS4 support is HORRIBLE. Don't even try resetting the keybindings, it'll completely screw everything up.

I laughed when it said press D-Pad left to sneak...

I'm using DS4Windows to emulate it as an xbox controller until(if) they fix it up.

Assuming it isn't just your usual connection causing it I'd try swapping download location in the Steam settings. I often choose different locations for DL to much success.

But I'm assuming you already power-cycled the obvious, obviously.

Oh, fuck, guess I'm not even trying the controller, then. I've only got a DS4 with me and the exclusive mode won't work on Windows 10, at least not on mine.

So the game would think it's both a DS4 and X360 controller at the same time

Thank you. That's disappointing.
I hope this gets patched or modded quickly.

You should be OK early on. It seems like after a few hours you might take a hit though, CPU bound engine and all. But you're a DF guy so I feel silly even mentioning it.

Everything on Ultra except God Rays at Medium.

Played about 4 hours and I haven't had any issues at all. It's running at a locked 60fps (with one or two dips down to 50fps) No stuttering or any of that. The game really does look quite decent. The screenshots don't do it justice at all.

Are you running your 3570k overclocked as well? Mine at 4.2 GHz seems fine but I haven't made it to the city someone was mentioning.

Can I get any help? Can't set a custom resolution for borderless windowed mode and the game only runs in borderless windowed mode. If I try fullscreen the game stutters between a black screen. I don't want to play this game with the corners of my desktop peeking out.

Any help?

Game runs great on my rig. The game placed the settings to high, and it's running at 60FPS for the most part. I haven't noticed any drops, and the game is surprisingly polished based on my experiences.

Anyone else getting really annoying screen tear? Frame rate is locked 60 on my pc
If you're running in borderless windowed mode that might happen. Vsync is enabled by default, so fullscreen should eliminate screen tearing. Make sure you don't have any utilities or graphics card control panel overriding it.

Yeah me neither. I'm kinda dreading it.

Errr yeah you're right. Lol.

BTW the reason I'm stalking you in this thread is that your CPU is one of the best matches for mine in theory. Though since it's Intel it's a bit better IPC. Since the game is CPU bound I'm not as focused on GPU results.

It's random. You won't get stuck every time generally.

I still had it happen even capped at 90. Hasn't happend capped at 75 or lower yet.

So what's the best way to cap it? Is there anything I can add to the config file? I'd rather not have to keep changing my display settings every time I play this.

Use Rivatuner, find the .exe, it lets you create custom framerate caps.

You can also try Nvidia Control Panel's half refresh rate options.

i think the game looks nice. not amazing like The Witcher 3 but i'm happy with it.

performance wise i'm getting mostly 60fps but want to make it as solid as possible. i was looking for that nvidia guide but it seems to be deleted. any other guides?

Yep, I have the same problem. If you have a wireless bluetooth reciever you can use the DS4 in wireless mode and get around this issue.

Also, aiming is really fucked up when using a controller in 3rd person, theres some weird ass thing that happens when you try to move the character and the view at the same time, sometimes the camera locks up for a second. Doesn't happen 3rd person mouse and keyboard.

What is even more weird about that, is it ONLY happens when you have a weapon out, once u put the weapon away the camera issue goes away.

It's running better than I expected. I'm playing on high settings with mostly 60 fps, with dips into the 50's every now and then.

I downloaded some version of Rivatuner last night and there were no refresh rate options, and the PC became super unresponsive for like a minute when it was starting the service so I'm wary about adding that to my startup sequence.

Totally forgot about the half refresh rate thing in Nvidia Control Panel, though, so hopefully that does the job.

You're on Gsync, you don't need to create a refresh rate option. As long as you're above 40ish FPS, it's largely the same difference. Capping a game at say 75 FPS is all you'll really need to do.

Hmm on checking Steam was set to Argentina instead of Queensland Australia, I've corrected that now.

Nice, that's my setup minus the OC'd CPU (which shouldn't matter since FO4 isn't supposed to be very CPU-bound). Good to hear!

Tomorrow can't come soon enough with the delivery! Same setup as well. Can't wait.

So, is there a way to improve stuttering? I'm not dropping below 40 very often, but the stuttering from the slight frame drops throws me off when aiming.
