Is there any risk in choosing in store pick up at Best Buy vs shipping it to me? I had my initial order as shipped, but just changed it to in store pick up.

Driving there
And there is a chance that the store might sell it because someone slipped up.

Happened in the past, it's always by mistake, or an employee is intentionally risking his job to hide it to purchase later or to sell it to a friend.

I just trust shipping more, and if they cancel you're purchase they always try to make up for it. That and IF it did get canceled the Amiibo is being sold separately in other countries, and probably after the release of the game as well.

Oh? Can you link me to your source that spells out precisely when this HD project was started and how many people have been working on it, using how many man hours? And also the same details for all of these fan projects?

Even if you were right about the time spent, the fact still remains that the vast majority of the fan projects that have been linked on here have looked absolutely terrible. And I mean terrible. Not only are they full of textures that are objectively worse than what Nintendo showed, but they also adopt new color pallettes and lighting techniques that make the game not look like Twilight Princess anymore from an aesthetic point of view. The fact that so many people on here are linking these videos saying they look "better" is a good example of why not everyone has the talent to be a game designer.

First of all, Tantalus has been working on this since at least February. They referenced it being underway then: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=999971

The earliest information I can find about Tomoya's fan mod is from April. So there's that.

You can say his mod looks terrible all you want, but what you can't say is that his effects and textures don't dramatically alter the look of the game. It's way more modern and advanced, even if it is an incoherent mess at times. There are a few effects, like the new glow of the lava geysers in the fire temple, that really do look the way I'd expect an actual modern Wii U remake of this game to look.

Point being that Nintendo and Tantalus' professional artists could have done at least as much to modernize the game as Tomoya has, but with professional art direction that actually would suit the game. You can't just say "this fan modernized it but his art is bad, so Nintendo was right not to change anything."

All of which in my opinion greatly compromised the original look and feel of the game. Those additions are bullet points, not objective improvements from a qualitative standpoint. Frankly, WWHD could have done with fewer "enhancements".

Bloom lighting I'll give you, but.... ambient occlusion, real time shadows, and volumetric clouds were bad additions? And do you think those lighting enhancements would be bad here, in a much more realistic, darker looking game? Are you arguing that this game looks better without any shadowing at all?

You make it sound like the only improvement in OOT3D was Link when they updated pretty much everything from world geometry to textures
I'm not sure what you're saying. I only mentioned the character model as one example of an enhancement OoT3D did. I never meant to imply that was the only thing updated. OoT3D has huge visual enhancements across the board.

Can't believe we're getting this in HD! ;)
I love the subtle eye wander just before she gets in his face.

I mean who wouldn't want to look?

Eyes are up here, Link. Eyes are up here.

You've been giving a lot of credit to Tomoya, and correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't it mainly been Tino, the developer of Ishiiruka that has implemented most of the actual new effects into his branch of Dolphin? A big part of the look of Tomya's project also comes from Reshade settings as well. Not to mention Tomoya is actually working with a team of people now, and is credited as a "Texture Artist / Texture Art Director / Founder." Just saying, it's not like he's been doing this thing by himself, nor would his project even be possible without all the people behind Dolphin, Reshade, and Ishiiruka.

Best Buy's sign up system flaked out when I ordered it and now that I have an account, it's not in there. So now I have an account, and an open order with them that's not attached to that account. Apparently.

I really hope my order isn't canceled. I also just got an email confirming the release date of March 5th.

I guess I just sit back and wait. If I don't get it, I sure as heck ain't spending twice as much on eBay like I did for Wind Waker. I'm still bummed I never found a Mario Maker LE. I really want that too. I don't even have the game because I keep holding out just in case I find one with the Amiibo.

I've always liked how TP looks. It ages badly, but I think its style is fairly on point and the in-game models for the main characters (Link, Midna, Zant, Ganondorf specifically) are excellent, in my opinion.

A lot of the side characters don't fare quite as well.

I mean, geez.

But stuff like this

looks pretty great to me. Flat environments aside I think the use of colour, the quality of the models and the overall design of things is quite appealing. Some liken this to "polishing a turd", but I think the two biggest problems with TP's graphics was blurriness and texture quality; the first problem is getting rectified completely, and the second - while one could've hoped for a bit more - is also less of a problem now.

I think it often look too muted and brown-ish, it's almost as if the white levels were wrong, but it was done on purpose. That's the way the original was, and it's unfortunate that was maintained for this one. I wish they had adjusted the color scheme at least a bit. The Palace of Twilight was the only part of the game I thought looked pretty, to be honest.

Like most Zelda games, there's great design work in TP, but it's rarely executed well here.

It is on gamestop.com right now.

I already ordered it. It's just not attached to the shiny new BB account I tried to make at the same time because of some stupid glitch and oversight to not make it so you can retry at the time of ordering. (Even though on the previous page it said it successfully worked. It only said it didn't after I reached the confirmation page. Stupid ass system.)

I have emails and text messages enabled. I will be so sad if I get a message saying it was canceled. And I'm sure by the time it did happen, GameStop would be out of them too.

Sorry, I was editing in some more stuff but I got distracted. I was suggesting to make a backup order if possible while they are available, just in case.

This'll be the first one of these that they've remade which I've already played before. I'll pick this up just to play with regular controls though. I'd like to see them address stuff like the intro and stuff tied into the main story that would've been handled as side quests (still don't understand why you have to chase down Skull Kid twice). That being said, it looks nice enough because the blur is gone and the textures are much improved. I love Twilight Princess and whoever hasn't played it already is in for a real treat.

This looked like crap when it released, and unfortunately it still looks like crap in this updated version. I bought WW HD (which had a very tasteful graphical upgrade - yes even the bloom) but I'm skipping this one.

I was pretty tired when I read your post and the point must have gone way over my head

How hard would it be for them to give some bullet points after the trailer. Or release a press release after the direct with at least som bare bones info. After all, this is a remake out in less than four months. It's not a reveal for a brand new game that's years off. The lack of details feels completely unnecessary.

With that said, it's Twilight Princess in HD. That's enough for me.

PR planning is something gaf discovers everyday. They want to sell games. They won't give all the infos and show all the footage the day they release. It would kill 3/4 of the articles and noise they could make media-wise.

They're obviously saving all the info for the January Direct. :D

So the 4 face buttons I saw in the trailer for the HD version look to provide pro controller or gamepad support :)

Link is also left-handed in the footage, so this game is likely a port of the GameCube version and might not feature Wiimote controls at all.

EDIT: Actually, I'm no expert but I think enough of the environments were shown to know that it's definitely the GameCube version. They could potentially add Wiimote controls into it, but I'd guess it's more likely they'll focus on the GamePad, like they did with Wind Waker HD.

I never beat Twilight Princess. I got it at launch with the Wii(camped out all night with a damn fever in freezing weather, too), and discovered that I HATED the motion controls(made it to the water dungeon at least IIRC). By the time it came out for Gamecube, I didn't really have the money for it and didn't want to buy the same game twice.

This doesn't look like all that much of an upgrade, but I'll be getting it anyways so I can finally play this game through to completion.

I always thought about tinkering with Dolphin in order to play the GC version in HD, guess I don't need to do that anymore. Now I only need Galaxy and Sunshine HD.

I think that by just adding shadow casting it would improve greatly, a more strong blacks could make increase the contrast a bit, maybe saturing colors would help too.

I agree. Windwaker HD had a lot of depth. This seems really flat. I hope they can add shadows. It would improve the visuals a lot.

Wind Waker HD (damage x2 no heart drops) or ALBW (damage x4) style?

Any pre-orders up in Canada yet?
I dunno. My convo with my source went like this:

Source: Eh, I'm not that interested in Temple of Osiris.
Me: Just like how I'm not that interested in Twilight Princess.
Source: What? You mean you're not looking forward to the new graphics and Link being a lefty and hard mode?

...fuck that wasn't announced yet. *walks away*

Maturity, bitches.
So I take it there won't be a way to play with Wiimote controls?

The GamePad can mimic the aiming with gyro and even the tilt for Rollgoal. So all that is lost is waggle for swinging the sword which really isn't a loss.

the dual clawshots are going to be a massive step back without ir pointing. it's way way faster to do that with a wii remote when it's ir pointing than gyro pointing, and faster with wii gyro pointing than gamepad pointing. i suppose it's better than analog stick pointing which made me feel like i'd traveled from the far future to a long ago time.

but seriously the pacing in the wii version is a lot better thanks to the nunchuk + wii remote setup although part of that was weird gamecube version sabotage

Idk man, gyro aiming seels so good. Playing MM3D right now and it's as good as pointing for me. But of course I play splatoon with gyro controls.

Evidence point to Gamecube version.

It's the Gamecube version, you don't really need much evidence to make that claim -- just watch any footage of the Wii version and you will immediately see the difference in the world and that Link is right handed.

For them to implement Wiimote controls it would require that if you pick them, the world has to be flipped and subsequently Link must be right handed. They wanted Link's hand to be the more commonly used hand so that he would best mimic the player's movement with the sword swings (even if it was all just basically waggle). They could include this as an option like I said but it would appear not -- it would have helped make this the definitive version, though, for those who did like the waggle.

No, now the only way the Wii's world is making it in is if it is activated for Hero Mode much like OoT3D's world was mirrored/flipped in Master Quest. Either that or it's literally an option to the player to set before starting the save file (which at that point they might as well have given the option of Wiimote controls lol).

maybe i'm the only person in the world, but i actually really really enjoyed the waggling for the sword fighting. it felt immensely satisfying to me, and i'm not even sure i want to buy the remake if it doesn't support it...
