Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Halo 5 was a good game at launch.

Checkmate Twilight.

As far as the base game goes, absolutely. But there's much more to a Halo title, is there not? Depending on who you ask, (i.e. if you step out of this bubble) that can also be debated.

One thing is better vs multiples things are better?
One game with less content and that content is good is better than a game with more content and that content being bad.
So its not debatable.

Goal post moving.

No, I don't live within a bubble. I know how much criticism Destiny has received in it's lifetime. That criticism was well warranted though I'm sure you know. But almost all of it left once the Taken King released because Bungie successfully turned the game around for the better.

Now almost the same sort of events followed Halo. 4 was a disaster for most, MCC was a tragedy. So Halo got all of the criticism it deserved (tons from me as well). But now Halo 5 has released and has improved immensely, yet the shit storm still rages on unchecked.

Illuminati.
I don't think there is a shit storm surrounding halo 5. If anything no one seems to be talking about. It's almost like a new halo didn't release at all.

The fire that sustains the rage of Halo players is like the Olympic flame: it will never dim.

Been going strong since '04.

Of course. I would never suggest we stop hating Halo. We hate it because we love it. But, threads like "343 made a bad Halo game" or random shit posts are the particular posts I'm addressing.

H5 is better than any other XBL Halo game at Launch. H2 sucked until April 05, H3 is always bad, Reach and H4 took forever to become decent, MCC...

Yeah I'm missing multiplayer right now.

Hope there is a digital sale soon.

Everything feels really good.

Also seems like there are some people posting there who don't even play Halo.

I certainly can't wait for the big tourney. Would like to see Ninja's team win because he has so many haters lol.

EG will win the opener, Liquid have supposedly just found a fourth that they aren't even playing with, CLG looks kinda weak, and the other teams aren't as good as EG yet.

Ninja looks damn good at H5, but I don't know if it will translate to team wins at tournaments.

Yes, I'd agree. Especially for someone like you, who's super into forge and the creative aspect of Halo. H5 launch is super underwhelming for you.

But, I do think something had to give. I think 343 thought that there was serious feature creep in Halo and decided to rescope and refocus. That's why the core gameplay is so strong. Because, they only had like what, four game modes to balance? They were able to focus on that core gameplay and built everything else around it.

How is goal post moving? If you said that it debatable because of the thing I said?

I answered the question about Halo 4 doing something better than Halo 5. I'll list other examples if necessary, but that's the first one that comes to mind given the state of the game compared to past Halo titles. It definitely has the best base gameplay settings to launch with a Halo title, but it also has the least amount of content. That fact alone may invite more criticism and negativity.

Yea it's good that they focused on the core of the game, but that may be lost on the people who have ran out of things to do or otherwise lost interest in what is there.

Was there any cogent reasoning for the abysmal map situation at launch. It's odd to me that a game series know for its multiplayer launches with such a small selection of maps.

I was genuinely surprised.

I'm bad at this game but I really enjoy hopping on and playing some matches. I'm hoping they can keep the player base interested.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
I'm still debating how I truly feel about this game; but I'm certain of one thing - I fucking DESPISE Breakout. It literally strips out every.single.thing I enjoy about Halo. It has no business being in Arena rotations.

Also, I need more maps. I know it's unfair to say; but for what *I* can enjoy, there's like... Next to no content in H5. I've played the same three modes on the same three maps for hours and hours.

The game has a lot of maps. The problem is that the game types are all so different that they require maps specifically designed for each game type. Brakeout has its own maps. Warzone has its own maps. Arena has its own maps. Soon BTB will have its own maps.

Well the southpaw trick of enabling southpaw in the xbox dash and in-game doesn't fix the issue I'm having with my aiming.

If I stand still and move my reticle from side to side (think back and forth along an X axis) the turn speed is not consistent. Randomly I turn waaay slower than normal sometimes :/

Edit: What I find really odd is I'm now trying Southpaw just in the dash but default analog settings in-game and the aiming seems fine running the same test.

The fact that most (certainly not all) of the negativity around Destiny died down following The Taken King shows that players can look passed a developer's missteps if they're able to correct them.

Prior to Destiny, Bungie hadn't really stumbled. (An argument can be made for any of the Halo games, especially Reach, but compared to Destiny it's negligible in this instance.)

343 had several polarizing releases and decisions under their belt prior to Halo 5 on top of carrying Bungie's mantle for the Halo series. Naturally, anything they do is going to come under more scrutiny for the aforementioned reasons. Nevertheless, if they right the ship with Halo 5's sustain and continue that momentum into the next game, I foresee the "average shit storm" dissipating. Maybe by then you'll be able to go on a Youtube video and not read a dozen "343 killed Halo" threads in the comments.

Which I think is fair, but 343 seems to think it was a worthy trade.

Hopefully their games as a service model for H5 will bode well for them, and keep the playerbase interested. They surely have no shortage of possible additions.
Where the fuck is Oddball 343?!?!11

But I feel ya. If you're not interested in the content that's there, it's pretty dry. No incentive for replaying the campaign, or firefight equivalent. Man, firefight's unique users must have been really bad if they've completely written off the idea.

It's basically a wait and see right now. Maybe in 6 months H5 will have enough content for the omnivores.

Eh, i thought the Firefight playlists in Reach had a healthy population (certainly more than Halo's objective gametypes ever had). Zombies is very popular in CoD and cooperative PvE content is hot right now. Can't see them cutting it because of its lack of popularity, but rather pushing Warzone as a "new" experience instead.

343 put their eggs in too many baskets during development causing players who only enjoy one specific basket Halo 5 offers to have less content for that basket than any previous Halo. Fortunately if 343 stays true to their word, they can make up for this with post launch content additions - new maps and modes are all the game needs to be incredible. Infection, Grifball, Oddball, King of the Hill, and all of the other staples... We need them back.

I want some Wrestling moves put into the game as assassinations lol.

I wanna turn a Spartan around Super kick his head off, or suplex him into the ground, or lift him up and power bomb him. Lol

I don't think it's them pushing Warzone, but trying to create content that most of their playerbase will partake in. Personally, I think the AI aspect of Warzone is super lame, they do nothing interesting and are barely threatening. Basically, AI are last hit point pinatas. The actual PvP aspect is fine. Standard BTB affair, but bases/spawns feel super half baked. It needs something more elegant than what's currently in there.

No Zombies is still crazy to me, but considering how badly they managed to fuck it up their last attempt, I'd say we'd be better off waiting.

Thinking about, Spartan Ops probably soured them on a Co-Op mode. I still think there's room for one though. Using Req cards against AI sounds a lot more fun than players.

This Firefight mode sounds

Warzone Firefight: 12 player squad defends center base (fortress, spire, garage) from an ever increasing onslaught of AI enemies. Wave based, REQ increases with wave. Players lose once they are eliminated.

I'm sad that there really isn't any incentive to replay the campaign. They could add daily or weekly challenges for REQ points. Could be fun to use REQ cards in campaign too, or just let us use the permanent weapons from our loadout during missions.
All the routes and collectibles though! I've gone through four times now. I love it. I find something new - a super weapon, intel - every time.

I don't have a huge problem with forge, but it would be a pretty shady tactic if that's all we end up with. I don't think that will happen though.

What they should do with forge is have a separate playlist that has top voted community forge maps.

Don't worry they already have a playlist of entirely forge maps in the works.

It's called Big Team Battle.

We already know about remixes for The Rig and Fathom. Also, we know about the urban Warzone map. Of course there'll be more non-forged maps as part of the DLC. The question is... How many?

Forge maps are not dlc anyway so I don't know why they would count.

Then again they said that there would be 21 maps at launch...
