Star Wars Battlefront: PC Performance Thread

Ram is so cheap, why do some of you have 8/6 on rigs with expensive nice cards?

I had 8gbs of ram with my 980ti for quite a while, it wasn't really needed for gaming. When I had looked last(which was a while ago) ram was super expensive. When I was reading up on the Battlefield reqs I decided to look up prices again and was surprised to see how low prices had gotten and picked up another 8.

Yeah it's pretty simple.

1.) Buy the game on Origin and download (preload) the game data.
2.) Sign out and establish a vpn connection to let's say Australia (e.g. vpnunlimited; free trial is available)
3.) Sign back in to Origin and wait a couple of seconds for the game to unlock.
4.) Set Origin to offline and then start the game.
5). Disable your VPN connection
6.) Go back Online and play the game.

I suggest using a Mexican VPN to buy the game as its much cheaper than purchasing it i US/UK

I'm not gonna buy this on PC but maybe it's time to soon upgrade from 8gb to 16gb ram.

Most games hardly need more than 8gb.

It's not unlocking for me. Using Melbourne via vpn unlimited. Just stays greyed out. Hmm.

If any AMD users are still on 15.7.1 they should at least upgrade to 15.9.1 Beta (15.9 Beta had Battlefront Beta optimizations, and 15.9.1 Beta fixed a driver bug).

The latest beta drivers will still include this optimization, of course:

15.11.1 Beta:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/latest-catalyst-windows-beta.aspx

Yep, OP should update the AMD drivers to 15.11.1 which was posted today, and includes Battlefront optimizations:

Highlights of AMD Catalyst™ 15.11.1 Beta Windows Driver

Performance Optimizations

Includes quality and performance optimizations for the following titles:

Star Wars™: Battlefront
Fallout 4
Assassin's Creed® Syndicate
Call of Duty® : Black Ops III

People really shouldn't shy away from AMD beta drivers, they're about as stable as any of NVIDIA's WHQL drivers, probably more so from my experience.

Oh, I didn't even realize that was a new optimization for Battlefront non-Beta but you are quite right. Definitely get 15.11.1.

On the beta I was getting 80-90 fps with everything on ultra at 1080p, hopefully I will get the same results with the final game here are my specs:

EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0
Intel Core i7 4790k
8 gb of ram at 1600 mhz.

Hmm strange. Sometimes it takes some time to unlock, but it worked flawlessly for me so far. Try a korean server maybe, should work too. And also do not forget to really close your origin client before enabling the vpn connection (pressing 'x' in the upper right corner will just minimize it into your system tray).

Yup, fully closed. Did you need to preload via the vpn or did you already have the files? I preloaded a couple days ago with no vpn. Still won't unlock even with a Korean one. Usually works for me, have done with other games. Weird.

Anyone with an AMD card able to play it? My experience playing in the beta had a ton of hanging, stuttering and lag in menus and after a round. Didn't seem to have these issues in game though, oddly. Doesn't seem like I was the only one with this problem either, so I'm assuming it's a driver issue.

Specs and settings for reference:

3570k
R9 290
16GB Ram

1440p, vsync on, everything maxed

I had 290x crossfire during the beta and it ran beautifully at 1440p everything maxed.

290x crossfire
4770k @ 4.2 ghz
16 gb ram

GTX 980
Win. 10
8GB RAM
i7 3770k

Running 1080p, getting consistent 90 FPS with everything maxed out (anti-aliasing off though since it gives everything an awful blur), cutscenes in the Missions run at 100.

One of the best ports of the year, it's an absolute dream.

Even though I've done this countless time with multiple titles (Fallout 4 being the latest) it does not work for me either. Neither Australia or Korea work for me with a VPN, still shows 19 November as unlock date :(

Anyone want to be a dear and take a screen of the game with FXAA on and then with TAA on?

Sure. Overall I really do not like the TAA blurriness.

Thx a lot mate. You could try and post sharpen it with sweet fx. That would make it cut down the specular aliasing, but would return some of the detail.

PRetty similar to the beta's TAA from what I can see.

Is there a very agressive LOD on that training map with the X-Wings as on PS4? It looks absolutely incredible, but you can notice the LOD change all the time in the rocks.

cant even start the game with 355.60 driver, all the newer ones fk up gsync windowed -.-

I'm on 358.87 and it doesn't seem to have any G-Sync issues so far, unlike the previous 3 releases. Try that one out.

I'm guessing 358.91 should be fine as well, but NVIDIA does tend to break G-Sync every couple of drivers so I'm wary of updating these days.

Yeah, it won't unlock for me with a VPN either. Tried two different Australian ones.

Edit: Nevermind, there it goes. Had to exit origin completely instead of just signing out.

When I upgraded my PC a few months ago I planned on bumping from 8 to 16 but the GAF thread told me I wouldn't see any performance gains in games and everything else I do runs well with 8.

It's not like Battlefront is unplayable with 8gb of ram. I bet most people won't even notice performance differences between 8 and 16gb, because any kind of performance loss seems to be rare. Also let's wait for new benchmarks, DICE improved PS4 performance significantly between beta and now, maybe they did the same for PC.

People using a VPN to play are doing solo missions right? There are like 3 people online at the moment, lol

Edit: Finally got into a walker assault mission.

Disappointed I bought this game on GMG as now they're not even going to get me my key on time and only promise to by the 19th. It would've been better for me to wait until now and use VPN :/ gosh GMG so shitty now.

Wow and it doesn't come with the Jakku DLC either wtf I'm cancelling my GMG order.

2600k@4.5, 970 sli, 8 gb 1333

1080p, all Ultra, 160% resolution scaling (I assume this does the same as driver DSR)

Getting perfect SLI scaling , 70-80% gpu utilization (at 160%) with basically no drops. If I go 200% resolution scaling, I get drops down to the mid 50's. Other than some minor stuttering, this game is amazingly well optimized. And Endor looks fucking awesome.

Also, if you VPN, once you have loaded the game just alt tab out and go back to your normal connection. Otherwise you will get lag.

I hope they fixed the Crossfire bugs by now, but no game every releases with proper Crossfire support so I doubt it. I'll probably have to wait a month for AMD drivers....

In the beta there was menu/load stuttering and shadow flicker that was caused by certain Crossfire setups.

No matter though. I could run it on ultra or whatever with a single 7970.

I ran the beta on a 560ti with 8GB of RAM and it ran everything great at Medium settings and 115% screen resolution at 1080p.

Just not enough people online, at least in europe. But if you wait you can get into some of the smaller game mods, like blast, droid run or Fighter Squadron. Tried to get into walker assault, waited for 10 minutes but only got 12 out of 40 players.

EDIT: Yeah got into walker assault. :)

Oh, I'm not complaining at all. The beta ran fantastically for me.

Performance wise, it´s a top noth port. Fury X here with latest beta drivers, 1440p 115% resolution scale on ultra gets a solid 60fps even in caotic walker assault mode on endor. Frostbite engine is a beast.

I cant seem to figure out how to change the vpn location using their windows app.

I've got a FX-8350, HD7970, and 8GB of ram and I ran the beta on ultra with a steady 60 fps, only ever dipped to ~55 in extreme situations. I hope the final product runs as well.

One thing is for sure, DICE knows how to make Frostbite look incredible and run very well. If only all EA devs were able to work with it as well.

So I won't get a virus/malware from using this? I'm Just checking and it won't get me banned will it? I mean I want to play now but if it's gonna jeopardize my PC I don't wanna do it. I run a tight ship.

Nice, that's about what I'm going to aim for with my regular Fury. TAA looks really blurry in this game and I've never been a fan of FXAA. I think a small resolution scale like that will hide some of the aliasing without sacrificing detail with blur.

Are you running it with AA off? How is the aliasing with just the resolution scale?

No idea, I am using their windows standalone version. And it's pretty easy and self explanatory there.

Buying cheaper via VPN might get you into trouble (just like on steam), I wouldn't recommend it. Buying normally and then unlocking early via VPN will most probably do nothing. But as always no guarantees. Also I wouldn't recommend to do anything of significance while on a 'random' VPN connection, but that should be common sense.

Using a VPN is always going to be a "a use at your own risk" thing. No one here is going to be able to guarantee you that EA or Steam won't crack down on that kind of behavior at some point, regardless of how unlikely it is. I doubt they really give a shit, though, only the retail partners forced to respect street dates really give a damn about a few hours of early access in certain regions.
