They've already made adjustments between trailers.

IMO, the models don't look that different style-wise from those in MvC3, which got away with its looks due to the cast and bringing back a type of gameplay enjoyed by many.

If the roster is true, I wouldn't be surprised if Tung's teammates turned out to be the new protagonists - K' and Maxima did debut in the same team as Benimaru and Shingo...

It's still not enough...they took pride in their sprite work, there's no reason they shouldn't in their 3D work.

Don't think so, he was one of the characters who was supposed to be in XIII but they ran out of time for him iirc. They even released a mock sprite for him.

Ahh I see.

He is, but is story is different between appearances - in 2002 he's one of the Kyo clones, in 2003 he's created with Chizuru's mirror powers.

I think it's available on the Japanese PSN for now.

Ah didn't know he was in 2002 original

In a world where KOF sold better and they could afford to I'm sure they would. But even if they did have more money, if this list is real clearly they are going for quantity of characters over visuals, and I could not be more okay with that. If it plays as well as XIII I don't mind it not looking cutting edge if I have 48 characters.

As I said in the other topic, I'd be all #Team Mexico/#TeamCeximen, if this ended up being real. Tizoc the Griffon, Ramon and Angel would be such an awesome team.

Aww, no Ash? I know that story-wise,
he doesn't exist anymore
, but Mature and Vice are dead and they came back, so why not bring back the cutest guy in fighting games? We also need Vanessa and B. Jenet as well.

You really think this will sell better? There's almost zero hype for this game.

They're going Quantity > Quality yeah...shame...

I can get pantsuit ghosts but i cant get rock from the future? Goddamnit

If this roster list is bogus, which is a high possibility, then there is still a chance that Rock can appear.

He was already appearing in Terry's winning poses prior to XII (he looked around 8-10 years old there) and B. Jenet, Gato and Tizoc have also appeared in mainline KOF entries. Terry was also rocking the Garou outfit and moves in 2003/XI.

So yeah, age shouldn't be an issue for Rock. If he doesn't appear now then SNK might be saving him for a possible Fatal Fury/Garou game or something.

Just noticed that Kyo's new jacket has two sliders on the main zipper, one going upwards and the other downwards oO

Not uncommon. I have a jacket that does this and it's extremely annoying.

Not the jacket I have but here's a sample of one that does this:

No O.Yashiro? 😭 I needs meh rhythmic hallucination!!!

I have major doubts about Yashiro, but DLC soundtrack could be an option for the music, like in TTT2 - as with characters, SNKP has no shortage of good music they can put in a KoF.

So she's like a rule 63/female Terry Bogard?

Apparently she's something of a fan, and if she's the same character that cameos as Kim's student, may have picked up moves from a more prolific teacher - could lead to an interesting mix of moves if she's in.

They went back to teams again?

Mainline KoF never stopped using teams, even if in XII they weren't strictly defined. Maximum Impact is the one KoF sub-series that doesn't use teams by default.

Aww, no Ash? I know that story-wise,
he doesn't exist anymore
, but Mature and Vice are dead and they came back, so why not bring back the cutest guy in fighting games?

Death and rebirth through connection of an entity that's a sort of spirit of the Earth works kind of differently from coming back from
a timeline where you destroyed the future of your ancestor before he got to be your ancestor[/url].

Why Kim's master and wife, why not his 2 sons?

Well, Dong Hwan and Jae Hoon got to be playable in a game where their father wasn't, so there was less of a style overlap - Garou handled it like having a Kim and a EX Kim, in a way.

If the couple that taught Kim is indeed in, I wonder how they'll handle older characters using a style usually associated with a lot of agility.

After Chin's XIII's dialogues I kinda wonder how Chin's wife would fight, but I guess we won't see that anytime soon.

I'd love a fully transforming Tung back though, we haven't seen that since the original Fatal Fury.

where the homie Hwa Jai at?

After the asset recycling that allowed him to exist in XIII, I'm surprised he's not confirmed as a series staple now - gotta wait and see, maybe DLC, considering the XIII DLC precedent?...

Mature and Vice are dead so you have the ghost excuse while Ash was basically never born, he's been fully forgotten.

SNK will have some explaining to do if Geese is in the game though. Ghost Geese?

The last time they went for quality > quantity XII happened

There's no winning for them here

I wouldn't call 12 quality by any means, but I would say 13 was amazing...wish they just added a few more characters, like the supposed DLC ones...and then called it a day. I'd rebuy that game for PS4 tomorrow if it was out.

I didn't mean to say that at all haha. I just meant if had been a higher selling series overall, SNK would have more money to make it look nicer. Sadly I don't think this will sell better.

Well, these are characters they have been working with for years and years now. For me at least, if the characters play as well as they have in the past, then a large roster does equal quality for me. I can totally understand people disagreeing with that though.

I think he never died in the KOF-verse?
Or they'll just bring back Nightmare Geese.
The explanation for Geese is that unlike the Fatal Fury universe he never died in the KoF universe.
I thought they were one and the same.
Their explanation can be "just because" and fans will still love and thank them for Geese.
Can't wait to forget how to do Deadly Rave midways again

Geese shows up in outlaw villian fatal fury team's story mode in kof 2003. He is not dead in the kof universe.

The interesting thing is that if the 50 character count is true and the final game looks a decent bit better than it did in the first trailer then that's a fairly impressive output for about 2 or 3 years worth of work.

That would mean that they could make fighting games for their other IPs (which mostly have way smaller rosters than KOF) rather quickly moving forward.

That old hiring ad did say they were making a new mainline KOF and SamSho.

Nah. There is no need for mainline Samsho unless it like an upgraded version of Tenka, which is CVS version of Samsho.

I mean visually

Still, that's sorta my point. It is because of the art that XII exists in its current form. Because of the art XII had its small roster that everyone bitched about. Because of the art characters were missing moves. Because of the art SNK had to release XII to not bleed so much money because of the development time instead of just releasing what XIII ended up as. Hell even in XIII it is obvious they were cutting corners in various places to not have to draw that many new frames.

I'd be fine with them moving forward with a new numbered entry with new characters, systems etc.

SamSho x Last Blade would be sweet too.

ARE YOU OKAY? HOUOU KYAKU!

Why Alice, why not B. Mary?

Why Kim's master and wife, why not his 2 sons?

Fuck this game.

J/K

Well technically different timeline. In KoF Rock and the two Kim children are still young.

I thought that was because they were reusing sprites, it's implied he didn't age. Around NESTS Saga Rock is still a kid.

Rock was a kid during NESTS saga but we are quite a ways away from that now.

Ash's saga has also come to an end and now a new story arc is starting with new designs and further story progression.

The character creation process for 12/13 was a complete waste. The pay off was just not there. The graphics/animations that got into those games were nice, but the games lost a LOT of personality in the process of making those high quality sprites.

Limited win poses, ZERO pre-fight animations, ZERO character specific pre-fight intros, limited move lists (where's my CLAAKU SPAAKU??), small roster that took forever to update, LOTS of head and palette swap characters (Hwa-Jai? Lol, hardly a fan favorite.)

That art style looked nice, but killed the charm of the series IMO.

Hopefully, the new 3D engine can inject some of that classic KOF personality back into the game, even if it doesn't LOOK as nice as KOF 13.

Not to mention the only new characters in XIII were a head/pallete swap and a character that barely moved and isn't even playable. KoFXII and XIII looked nice but the games suffered a lot for it's sake. This game on the other hand looks to be the opposite, doesn't look so hot but we'll get a billion characters as usual with a bunch of new shit and hopefully the returning characters not having gimped movesets - Iori seems to have both his flame and claw moves which is awesome for starters.
