Cooter

Lacks the power of instantaneous movement
Yeah, dips messed up my shoulders eventually. Of course I was finishing with 4 plates so that may have been the real reason.

Congrats, Faiz! Isn't Disney supposed to have decent fitness centers at their resorts? Unless it's more of a time/family issue for you.

They are nice, but I've never really bothered before; also I think it's mainly cardio, weight machines, and Dumbbells but I don't really know. Usually we only go for 5-6 days at a time and I just take the week off. It is mostly a time/family issue, yeah. In the past, most days we would be at the parks for rope drop and not come back till after closing, and by then I'm dead tired. Now with a kid I just don't want to leave them on vacation. When my son is older and a little more self sufficient it might be different - but then we'll probably be back to a sun up to sun down park schedule.

Still... 10 days is a long time. I may try to sneak in a couple sessions so I don't have such a hard time getting back into the groove afterwards, even if it's just machines and no barbell work.

Is that the one at Kidani or Jambo? AKL is our home resort and second half of this stay is at Kidani.

The one at Jambo. I'm trying to find pictures of a barbell and I'm only seeing smith machines so I might be wrong. Also, 10 days at an animal kingdom resort is a baller move.

First five days is actually at Polynesian with a Magic Kingdom View. Then we transfer to AKL for part 2. 🤘🏻 This is our 10th anniversary trip so we're splurging a little more than we usually would lol.

This is the most technically perfect deadlift I've ever performed. Weight isn't important. The goal was speed and technique. This is what I learned from Donnie Thompson. https://youtu.be/e2zhFCh53ls

What's going on there at the start? Looks like you're practising use of the force, but you tire of the weight's insolence so decide to rip it from the floor instead.

Unrelated. Don't normally post about my lifting session, but there were three lifts I was going to deload if I couldn't hit my reps today and by some miracle I managed to get all three. My last one (squat) was a bit sketchy on the final set, but I checked the vid and I hit well below parallel, so I'm taking it.

That's part of what Donnie showed me. Stretch the supinated hand down several times then leave it stretched, reach down just enough to get the grip, and setup from there. Look at the bend in the bar before it comes up. All the slack is out, it's incredibly tight and I don't even feel the weight as I come up.

Really interesting. Cheers.

Was very interesting indeed brolic.

Today was deadlift and I just didn't know how it'd go. So glad I went. Felt like an animal. Hit 3x310, 3x355 and 3x400. Followed up with 4 sets of 10 on dips (too easy now), and hit all my pendlay rows (185-200) easily. End of this 3s week.

Dip are great but they can fuck you up bad if you do too much weight or too much frequency.

I stick with bodyweight dips to failure and never below parallel.

My shoulders have been injury free. Bodyweight dips are really enough, especially if you start messing with gymnastic rings.

Look at gymnastic progressions if you want to maintain shoulder health when doing them. They spend tons of time getting shoulders ready and strong before even doing bodyweight.

Deadlifting in the morning, gonna give some thought to this technique Brolic is showing.

Also, just found out my deck needs to come down, Brolic, think I could rent you out for like 5 minutes? Lol

Damn, that deadlift is on point Brolic. Is that something you'll be doing on the regular now?

Not sure I follow. If you're talking about the setup, yes.

There's more to it than the stretch, you also need to pull, the slack out correctly. It took me a long time to get down like this.

Whoa, are you sure about that? That's like using an elephant gun to kill a fly.

Your whole house is coming down.

Lol

Thinking about getting replacment shoes for my chucks for lifting.

Am I better off getting Olympic lifting shoes or flat shoes like the reebok crossfit lite tr?

Is deadlifting in Olympic shoes a problem for people?

I don't deallift in oly shoes. Just feels weird lifting on a wedge. Just get both type of shoes and your problem is solved.

Just stick with a flat shoe if that's been working out for you. I don't think it's worth getting weightlifting shoes if you're only going to use it for one or two lifts.

FWIW I used the CF Lite TRs when I was still doing 'powerlifting' and I didn't like it. Not enough grip, felt loose in the toebox area, and didn't feel stable to me. Didn't live up to the hype and I would rather buy another pair of chucks (high tops instead of low tops).

If you have disposable income, buy the two shoes (CF Lite TRs and a weightlifting shoe) and come to your own conclusion like I did.

Is it okay to lift in running shoes? I have a pair of running Adidas that I've been using instead of something with a flat sole. I don't see how they can be a problem has long as you're aren't raising your heels during a deadlift or something like that.

I wouldn't. http://stronglifts.com/weight-lifting-shoes-squats-deadlifts/

Wrong Shoes: Running Shoes. The air & gel filling is great for reducing impact shock from running. But bad for lifting. Running shoes will limit your strength & prevent good lifting technique.
  • Unstable. Soles are squishy so you can’t predict their behavior on each rep. This makes it harder to control your technique and lift properly.
  • Power Loss. The soles absorb the force generated against the floor instead of directing it towards moving the weight. You lose strength.
  • Dangerous. Higher risk of injury, especially with heavier weights, since the soles make it hard to balance yourself and are less stable.

IIRC, Alan Thrall gave an analogy that lifting in running shoes is like lifting with foam cushions attached to your feet.

I know I don't post here as often as I should but hoy damn, Brolic. Nice pull. Cooter bicep and Edge's Abs - excellent shit guys, holy hell.

Speaking of injuries I have a bad rotator in my right shoulder I've been keeping at bay with cuff exercises 3x a week. I only use 1 plate with dips and I always try to keep my elbows pinned back, shoulders down and knees in front of me to keep me upright. For lower chest I do lean forward and flare the elbows and that is where I feel my shoulder the most.

My tennis elbow in my right arm I've almost eliminated - aside from my forearm stretches I've been running a long blade screwdriver up and down my forearms like a foam roller but I don't roll it. I apply deep pressure and drag the blade across to help pull the muscles and break up scar tissue. 5 minutes 3x a week and it feels so good.

I also hit 215 this morning in the buck, no food in me and I'm happy with it. Progress slowed the past few weeks as I went on a new injection regimen for my diabetes so I didn't want to go crazy while I got used to my new eating/injection cycle but I'm dialed in good now so I can continue to press forward.

Now that I got away from daily slow release insulin and on mealtime insulin I will work on my carb intake some more now that I have a bit more freedom with it.

Don't know how much I can expect to gain between now and next spring but I'm going full throttle. I would like to be 230 but I'll take what I can get. 6'3" and finally don't feel skinny anymore. 230 is my goal and I've got my eye on it. Feeling good, my meds are dialed in and I'm ready to throw some winter work in. Super excited!

Like Choco said above, go find a good pair of lifting shoes. The difference is night and day. I use to lift in Skechers that have a curved bottom (it's supposed to improve calf strength but I don't know if that's really true) and didn't think of it. When those wore out, I got a pair of flat lifting shoes and it improves stability so much. Especially for exercises like barbell squats.

Yup. I don't have lifting shoes but I go barefoot for all of my compound lifts: deads, squats, ohp, etc. Unsure if shoes are better but I prefer less between my feet and the floor.

I'll occasionally switch up ohp and do them on my knees, too. Entirely different experience.

It's kind of funny how I'll feel like I'm totally grinding a squat rep and then watch the video and it looks perfectly fine.

Finally back from vacation with very little workouts :(. Didn't gain any weight (probably because of the 6 to 10 miles we walked in Taiwan and Japan everyday). Ready to bulk 5 more lbs and then cut! http://imgur.com/ZWlFK2Y

Just catching up and you guys are killing it as usual either by DL 300+ like it's just the bar or looking fly in general. Glad to be back!

Jesus, that sounds awful once you start getting into heavier squats/DL. I think I'll be picking up a pair of lifting shoes on Black Friday then. Do you have a favorite (preferably under $100)?

http://i.imgur.com/GsDQ6Wl.jpg - this was taken sometime last week.

Looking good Navi. Those arms are beastly. How long have you been training?

Wow... So I was getting ready for a wedding party tonight and I realised that I look pretty damn good. Hadn't really seen myself dressed up for a good while. Caught myself in the mirror and I'm now quite broad but with a very tight waist. Had loads of compliments since we got here too.

It's been three weeks since I've lifted anything. Wrist injuries suck. Luckily the doctor prescribed me some stuff and it's feeling better already. I hope to be benching and dead lifting by next week.

been killing cardio for the last three weeks, though. feels pretty good to improve your time every day :)

Had a shit work out today - dropped a rep on my top set of deadlifts and just felt weak overall. Not terribly surprising since I'm coming off the two worst nights of sleep this week, but hard to rationalize it and keep spirits up. Golfers elbow was really flaring up today as well. Oh well, thanksgiving dinner at work on Monday then one more day till vacation.

Been like this the past few weeks working 12s every day. Just 2 more weeks of this and I'm off for the winter and down to one job which I can hopefully make full time eventually.

Get some rest. Take a deload week if you haven't in a while. Recharge and come back the next week hard!
