The best mobile game is...

Jetpack Joyride.

I'm not talking about ports to the mobile platform. Games like Chrome Trigger and Dragon Quest VIII don't count.

I'm talking about those games made specifically for mobile phones. Those which actually take advantage of a lack of buttons. Games which can literally be played in one minute bursts, but also satisfy hour-long play sessions if you are so inclined or compelled.

Jetpack Joyride, by Halfbrick, has it all. Quality visuals, attention to detail, fan service (the good kind), a deep sense of satisfaction, accessibility, quality unlocks and tight gameplay.

It was originally released on 2011 for iOS, but has since been released on most major platforms, and I am currently playing it again for the third time on my Galaxy S6.

It is a pure joy. The whole package reeks of quality. There is a tangible level of skill required to succeed at the game, and whilst there are IAPs to help you along, they are entirely unobtrusive and optional. A mission-based format keeps you engrossed as you rack up your coins and unlock gadgets, costumes and jetpacks. All complimented by subtle, wonderful animation and excellent music.

I love it.

It's not perfect. There could be a wider variety of missions, and there could be more unlocks. But it does come close, as far as playing games on my phone is concerned.

This new on-the-go, bite-sized mobile gaming genre has been inundated with titles of varying quality. Stage-based games such as Angry Birds and Cut The Rope are great examples of decent mobile titles that have taken the world be storm. Other great examples might be Deep Loot, Ridiculous Fishing and 10000000. All great games.

But Jetpack Joyride is the only game that has me coming back for more time after time. It has endless appeal.

Long live the king.

I had a lot of fun playing 'Steven Universe: Attack the Light'. Even if you aren't a fan of the show, it's a solid Paper Mario-style role-playing game, and I always recommend it for those who are looking for something fun to play on the road.

Pvz is the only mobile friendly game I've ever enjoyed. The rest are pretty shit. Mobile controls and anything made for them bore me.

The Room series.
I LOVE The Room series. Particularly 3. In fact I thought it was incredible. But it ends. It stayed on my iPad for about 4 days, until I finished it.

Which goes against what I consider a timeless mobile game.

Look into Amazon Underground. My son loves Jetpack Joy Ride, but part of it is because all the IAP are completely free. Amazon has a handful of games they do this for on android devices including their own brand of tablets.

I really like Jetpack Joyride, but I don't understand why they added the rolling inventory system, I'd like everything to always be available in the stash. I'm currently only missing one achievement on the iOS version because I haven't been able to buy the rainbow jetpack yet.

Jetpack Joyride is an ok game, but there's not enough depth, imo.
I'm a fan of Hearthstone too. But does a mobile game need depth? Some of the most critically acclaimed mobile games, like Ridiculous Fishing, have very little depth. Endless, compelling arcadey gameplay rules for me on mobile. Also, no need to be online.

Yeah, I know Amzon Underground. But, unlocking everything is the most fun part of the game. It takes away the majority of the fun.

Sorry, but the correct answer was Super Hexagon.

Or, if we're talking about mainstream titles, Cut the Rope.
I would agree if you could get away with playing Super Hexagon at work without drawing attention, and if Cut the Rope had hundreds more levels.

My votes goes to Deemo, Game Dev Story, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, Slingo Supreme, Song Summoner, and The World Ends With You.

That's quite an odd criteria to judge a game by.

I also agree on Super Hexagon being best, maybe tied with King of Dragon Pass

That's totally fine, in the end it comes down to personal preference, people are looking for different things in their mobile games.

I find Jetpack Joyride too shallow to keep my interest for long. If I need a timewaster for short play bursts, I like puzzle games like Spelltower or Cat Picross more.

So hearthstone then or ftl, or carcassone, starbase orion, threes, or even rayman jungle run if you want to keep it simple.

Jj wouldn't make my top 100 list.

I'm just going to say Solitaire.

Mobile gaming was a fun novelty at first, now it's not even worth my time.

Edit: Alright, mobile gaming still isn't worth my time, but I forgot about Super Hexagon, that game is legit. I still regularly play that one.

The best version of Final Fantasy Tactics is a solid choice. I would consider that to be an all-time great game. It is also has a simple, yet attractive, visual style; so it has aged incredibly gracefully (and will most certainly continue to do so).

I'm a big fan of the Kairosoft games, especially Grand Prix Story.

I am also a fan of the new FF Gacha game Brave Exvius, although it is still new and doesn't have nearly as much content as a mature title like Record Keeper does. I like the fact that it manages to incorporate things like actual dungeon exploration into a mobile title.

Looking forward to where they take that game.

Any game which requires an online connection prevents it from being the best. Although I do love Hearthstone and Carcassonne. I hated Threes. But the Rayman games are certainly up there.

Basically, if you can use one digit, and play it for a single minute at a time and still be productive, it's winning.

On windows mobile i had orions legend of wizards which was a card game with a very good single player campaign where you build buildings to unlock cards. That is my most played mobile game unfortunately i haven't found another card game with a good single player campaign.
i thought Plants vs zombies was pretty good also.

Another contender: Pinball Arcade.
Looks really good, runs really well and current physics are actually amazing. Surprisingly close, especially for a mobile game.
Having tons of fun with it on toilet breaks :p

Mobile games rarely keep my attention for some reason. The ones I have spent time with are Hearthstone and The Room series. A new game called Freeblade came out rather recently and I have been playing that a lot. It's a game I look forward to playing when I get a chance.

Nah. Not even the same ballpark as The Room, Sorcery, 80 Days, Device 6, Galactic Keep, Monument Valley, and a bunch of other games
