Here is hoping the NX is backwards compatible!

I don't want to get a Wii U just for this

Do it for Lin. Lin and Zelda.

Edit: And the rest of the great games on WiiU :3

Only a few days left now.. The wait is killing me but I don't want to look at any more streams or videos D:

I'll never understand why so many people on neogaf are so obsessed with reviews, to the point that they would lose all of their hype over a game they've been waiting for years or cancel their preorder if reviews aren't around 90. It's so weird to give so much power to someone else's point of view, which in this case doesn't even have any special qualification compared to any of said users, instead of waiting to form their own opinion based on a direct test of what's being discussed.

I usually respect reviews, and i like discussing their content, but i also don't really give a crap about them, aside for those of 2-3 websites i really trust. In this particular case i'm expecting "low" scores (78-83 meta), but not because i think the game won't be that great or because i think that's the score it deserves. And scores in that ballpark (or lower) wouldn't change what i think the game will be, not in the slightest.

I mean, after stuff like Tropical Freeze or Nier (or hundreds of other titles) should be pretty obvious that they aren't gospel, and that the user can often disagree with the content of an article.

I'm expecting scores in the 5-7 range

because I'm jaded

I doubt something like this has ever happened, though. The people who keep cancelling their pre-orders etc are the ones that are on the edge anyway.

Just like simple teaser trailers or a single glowing preview can hype people up to insane degree, so can low scores affect their hype - sometimes to the point of "maybe I'll wait a bit on this one" if they're low enough vs the individual's expectations. It's just how we are.

I think the answer is fairly obvious. Games are fairly pricey luxury propositions and people want to be careful with their money. Especially in a year with a nice bumper crop of games, people aren't necessarily as starved for games as they have been in the past years.

That said, your example is being silly. Almost one cancels because a game doesn't hit 90 (or some arbitrary score). But if a game has reports of a weak narrative, technical problems or other such issues, it might be wise for some people to hold off.

People are concerned for reviews because we want the game to be shown in a nice light to Non-Fans.

I mean, I can see Neogaf if the games gets a 6/10 or averages below 80...

"Pfft, I knew the Wii U could never make a game so grand!"

"Imagine how bad Zelda U will be!"

"All them Wii U fans stuck with this shite while us Godly fellows play Fallout and The Witcher 3"

Hell, my friend will laugh at me if this gets below 80 and say its bad...he may be joking, but others won't be.

I couldn't care less about the scores of a game I'm already dead set on playing. I'll have my own opinion of it soon enough. And like you said, those scores are far from gospel.

It would be nice to have some positive discussion surrounding the game leading up to its release though.

It happened though, i read this a lot in review/preview threads and it's often but sadly not always ironical.

It's great to get all hyped about positive reviews, but i've been burned before because of this, while i found hidden gems in games that got lower scores or lower hype (or both). Then of course there are tons of cases where i completely agree with them or with the metascore, i just don't think people should lose sleep over this.

if a game has reports of technical problems or other such issues, it might be wise for some people to hold off.
In fact i never said they are useless, and this is actually one of the reasons why i read them. Although i must say that websites/yt channels like df, nxgamer and other exist, which are usually more prepared and do more in depth stuff about these issues, while more than one broken game has gotten very high scores in the past (Skyrim PS3 anyone?).

Lol this is probably the correct answer hahaha

Agreed.

So... Are we in PAL land poor retail users gonna be f***ed?
Because is there still no word about the data packs?

Haven't checked the news last week, but if still no news, I feel like they didn't managed to release the data packs in multiple languages. I will still take them in english for sure but if this is because of the i18n programming and/or the eShop, this is shameful.

this is true.

but it does make it hard to talk about the game. Look at the one negative review from the japanese release than people took as the end all be all gospel on this game.

I want this to review well and/or atleast sell well because I don't want monolithsoft to be stuck in a situation like with squaresoft or Namco where they never get to make quite the same game they wanted to make because what they want to make doesn't equal sales. And so we might not get something like xenoblade from them again. Especially now that iwata is gone and he was the one that pushed for these type of games.

Yeah, this. Because this game requires quite a few people to buy an underselling console so if it gets less Tha positive reviews, people won't bother and will "Wait till NX" like they keep saying.

But in order to allow Monolith to keep pursuing their dreams, they need to show their games are wanted.

The Birthday Skeleton
I'm existing this to be in the mid to high 80's. It's important to get good reviews to push over the edge the ones who are in the fence about it.

So I'm trying to beat the original Xenoblade before thursday, just made it to
Agniratha
with 95h of playtime. There's no way I'm gonna be able to finish it on time, is it?

You should def finish it by Thursday, your more than halfway through the game.

Be prepared for some holy shit moments tho. Your entering the climax of the story.

All ready, system and game ordered. Glad to see Monolith go back to more overt sci-fi themes, though a shame to hear the story is apparently thin by Xeno standards.

Its not necessarily thin, its just used in a different way, a way that really can only be used in video games, just makes sure you do all the affinity quests aswell as story quests and explore the world and read all the flavor text.

Just because someone says they cancelled their pre-order, doesn't mean they actually did. It also doesn't mean they were hyped for the game anyway. Hell, it doesn't even mean that they had pre-ordered the game at all!

There are people who do this stuff, sure, but I'm gonna go ahead and just say that it happens far less than you seem to think.

I for one believe that the reviews will be quite generous. It's a giant RPG, not many reviewers will believe they can get away with playing the game a few hours without even learning the controls or seeing most of the game, like they did in Zombi U, W101 and Devil's Third.

I have an SE on order with BestBuy. Guess/hope it will come next week sometime.

I actually don't have very high expectations for this game. I enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles on 3DS/Wii (I have both versions) but still haven't finished it. I mainly just like the world and the style... Lame I suppose? X's world looks even more amazing to explore, and messing around with the mechs looks fun. Not really expecting much more beyond that. I rarely get far in RPG's anyway due to the time sink required.

I have already pre-ordered my copy from Amazon but all these talks of the game being out early mean I'm gonna have to make a daily visit to FNAC on my way to work. Fingers crossed!

On reviews, I fully expect this game to be around high 70s/low 80s once the dust settles. I think a lot of reviewers wont get past the huge number of MMO-like fetch quests (which I have no problem with, by the way).

Nothing on the German eShop either. Did a search for 'xenoblade' and only found the original game and XBX, and didn't see anything about data packs on the page for XBX either.

FUCK YEAH.

POSITIVITY

If this game averages in 70s I'll eat my fucking...words. And cry a lot.

I hope so, it looks like a labor of love. Seems like they put real effort into making this game take advantage of the system and giving us a gem. I don't want to jinx anything, but I will understand if it doesn't review incredibly well here simply because of its genre but who knows.

Aussie gaffers, Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii) is currently 50% off, making it $13 on the eShop. Owning this also gives you $13 off Xenoblade Chronicles X, it's effectively one of the greatest JRPG's of all time for free.

Read what you wrote. It's not just money, specially when it comes to spunking a few hundred quid for just one game.

Spunking quid?

Also, I sniffed around Best Buy during Black Friday and found 10$ eshop point cards for 8.50. So I bought 70$ worth for just under 60$. Good to get this game at a little discount.

It might not be a very wise financial decision to make, but yeah it's just money. Money comes, money goes. They lose some money, they get the console and the game.

Still no idea what you're trying to say, if you want to say something, don't be so cryptic about it.

e: only got a couple of hours of sleep last night tho lol, maybe it's just me

There's nothing to be cryptic about, it's pretty black and white. I think it was a ridiculous bit of advice to give someone.

Lmao it's not advice, I'm just having fun. I'm sure thekiddfran is an adult, capable of making their own financial decisions. No need to take it so seriously.
