Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

They make great games tho

Oh shit marry me Summer Glau, I'll play and enjoy every single Level 5 game. Even the ungodly White Knight Chronicles duo.

Witcher 3 is arguably bigger than FF7 world. This can be done. Episodic sucks.

That new xenoblade game has a world like 8 times the size of Witcher 3, and I'm pretty sure monolithsoft is a smaller entity than square. As previously mentioned, level 5's NNK was also a beautiful, fully realized world. Neither episodic

If you don't like it, don't buy it. This isn't being done as a public service, it's a product for retail and they can make any way they see fit.

It is correct to complain. If a product doesn't sell well, a company can reach the wrong conclusion of why it doesn't sell well if fans don't complain why they didn't buy it.

Of course it can be done.

Question is, does Square think it's worth the investment of such a massive AAA project when they can do this episodic crap and probably make just as much money from die hard fans.

Weird considering FF7 remake is like one of the safest and guaranteed easy money games they could possibly do.

Haven't Square said for the longest time that the remake would just be too expensive? All that shit that used to be 2D backgrounds, they now have to render as unique art assets in HD for the length of sixty hours of gameplay. Then they have to rewrite an enormous script, localize it, and record every line of dialogue in multiple languages. And somewhere along they way they have to figure out how to turn a turn-based RPG into a modern action game and somehow differentiate it from their other action RPGs, including one Final Fantasy XV - which, by the way, they have also sunk hundreds of millions of dollars into over the course of a decade, and it has yet to bear any fruit, nor will it for some time. On top of all that, now imagine, hypothetically, the cost of blowing up that rinky-dink world map into a fully-fledged open world.

$$$

Games cost money. They cost a shit ton of money. As long as this isn't 20 parts and each episode or whatever is long enough to justify its length, I'm okay with this. I really don't think there was any other way.

I hope the project still turns out good but... I'm not as hyped anymore. :(

No, it isn't. The original game is massive. The episodic nature of this indicates that either a full game would have cuts in content or would take an extremely long time to come out.

People have some right to be upset and there are legitimate concerns (overworld) but a vast amount of this thread is an utter joke.
Some people are concerned that SE is going to use this as an attempt to get more money from consumers and would rather wait for the entire game. We still need more details though.

Man....they are going to be wasting so much time on trying to get it to look like all the current FF games. Look what has happened with FF15. They waste time sending people out to take pictures of rocks and food on a plate instead of worrying more about the actual game.

To me, seeing as how FF7 was done way back on PS1, they pretty much had a blank slate on how this game could of looked.

Hell, why not take these characters everyone fell in love with and finally realize that style in 3D.

Of course now the game has to be episodic now. We wouldn't of got it till 2020 probably.

Advent Children ruined this franchise in my opinion with what some people expect with the visuals.

Eh, I'm for it. Yeah I'll probably pay $20-30 more but fuck it. Or maybe they'll surprise us with a decent season pass like most episodic games.

Come to think of it,what Level-5 achieved with Ni No Kuni was really fucking impressive.

A fully complete visually varied and polished world.Maybe even the most beautiful in any RPG.

Maybe that Yokai watch money is helping with dev costs.Idk how they managed it.
:) Hell yeah, I'm super excited for the sequel. Just hope they nail the combat this time around.

Not to turn this into a Level 5 vs. Square thread, but if you are looking for a game that is going to have a ton of environmental diversity, towns, characters, amazing production values and length... watch this trailer.

"The reunion at hand may bring joy, it may bring fear, but let us embrace whatever it brings."

It was there, all along.

The most amusing thing is the plethora of doomsday scenarios being invented on the spot, quoted and taken as fact. Or people going "THAT'S IT, MY GAMING LIFE IS OVER" like they're about to dramatically die in a shakespearian play or some shit like that. The whole "My childhood is ruined" shtick over and over and over. More than the news for the game, we're gonna have this song and dance at every piece of information for it.

Some bullshit. This seriously has me heated. Be careful what you wish for brehs.

Edit: I have played far too many large scale games with tons of voicework cutscenes FMV and landmass to be fed some line about how it's impossible to redo FF7 this gen without splitting it up into little fucking pieces. So miss me with that bullshit, and shame on the gamers pretending that it's true. You guys will swallow some of the WILDEST shit ever man.

"Just when they thought I was done"

I'm going to wait for clarification on this. If Square actually splits FFVII into, say, 4 parts, then I just don't think it's going to be worth it.

What does this is even mean? Anyone?
1-multiple part like xiii ?
2- or like the original, crisis core remake and dirge of cerberus remake ?

Ni no Kuni.
Which is one of the reasons why I liked it so much. It was a total package RPG in an era where everything was gimped in one way or another.
I so need to play that game, even tho the whimsical thing is not really my cup of tea. I do fell in love with the world map the moment I first saw it, tho. That alone is a reason to get it. Still have my PS3 in the closet, so I'm set. Maybe it's a good christmas break game? I planned on playing Suikoden I, but with NNK 2 being announced maybe I should swap.

Yeah they really do deliver.

I mean I can understand why this announcement would cause controversy, but there are people here acting like somebody just killed their child , it's sad.

And you're looking down YOUR nose at people for hyperbole?

This is biggest hyperbole of the entire thread. Can you even read the posts from atop your throne your highness?

You sound like a perfect corporate tool. "We don't care that you are diehard fans that made us big and buy our shit. We only care about even MORE cash and control. Don't have internet? Buy an 360!" :X

Very far from it but we're unfortunately living in a capitalist world. They do whatever they think will make them the most money. The only power you have is to not purchase their product.

They don't owe you anything. If they shit on fans, they lose sales. Probably not enough for them to care though.

Yeah, I don't know why people are so willing to believe it would be impossible to recreate FF VII's world, just as they were willing to believe "towns are too hard to make in HD" in FF XIII.

It's clearly possible, just not by Square-Enix, apparently.

+1

The anime styling would have allowed for such an easy and forgiving update of 7's colourful cartoon crazy world, too.

This was my preferred direction years ago. Don't pour your resources into making it look like Advent Children with every pore and scratch meticulously rendered. Instead make it a stylistic triumph. Try to hit the concept art. It would also lend more naturally to the playful charm of the original game.

But nope. Full AAA Advent Children. Nobody does it better.

Just yesterday I was daydreaming about the day in roughly 5 years when I would be holding a shrink wrapped copy of my remade childhood in my hands, just imagining the epic, beautiful, re-imagined world and characters that are all stored on the very disc inside the case. A disc that would reignite emotional memories that have have long laid dormant in the recesses of my mind, in wait of being revisited for over half my life.

And today I realize that day will never come.

I'm sure at the end of the day, most people will just be glad it was released

I wouldn't be so sure about that man. Hopefully you are right.

There may be advantages like a continuation of Final Fantasy's VII ending but overall sounds bad.

Unless they are episodic like Starcraft but I doubt it.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
A funny thought? Since we'll have to wait months for each episode to be released - imagine how much grinding people will do in the meantime. Level 99 and maxed out limit breaks (if that shit even exists) before leaving Midgar!

Unless, of course, they've capped the levels like they did with FFXIII.

Size means absolutely nothing.

The amount of variety in the enviornments and mini games is absolutely staggering. There's a reason why they didnt make this game 10 years ago when people were begging them for it and there's a reason why they arent just going to charge you 60 dollars for it.

Do those have the same variety in terms of towns, explorable buildings, and a world map, all while being made with a modestly-sized development team?

MGSV shouldn't be on that list, and the other games reuse a lot of assets. FF7 has many different environments and interiors
