Yakuza 5 |OT| Rage Your Dreams

Fantastic OT! In Act 2 of 4 now, and I'm trying to go in blind so I'll be refraining from the OT until I start this. Although I did catch that Kiryu and Akiyama gif and DAMN the wait just got even harder.

So is this game like Sleeping Dogs?
Could use another Asian GTA

I'd take most of the mainline Yakuza games over SD, but am probably in the minority. Wasn't a big fan of that game.

Yakuza has more RPG elements and is more of a straight up brawler (w. dodging and special attacks called heat actions). Longer cutscenes and sometimes walls of text aren't uncommon in the Yakuza series either, with periods where there isn't a lot of action and whereas things are more focused on world building and introducing characters.

The Yakuza series also has more mini games and optional side stories that continue from game to game if that interests you too, which is one of the really neat things about the series.

Go to bed early to play in the morning, or play late and get up really tired for work.

Decisions.. decisions..

Game of the Year in December as a digital-only release for a dead console. Hyped as hell to start this... after my final final on Thursday. :(

I wish we'd gotten the marketing they did for Yakuza 4.

They don't even need umbrellas.

You're right, Sega sort of just crapped this one out with only 4 days notice. Likely because it's serving an already niche audience on an old platform with a digital only release. Come to think of it, it's kind of crazy this actually made it overseas considering the circumstances.

Hopefully we'll see some of that vigor renewed in the marketing for Yakuza 0.

Quick question : It's better to play Yakuza 4 before, right ? (I finished all of them except 4 and Dead Souls)
I mean, I haven't played five but I imagine with the returning characters it'll be advantageous to finish 4 before moving on to 5. It's not like 5 seems like a Zone of the Enders 2 situation where it changes the gameplay up completely. 4 is still a fun game.

Yes, play 4 first. Still my favorite, though I think I'm in minority there. But a lot of the characters are introduced in that one for 5.

Also, Dead Souls is fun in its own way. But you can keep it for later. There's a lot of awesome in Dead Souls.

I bought Xenoblade X but I'll easily toss it aside for Yakuza 5. I've waited TOO LONG FOR THIS MOMENT.

Does it go live at midnight EST? Just wanna get some exam studying done before it goes live

EDIT: Good lord it's been 2-3 hours and it's installing sitting at 29% now. Fuck

Been such a long journey but we finally get to play this game. Awesome!

It has been about 4 years or so since I played the Yakuza 3 and 4 main story. Lots of the details in the story are going to be a little blurry so I wonder if I should watch the recaps.

I hope it unlocks at a reasonable time tonight too. If not, will have to wait until tomorrow evening

Yes, watch the recaps. The game really assumes you remember what is happening and know who the many of the main and sub characters are.

The quote about it being the best plot on the original post is amusing. Maybe the translation guides just mess it up, but the plot was over the top, not in an awesome tiger punching way but in a 'is this game mocking itself' sort of way.

Can't wait to play it in English finally

Ugh, not investing in a hard drive was a mistake. Ah well, it's not like I was gonna play anything else on my PS3 other than this; especially now that I got Xenoblade and Fallout.

I feel like any hype I can generate is nowhere near enough.

Have yet to play a Yakuza game but that trailer for Zero has me hyped and i want more Yakuza to come here so im absolutely buying this and trying it out.

Should i watch any kind of a recap or is each game kind of a stand alone title that has ties to other games but can be enjoyed without knowing everything?
