"subsidized Rift hardware"
Did they originally say they wouldn't sell the Rift at a loss? Is this news?

Anyone think at Sony's press conference they will announce the price for PSVR and then that might determine the Oculus price tomorrow?
Probably because there wasn't any real content for the dev kits aside from tech demos and underdeveloped indies. The few real games with any kind of support were usually a bitch to get working right.
This will be different. It will be a much more polished user experience with a lot more polished content to actually dive into.
I would imagine they'll try and get some pre-orders shipped out before Chinese New Year (February 8).They gave February 1 as deadline for Kickstarters to sign up for their free Rift, so that's my guess on ship date: February 1
This is a rather fair assessment.
So what content will be available day one besides what ships with it?
Can I even use my Elite Horizons Steam version with it or is that not compatible?
I bet you $5 they spend more time talking about the facebook oculus store than the hardware tomorrow, and a load of social integration software rather than AAA titles.
If sony announce Knack VR the wars already won.

at 90fps minimum, yup.

So to be an enjoyable experience, do you have to run near or at the 90fps consistently?
What Facebook Oculus store? They are using Oculus Home, based on what they are using for the Samsung GearVR; they've already shown what it will look like.
Also, Facebook really has almost nothing to do with Oculus, they are taking a hands-off approach for the first few years.
Frontier recommends a 980ti for Elite Dangerous VR, which you can do already. Tomorrow should have a huge list of day one content.

People have this notion of Facebook being an evil megacorp when it reality they are no more evil than any other media congolomerate such as Sony or Microsoft.
Elite Horizons stated they won't be compatible with CV1 at launch.
CV1 doesn't support SDK 0.6 and they won't be on the new SDK on time for reasons unknown.
980, not 980 ti
It's odd to see people swing into these threads and make declarations that reveal they haven't been following VR at all and have no idea what they're talking about.
Or maybe I'm just a burnt by the xbox one reveal still, I think as a gaming forum we often project what we want and forget that for many people VR is going to be about social experiences, and for Oculus it'll be about returning that investment to Facebook over the next few years. I'm sure they'll have a 'megaton' of sorts but I wouldn't be surprised if the focus of the presentation was on social interaction rather than gaming, especially given the sort of coverage CES gets is more consumer electronics than say, E3.
I'm a software developer working on VR, I'm not clueless

The vast majority of Oculus pre-orders tomorrow will be going to hardcore gamers. The 970+ requirement pretty much ensures that. Social is definitely part of VR's future, but it has a long, long road ahead and I'm not sure why that would be such an overwhelming focus tomorrow.
Wait, did they just say this? Because to my knowledge they never said anything like that before, what they said was they were waiting to start supporting Rift again for Oculus to release SDK 1.0, and it's out now.
Having said that, you can already play the game on a DK2 using Steam's OpenVR, which the game supports (I've been playing Elite Horizons this way). If it doesn't get native Rift support in time for launch for whatever reason, you can probably play it that way.
Note that Elite Horizons takes a hell of a powerful system, I've got a system based around a 780ti, and I have to keep the quality at Low in my DK2, which has a lower resolution and framerate than the consumer Rift.
Do you count their in-house title Luckys Tail as a hardcore game?
Saying that Oculus is going to basically acting as Facebook shows you are clueless in this matter, as well as saying that Oculus will be trying to pay back their investment over the next few years. Facebook sees VR as the long-game, taking up to 10 years to become profitable, and Facebook is leaving Oculus alone, letting them do their own thing for at least 3-5 years.I'm a software developer working on VR, I'm not clueless

It's a game. I'm not sure why any other labeling matters.

Is it Elite Horizions only that take the I7 & 980+ to run in VR? I run Dangerous on my i5 970 rig at full settings 1080p at a smoth 60fps. I though for sure I could turn down some settings and get smooth VR on Dangerous?

Hey everyone,
With the news that Oculus are starting pre order of their consumer version tomorrow, I wanted to just make a quick post to confirm that we are still actively working with Oculus but currently the only SDK we are able to officially support is 0.6.
We wanted to make sure you had as much up to date information as possible and will let you know as soon as we have any more information.
Fly safe, Commanders!
What are you talking about? The vast majority of announced rift games, including Lucky's Tale, are not on Gear VR nor could they be. Tell me how many of these games or these games are on Gear VR? How many require "very low" hardware? Oculus themselves have said a 970 is the recommended card. That an Oculus + a VR ready PC is a $1500 purchase. That is anything but a "very low" barrier to entry. It is not easy to render two 1080x1200 images at 90fps.Because you've missed the point that a lot of the games on the store, including Lucky's Tail - are designed to work on Gear VR and PC, so the hardware requirement for the vast majority of the software is going to be very low. The barrier for entry isn't a super expensive graphics card unless you want those big hardcore PC only titles which I (suspect) will be the minority of the software announced tomorrow. Lets see!

3 of those games are also coming to Gear VR, and the list of games that support both Gear VR and PC is almost four times as long. Not sure how you can argue the majority of games are not for Gear VR...

I know that this is the general rule of thumb regarding the Oculus, and the vast majority of games I've played on the DK2 definitely turn into a juddery mess when the framerate goes below 75hz, but I've probably put 60 hours over the last 2 weeks playing Flight Simulator X using Flyinside which uses Asynchronous Timewarp and it has been absolutely amazing. FSX's framerate fluctuates wildly all the way down to sub 50 fps sometimes and yet it stays perfectly smooth in the rift. No Judder at all. I don't even start to get Judder until the framerate gets into the 30-35 range with max density around a ton of buildings. I'm not sure why other demos aren't using Timewarp to the extent that Flyinside does, but it works incredibly well to keep FSX smooth even when the framerate has gone to shit.Absolutely. Fluctuations or even a rock-steady framerate at below 75 hz is absolutely nauseating, instant discomfort. It's not a matter if being "optimal", a steady 90 hz framerate is mandatory.
People ask about Touch+Rift discount - Everyone with Touch needs a Rift, consider discount built into price of the subsidized Rift hardware.
Sure, but async time warp is directly countering the dropped framerate. It's disingenuous to say a VR game is "playable" at lower framerates when it's using time warp.I know that this is the general rule of thumb regarding the Oculus, and the vast majority of games I've played on the DK2 definitely turn into a juddery mess when the framerate goes below 75hz, but I've probably put 60 hours over the last 2 weeks playing Flight Simulator X using Flyinside which uses Asynchronous Timewarp and it has been absolutely amazing. Subsidized doesn't mean cheap, it means subsidized.hahaha
Well we'll see how uh subsidized the price is tomorrow.

My point is that the Oculus store isn't focused just on AAA titles for PC gamers with SLI graphics cards, they are catering to a far wider range of people (and devices). The 970 requirement is for some of the PC games, not for the entire store ecosystem.
