Today, we’re excited to announce that pre-orders for Rift will open on Oculus.com at 8am Pacific Time on January 6! We’ll be sharing everything you need to know to order your Rift on Wednesday when pre-orders go live.

As a reminder, every Rift comes bundled with Lucky’s Tale by Playful, and we’re also including CCP’s EVE: Valkyrie for free with every pre-order!

This is going to be an exciting week for VR, so Oculus founder Palmer Luckey will be answering all your questions during a Reddit AMA this Wednesday, January 6 at 6pm Pacific Time. We look forward to hearing from you.

Stay tuned for more updates this week. We can’t wait to share what’s coming next!

Pre-orders will be global, not US only - We have the required certification in 20 countries, more will follow.

the 20 countries it's shipping to:

This offer is only available in the following countries where Oculus Rift is shipping: United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Taiwan.

Good news everyone! They're shipping the CV1 with a case similar to the one the DK1 shipped with!

Oculus Rift preorders get priority for Oculus Touch preorders:

Palmer Luckey said:
Good news, everyone! When you preorder Rift, you also reserve your spot for Touch preorders. First in line for Rift = First in line for Touch.
People ask about Touch+Rift discount - Everyone with Touch needs a Rift, consider discount built into price of the subsidized Rift hardware.

Surprised we don't have a price yet, then.

edit: or even system recommendations or release date?

but yeah, it's really happening, isn't it? exciting times ahead

Whelp I'm only preordering this if it's $400 or below, and even then it depends on if they want the cash up front ala Gamestop or if they do it 'proper' like Amazon.

Begun, the VR Wars will have on January 6th at 8am Pacific.

It will be nice to finally have one of these things jump out there with a price.

Hopefully there is a domino effect after that.

So rush to get a pre-order, then cancel later after you get details/price you don't like or Vive brings must have tech. Pretty jank, but if that's the way it has to be, so be it.

More than a little worried that they announced the preorder date without a price point. This thing is going over $499+ isn't it? :(

This makes me think that maybe the person who posted about each vr company holding out on prices as long as possible is on to something.

I think that's obvious at this point.

If the price point isn't revealed until the preorder goes live that points to be it being more expensive than what a lot of people are hoping for. They are relying on impulse buys instead of giving you the price early and having people rationally talk themselves out of it.

Recommended specs are here:
https://www.oculus.com/en-us/blog/t...pc-sdk-0-6-released-and-mobile-vr-jam-voting/

NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
8GB+ RAM
Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
2x USB 3.0 ports
Windows 7 SP1 or newer

Hopefully people remember that when Oculus is talking "recommended specs" they're talking specs for running games at good quality locked at a framerate over 60fps since a locked high framerate is crucial for people not getting motion sickness.

About time this stalemate of non-info ended. Will be interesting to start seeing the companies layout their strategies, content, pricing and other plans more clearly.

Hoping for $400, but thinking probably $500. Palmer recently said they are good at keeping their promises and linked to an article where Brendan said the total package for Oculus is $1500 (which included the price estimate of a $1000 dollar VR ready PC)
