PlayStation 4 hits 35.9 million sold through to end users

Until Dawn developers and Sony said that the game sold more than expected and became a success. So it is a success. I can't remember if there were numbers for SO.

The list is about HUGE sucessful IPs. You seriously think Until Dawn and Sunset Overdrive belong in the midst of Watch Dogs or Destiny?

Hopefully this means actual games are on the horizon other than remasters and multiplats that play better on PC

Really for Sunset Overdrive? Wonder why MS is holding the numbers back, or is it insomniac? I'm sure the game sold well since it was bundled in and was well reviewed.

i think it just did ok. which is unfortunate cause game is better than that. maybe a multi platform part 2 will be a bigger success.

As a ps4 gamer, why should I give a shit if a game that has stable performance on ps4 runs better on pc?
And there have been tons of games that are not remasters and multiplats that play well enough on the console since launch.

Drivebys like this should really be penalized in some way. It adds nothing to the conversation.

Dismissing games in that goalpost fashion as not 'real games' really irritates me.

First its indies, then its japanese titles, then its anything that's not western AAA, and now its anything that's not western AAA focused that you can't get on PC in some form.

Only if Sony have
been less complacent and
provided amazon and other retailers with more stock
and kept star wars bundle at $299 for 1 more week
, they would
not have faced the embarrassment of announcing only 35.9 million and would
have announced more then 36 million sold to customers.

Dude, your shit is incredibly annoying. Stop.

At this point the PS4 has nearly 3 times the exclusive content the Xbox one has.

There are more first party titles, more 3rd party exclusives and more digital exclusives that launched on the console before PC.

Just because there hasn't been anything thats tickled your fancy does not mean it hasnt got alot of compelling content.

Now if you are comparing the PS4 to the WiiU you may have a arguement, but X1 doesn't come off favourable in that comparision either.

Yo Nightengale maybe change the description to "new ip console games that are successful enough to reach multimillion selling status".

Apparently people can't infer what hugely successful means from the context of the list and need everything spelt out for them.

I don't think we ever going to get 3 to 1 unless MS cut the gen short .
X1 will sell at least 40 to 45 million and i don't see PS4 selling 3 times that .

What if NX is a $250 console that's just above the Xbox One in power & it eat Xbox One's lunch this Christmas & Xbox One only sell 5 million in 2016 while PS4 sell 21 million then in 2017 it's 5 million to 25 million?

that would be like 27 million Xbox One to 81 million PS4

Because it´s not up to you or him to declare something successful or not, especially since the developers and publisher say it is successful. The success criteria that you wish it to be does not mean it is the success criteria that is correct. You don´t seem to understand that different companies have different expectations of said product and those expectation, if achieved, does mean that the product is successful regardless of how it sells.

Again where did i say the likes of UD or SO were unsuccessful?

Fine lets put it this way, TLOU/Destiny/TF/etc are far more sucessful than the aforementioned.

I had a mad moment and bought 35 million of them. They're all sitting in my panic room in the basement.

Wow your basement is now worth 14 billion dollars.

You must be living in New Zealand right?

So does anyone a region breakdown?

The way I see it is two reasons for PS4 sales.

1. Friends have it: People brought PS4 initially because of X1's launch. Now people are buying it 'cause it's more likely your friend has it. You don't wanna be that guy with the other console.

2. Investment: Even though Fall/ Spring 2015 wasn't great in terms of First Party, people know they'll be getting them in the future. Most people don't buy two consoles so they look at what they can except for the next few years. Seeing how PS3 had some great games near the end of the generation, people are excepting the same for PS4.

Number is feasible but number 2 is not really something that would bother the masses. Multiplatform games like Fallout, COD, Destiny, FIFA etc would all sell more on PS4 than any first party exclusive.Fallout aside multiplatform titles are promoted as PS4 games first and foremost, whomever gets those deals usually ends up with the lion's share of sales.

The PS4 is doing amazingly well due to Sony having these games pushed on their platform but also due to the fact Sony launched the PS4 in more markets earlier than before. They launched at a reasonable price and consumer are savvy enough to know that the PS4 is technically a better platform for games than the competition at the right price.

Yet it doesn't hinder people to go "lol sonygaf" when we'd basically given up on them as a community. Sure, most of us weren't so drastic but to claim that the board is Sony biased is a bit over the top. We tend to like the most popular platform every generation.

never say never, people thought it was a shoe in for Sony to be 3rd place again. 2016 reaching 3:1 is indeed not reasonable, but let's not assume MS will even get the same number of consoles in the U.S as 360 did, and they are considerably weaker in other territories this gen. The comparison to 360 is also a bit of spin as well because 360 didn't come flying out of the gate its first years in the market. Ps2 was still selling well, Wii craze, and RROD happened and put more consoles in the market place as well. 3:1 is not that unlikely IMO if VR takes off. So all of this X1 tacking higher than 360 while true, is not as glamorous as PR implies.

This is 100% true. GAF just follows trends in line with consumers. Gaming is not a cult FFS. The only people that tend to feel aggrieved are those who have chosen their alliances for one reason or another.

Woah, Amirox has zero Nostradamus-skills, he should try to get Pachter's job. I hope he's still in shape after eating so much crow.
I'm sure he's somewhat embarrassed but that honestly seems like it came from a place of frustration with Sony and trends at the time, rather than a pure prediction. I know many were switching over to 360 and I had one at first too to play Gears, but I was perfectly fine with my PS3 shortly after, and I knew I wasn't alone in the world lol.

The doom and gloom was very dramatic online on forums for Sony, but it's likely because PS was so dominant the previous generations, and not because Sony was just sucking so much. Early days on PS3 weren't even that bad, I remember Stardust, pixel junk monsters, VF5, Resistance, folklore and motor storm. Then MGS4 came and PS3 had a nice uptake.

Yeah, I think SonyGAF is more like very small portion of GAF, just like XboxGAF, you know those hardheaded fanboys who struggle to hide their obvious bias. It's just that PS4 is preferred console this gen, so obviously that "SonyGAF" is bigger and thus louder. There is always portion of people who need to validate their purchase by means of consolewarz, like we saw in that horrible thread with doom and gloom for PS4.
