Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game | The Official Thread

Played a game last night with my new ships and I was initially really disappointed with the Falcon...because I'm an idiot and didn't read the directions. I thought the attack cone was for the primary weapons.

After we finished and I got destroyed badly I realized it can fire in all directions like the movies. Doh!

Still super fun though. Can't wait to play again. I was bitching about the price of the star mat, but that thing is essential. It makes the game so much better.

So give Valen Rudor the title ... have him target lock and take his free evade. Then he gets shot, and after defending he takes focus.

He'll have a target lock and focus for his attack and he had an evade token for at least one time when he got shot. Even if the opponent purposely avoids shooting him, you still have a target lock for his attack and you deterred your opponent from trying to damage him. Not bad!

Probably don't want to take Push the Limit with him, though, so you can get that free action. Maybe Juke, in case you don't have to use your evade token on defense? (It lets you change an opponent's evade dice result to a focus result when you're attacking with an evade token.)

They make for amazing 'tourney day' kits but alot of people use them as their main storage solutions, packing with tissue paper or sponge to keep them still.

From my limited experience the Feldherr stuff is indeed good. I like their precut foams with the square grid. Super easy to cut and shape them to your needs. I use them together with a screw box like above for all my small ship needs.

Won't the ships rattle around in there and potentially get damaged? Do you line the compartments with something?

They rattle around but they don't get damaged if each individual ship has its own compartment. These are my storage solutions:

Sorry for the potatocam — no idea why a Galaxy S5 would turn out photos like that besides the lighting being a bit weak. Anyway, the black bag with plastic compartments for sewing supplies (from JoAnn Fabric) is the one I usually take to game nights and tournaments. The tackle box (from Walmart) was my original storage solution but now it's relegated to large-base ships, the GR-75 and extra tokens that I don't need on a daily basis, as well as some tournament swag.

In the OP I covered how I went about storing mine but it's been a process for sure and I wouldn't recommend it to everyone unless you are as OCD as I am when it comes to storing them. Something to note is that I have since expanded the storage to 3 of those plano boxes, one for each faction.

Just to add to my previous post, that's how I ended up doing things a few months ago. Ended up being pretty much perfect for all the small ships. Fits pretty well into the average messenger bag.
Have never found a good solution for the big ones though, so I never expanded on that. (definitely need a box for each faction by now.) Should get around that I guess.

I'm tempted to buy some foam and put it in the compartments but this is what I've got going on at the moment... Some of them do rattle (As you can see, one has even moved) but I don't think they would break inside the case.

There's probably a better way to organise the compartments though.

This case is called the Black and Decker 25 Compartment Organiser; bought from Homebase in the UK.

Edit: I have the Pilot and Upgrade cards in a binder and when my sleeves arrive I'll be sleeving them.

I'm sure it's just the lighting in the picture, but I wonder if they'll release a "blue" variant down the line. I want my TIEs to match. :(

Also, my Imperial Assault Carrier should be here this week. Anyone have suggestions for cases for the Huge "class" ships?

New to the party.

We got our son this to start for Xmas. We just started trying to learn the game this evening.

We are gonna slowly go through the manuals each day this week, and in theory we should have a grasp this weekend.

For huge ship storage, I personally use these pluck foam trays along with either this larger bag or this smaller one (depending on how many huge ships you are needing to store - both cases hold the same dimensions of pluck foam just FYI).

The larger Game Plus case is a better value for the price since it can store more trays, but if you don't want one that big, the Portable Warfare one is a great case. It's a tight fit but I was able to fit both the Raider and the Corvette each using one tray a piece. I can post pics if you are curious how I got them to fit.

That is a clean setup!

Any recommendations on cases for this stuff? Are the Feldherr cases on Amazon good? Which one should I get?

I have been buying these cases to hold 40k minis/bits, they work pretty good for X-Wing stuff too. I got them at walmart for about $5.

Also since it's probably buried under all the OP stuff, here's my storage solution (These are old pics when we were up to Wave 5 and I had just created the OP - I have since expanded to three of these cases - one for each faction. I'll try to take updated pics sometime soon of what my storage looks like.)

To store my collection I use three of these: Plano Double Cover Two Sided Tackle Organizer and I cut out custom sized trays out of cushion foam I found at Hobby Lobby with an x-acto knife (scissors to cut out the compartment shapes) to save some cash (a bit tedious but I'm happy with the results). A friend of mine went for this one, which has various trays you can swap out depending on what ships and tokens you want to bring with you. It was a challenge getting my entire collection at the time to fit in one case, but I was adamant on making it work. Eventually I simply owned too many ships so I bit the bullet and expanded it to three cases, and I ideally wanted something that gave me the flexibility to store them cleanly, without moving around, so I went with the custom foam tray method you can check out in the pics below.

They are double sided cases that are symmetrical and have two layers on either side with plenty of space, even if you don't intend to go with foam like I did. I was actually able to fit every ship in the game up to until Wave 7 came out (not pictured below since as I mentioned, I haven't taken updated pics since), but getting every one of the large ships to fit at the time required some modification of the innards (unless you get more than one case like I ended up doing in order to comfortable store every ship in the game plus some duplicates), but one of these cases, with some careful planning, is definitely capable of fitting at the very least two factions worth of ships. When I purchased the Decimator and Shuttle when all that was available was Wave 5, as I mentioned, I had to cut/modify part of the innards of the case to get that Shuttle to fit with that layout, but I managed to make it work pretty easily with an x-acto knife. Here are some dated images of what my collection at the time looked like when I was using only one case (I apologize for the shitty quality photos, my phone's camera sucks):

Here's one side of the case, which contains all of the main tokens, templates, asteroids, and Rebel ship bases on the outer layer, and my Rebel fleet and movement dials on the lower layer. What's great about the foam layout I went with is that I have two stacks of 1 inch foam in each section, which means that certain flatter ships (like Z-95's, Y-Wings, etc.) can fit on the bottom layer, freeing up space. For example, in this picture I ended up putting a row of 3 Z-95's underneath the X-Wings you can see in the top row.
6c6HDHW.jpg
aMzR8sb.jpg

On the other side, I have miscellaneous mission tokens, two damage decks, mine and bomb tokens, space debris obstacles, and Imperial ship bases on the outer layer, and my Imperial fleet and movement dials on the lower layer. I also added side compartments using adhesive Velcro to be able to fit the large ship bases since I had run out of room (visible in the second image).
k5g6VqJ.jpg
UnPMQv2.jpg

Since I eventually ran out of room for my case to store all of my card, I ended up storing them in a binder protected with sleeves. Nothing too fancy to see here (I have also since picked up a mini American sized binder to store the upgrade cards separately since my main binder was running out of storage space)

Oh those look pretty good, thanks!

They're great. It's so satisfying to have ships that have your own personal touch to them, isn't it?

yeah man super addicting. Feel like im going to be spending more money on paints and brushes then I do on X-wing now.

I think the Kwing is next. Those wings are so flat and ripe for some editing.

Saw this Jumpmaster info pop up on /tg/. I do not speak French, but someone on Dakka confirmed the translation. I thought it was interesting to share, since FFG is taking their sweet time with scum previews.

"The first time you are destroyed, cancel all remaining damage, discard all your Damage cards, and assign 4 facedown Damage cards instead."

Keep in mind the JumpMaster has 5 native hull, and you can put Hull Upgrade on it and /get it back/ the first time you die.

And that's not all!

That's 4-LOM on the right, whose pilot ability translates to: "During the end phase, you may remove one of your stress tokens and assign it to another ship at Range 1."

Cool couple of pilots for the Misthunter.

I'm guessing you mean 4-Lom on the right? :p

Edit: 4-LOM's ability is NASTY for all those ships that thrive on actions. Soontir Fel immediately springs to mind.

Has there been any word at all about a PC or iPad version of the game?

I want nothing more but to be able to play this on the go or without needing another person or to set up the miniatures.

So I'm trying to put together a force...currently I have;

TIE bomber
Two core sets (one old one TFA)
Imperial Aces

Just trying to figure a list from the cards I've got so far.

I use this site all the time to play around with builds:
https://geordanr.github.io/xwing/

It's really slick and you can even print out nice squad sheets with everything laid out. It will even list which expansions cards come from, so if you find a card you want to buy, you'll know where to get it.

If you want to expand your army, I'd also recommend a regular Interceptor pack so you can obtain a copy of the pilot "Soontir Fel".

Oh I love it, tractor beam is a complete dick and throwing out stress is always hilarious. The TBeam should also combo quite well with the Tie Defenders new double tap ability, I look forward to working them together.

how filthy will that be? Vessery pulls them in forcing a boost bringing the ship into Range 1 of him and his wingmates? Just nasty.

Love tractor beams, that's gonna be immense on the board.

Im not sold on Dual Cards though. Why would anyone want to reduce PS? Especially for no points, it just makes the ship over costed.

Ive heard people say that maybe you can't take it without the other card but I'm not convinced. You can have lists that only have one elite. Doesn't make sense.

it's the same card, it's a two-sided card. Looks like you can flip it mid-game too.

Could be useful for blocking purposes. Sometimes you may want to move earlier than the opponent. And again, it's probably something you use because you can and don't have an EPT already.

Might want to move before one of your squadron's other ships. Also might want to block an enemy ship for a turn. As jstevenson said, it appears to be a double-sided card without the usual card backing image, and there's an implied mechanic with the whole Dual Card tag that will let you flip the card mid-game, perhaps during the Planning Phase. Could make for some interesting options.

I'm guessing dual card will happen like decloaking.. after planning and before activation. Use seems really limited. Mainly bidding, and in those few occasions where you have an ace who may want to block in an all-ace game.. or a mid-range(?) who can either block or shoot first. application seems REALLY limited. Well actually it's a solid card with limited application, then utterly crippled by it being an EPT. There are a ton of EPTs better suited. And VI is 1-point more.. but bidding for initiative with a poor EPT seems like a risky move with little reward.

tractor beams though. I mean damn.. that's a whole friggin meta right there. That's not even touching the pilots/crew.

I mean, Adaptability is free though. So worst case you can just raise the level of any EPT pilot when you don't have EPT points for them.

I think you'll see it a lot for that reason alone, and I think other folks will have other crafty uses for it too.

0 points, not free. That EPT slot DEFINITELY carries a cost. We'll have to wait and see. In no way am I condemning it. Just thinking out loud that any empty EPT you might have, might be better used somewhere else. and the scenarios where you are at 100 points, AND have an empty EPT, are going to be rare. AND THEN beyond that, those scenarios will almost all likely use it as a mini-VI. Which to me is the most baffling thing.

One thing I've been wondering, is if you have to have BOTH cards equipped. and if you flip one, you have to flip the other also. That actually seems to make way more sense than just a card that you arbitrarily flip (or in most cases don't).

I'm honestly extremely excited about Adaptability. The dual card nature also seems super interesting. Would be cool if it's a new card type that is introduced in general, since dual sided cards that allow you to slightly change its role throughout the game would add another dynamic element to the game.
