I feel like I missed a bit of info here as multiple people are saying this, but I didn't see it in the article. How was it determined that "Dual Card"s are two-sided cards and not a pair?

The article only links to one of the images, if you click right, it'll display the other.

The theory behind the double sided card comes from the image of the whole set at the top of the article. It displays 2 adaptability cards with the reduce pilot skill artwork. The article says the expansion has 2 copies, so it makes sense that the increase pilot skill artwork is on the other side of the card.

Yeah, judging from the picture and the fact that the article refers to it as a singular "card" tells me it's double-sided.

Two new playmats, $40 each

They look really cool, even more tempting than the first two mats, but at $40 they still seem like quite the luxury to me.

Went to a very small tourney today in a new local store. Only 10 people, 3 rounds, matches were decided from a hat (though winners played winners etc and you didn't get paired twice). The TO/store owner was really cool and not an X-Wing player so he gave up his prize so more people got stuff. I came 3rd and walked away with this:
Was a fun day, also played against my cousin who was flying a list that in our usual Friday night X-wing get together, was 15-1. I made it 14-1, I'm the Brock Lesnar of our local meta.
My List:

===========
WampaStompa
===========

98 points

Pilots
------

“Howlrunner” (21)
TIE Fighter (18), Predator (3)

“Wampa” (14)

“Scourge” (18)
TIE Fighter (17), Crack Shot (1)

Black Squadron Pilot (15) x 3
TIE Fighter (14), Crack Shot (1)

My Cousins List:

===========
Bosska Fett
===========

100 points

Pilots
------

Boba Fett (49)
Firespray-31 (39), Lone Wolf (2), “Mangler” Cannon (4), Recon Specialist (3), Inertial Dampeners (1)

Bossk (51)
YV-666 (35), “Mangler” Cannon (4), Greedo (1), K4 Security Droid (3), Mercenary Copilot (2), Hound's Tooth (6)

How did your cousin get on with Bossk and Greedo? Last time I took them to a tournament that did nothing but burn myself with that combo.

Like I said, his list went 14-0 in our local meta over the space of a few months and it got to be a bit of a running joke, people would come to our weekly game night just to attempt to beat him. Greedo would be good for him as his focus fire would have fett strip shields and bossk deal all the bonus damage. Near the end game, his bossk one-bombed 3 of my TIES because he'd roll a hit and a crit, convert the crit to 2 hits and Greedo would then convert the first of those 2 hits into another crit. As for it biting him, it doesnt until the end game and by then, he's usually done enough damage to your squad to make beating him incredibly difficult.

My game against him, I knew Fett needed to be taken out first as he can be impossible to hit and punishing in return. I went for the joust and had a round of range 2 crack shot that stripped him of shields, followed by a round of HowlRunner rerolls at range 1 that finished the job. At this point, I had been chased by bossk who had taken out 1 of my ships already (wampa, he was key to beating him as I was gonna use his ability to get crits through his shields). So o I had a round of jousting that took over half his shields away (and one of my black Squadron pilots), and spent the rest of the game trying to get behind him, we ended up circling each other for ages around an asteroid and I just couldn't get there until I K-Turned a black Squadron Pilot towards him for the block whilst moving the rest in behind, I scored the block and managed to rip him apart over a few turns, his 180° arc made sure that he still got a few kills. By the time the Pup emerged, only 2 of my TIES remained. Both managed to strip it down to 1 hull he managed to one-shot another TIE. So I had to utilise the TIES speed to win, I ran the clock down and got the 100-86 win. I was exhausted by the end of that game but it was one of my favourites.

I'm not sure if you're just foot noting, but Bossk's ability only works on uncanceled crits. Meaning he doesn't convert the Crit to a Hit until the very end, AFTER hits/crits are canceled by defense dice. So if he rolls a single hit and crit, you only need two evades to completely avoid damage, not three.

I've flown Bossk/Boba, and it's certainly nasty. Bossk will regularly dish out 3-4 damage a shot, though I ran a slightly different version:

Boba Fett (Scum) (39)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Gunner (5)
Inertial Dampeners (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Bossk (35)
Calculation (1)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Recon Specialist (3)
Greedo (1)

Total: 100

Yeah I know, his rolls in those instances were off a green maneuver (free target lock) with a focus action. He managed 2 hits n a crit and I only managed a single evade.

It's cool to see all these Boba an Bossk lists. I am considering a similar list for my tournament so to see all these builds is giving me a lot to think about.

Ah, how observant. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

The trick is to make your opponent think bossk is the major threat, send fett in for the joust and have bossk swing in on the flank. Your opponent will either take the bait, chase bossk and fett will pick them off with rerolls, or they try to joust fett, his defence rerolls keep him alive and bossk stays alive longer. Either way, focus fire and your opponent suffers a nasty one-two punch.

Probably not the right place for this butttttt FFG is releasing a ton of info this week on Star Wars: Rebellion and it looks cool as anything else out there.

Here's last week's preview: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2016/1/15/where-is-the-rebel-base/
This week: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2016/1/18/powerful-allies/
Intro to game: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2015/11/3/star-wars-rebellion/

It's almost Twilight Imperium: Star Wars Edition. I'm pretty hyped for it.

Refusing to read it because
A) it's not X-Wing and
B) I can't afford another Star Wars game that I'll never play (sorry, Imperial Assault)

At least Rebellion won't have tons of little expansions. At most, I imagine it gets a few occasional (once per year or every two years) deluxe expansions.

Ah, cool. His ability is one that I see confused all the time, wanted to be sure.

In X-Wing news, what are the odds we get a Jumpmaster preview before the model actually releases?

Well, we got our Mist Hunter preview last Tuesday, which is very unusual for them. We may get a repeat this week, but from what I understand, this week is all about rebellion. So I'm feeling a preview next week, wave preview week after that, release article week after that, wave release mid-feb.

Was listening to the most recent Scum & Villany podcast, when they were discussing the new Adaptability card that comes with the Mist Hunter, and I had a thought. They presumed that the player using the card chooses whether to increase or decrease pilot skill, either once at the beginning of the game, or the player chooses at the beginning of every round. But what if the new rule with dual cards is that the player gets to choose which side is up at the start of the game, but they get flipped at the end of every round? Adaptability would therefore be potentially both a benefit and a hindrance, depending on which side is up any given round. Any chance of this being the dual card rule?

It's possible, although I personally believe that the dual nature of the dual cards is just there to emphases the opposing nature of the two different upgrades, in this case plus one or minus one pilot skill. I don't believe you are going to be able to flip them midgame for any real reason.

as other's have said, it's an expensive card in that it takes your EPT slot, so I can't imagine it won't have significant benefits.

It's either something you choose at the beginning of the game (and could choose to do either way in a tournament, depending on opposing list and initiative) - or it's something you can change between rounds.

Given the adaptability means changing on the fly, I still think you can flip it mid game.

Am I right to be annoyed at my LGS? They didn't even advertise their X-Wing Store Championship (After saying last week they would) and today they just told someone on their Facebook "Sorry it's sold out" after not even advertising it, and after telling people we'd get more information about it this week...

I am so frustrated, sorry I'm not a regular who plays every other day in your store - that doesn't mean I'm a second rate customer.

The store who got the official store championship last year in our area had their store advertised on FFG's website. Every month I would go in and ask when it was, and every month they said 'next month' this went on, I attended regionals, came into the store and ask again 'oh it was last week' brilliant.

You're not wrong to be annoyed, it's ridiculous. You should complain.

Complain to FFG, get them delisted as an official FFG retailer. That'll teach those bastards!

Seriously, though, a lot — a lot — of FLGS owners and managers are incompetent at advertising, organizing and communicating in general. So you're not alone. But that doesn't make it right, and you have every reason to be frustrated and to bitch them out.

the problem with this theory, is that that's not really "adaptability". That's "man I hope I don't get fucked."

I am still going with the guess that you will need to have BOTH cards in play, and they must be opposites. So one pilot has to have +1 adapt, and another pilot has to have -1 adapt. To me this makes the most sense, and (as FFG alluded to) COULD actually be pretty interesting in games with a wide range of PS.

local hobby stores (and their online presences) are largely incompetent at social media and marketing. It's truly dumbfounding. It takes 2 minutes to send out a post using a tool that will simultaneously hit Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and a blog.. Then again I imagine much of it comes down to the owners/employees themselves not being very skilled socially. Most seem to be introverts to a large degree, likely making even social media daunting.

I ran a shop for a few years and going to the retailer conventions it was surprising how many owners had no idea how to expand their business. I mean maybe some/many were lazy... but at the very least you came away with the impression of "well ever since the 80s, customers would seek US out", but since the explosion of online... customers have virtually ZERO incentive to seek out local hobby shops.. and they (shops) literally have no clue what to do about it.

the single worst trend I am seeing now is stores prohibiting you from bringing in food and drink with the slogan "pay where you play". Hint: forcing me to buy 20oz sodas (or fucking bottled water!!!!!!!!!!) for $2 isn't going to grow your business.. it's going to piss me off which will ultimately shrink your business. I have an idea. How about running sales on a regular basis, and advertising them. Or one of a million other ways to actually make me WANT to come into the store.

Funny enough.. a local store actually had a good idea, and kind of balked on it.. They run a pre-order discount club where you pay to get online-like discounts on bundled pre-orders. "but why would I do that when I can just BUY online".. well, I look at it like amazon prime. I'll pay an annual fee if it means I can get the stuff the day it comes out.. that's fine, vs trying to hit a free shipping tier and then having it be like 5 days smartpost. where they balked, is that they were originally only going to post the deals IN STORE, which while not super customer convenient (compared to say posting online), at least gives people an incentive to stop in the store periodically. And they would also give them out over the phone if it was too much for you to stop in frequently.. alas they relented to pressure and are starting to post the deals online. kind of a damned if you do/damned if you don't sort of thing.. but it's the first time in like 15 years I've seen a local hobby shop have a GOOD idea when it came to expanding their business.

I just signed up for my store championship set for Feb 13th. Going to have to start narrowing down which build I want to bring and practice more. Right now I'm considering bringing my Palp/Vader build I used in my last tournament that I placed third in, or maybe an unorthodox Scum build.

I'm also tempted to go to my Armada store championship on March 5th despite me only playing the game twice so far (and only once was a proper game). If I don't have enough time to practice before then, I might just show up just for fun to see how my noob ass does and at the very least, learn a thing or two from some more experienced players.

I got my tournament on the 30th. Just over a week to go now. Likely going to go with a Bossk, 2 headhunter pirates and a ion turret Ywing Scum list although still sorting out the odds and ends of it

... I'm really tempted to do this, although they are the only "big" BG store in my city, they also run FF evenings almost bi-weekly.

I'm unsure, I am still salty about it.

Buy what you think will be fun.

Cool thanks I plan on buying decimater and the first core soon. Any other must buys for someone who likes imperial?

As far as I'm concerned, the TIE Interceptor Expansion Pack and Imperial Aces Expansion Pack are must haves for Imperials. A decked out Soontir Fel is so good and so fun to fly.

Edit: To save money and to try him out, just get the Interceptor Pack or the Aces Pack so you have at least 1 Interceptor, then proxy the corresponding cards. The typical go to Soontir Fel build is:

Soontir Fel
-Push The Limit
-Royal Guard TIE
-Autothrusters
-Stealth Device

When you print off cards or a list (A squad) and play using that instead of the actual cards.

Is that ok to use in tournaments or you need the real deal? Whats a good place to go for print outs? Also whats a good place for builds? I really want to find a good Decimator strat/build

No, proxies are illegal in tournaments. All of your components must be real. Proxies are only good for pooping on for friendly games and for playtesting.

The official FFG forum has a place for people to post lists: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/forum/428-x-wing-squad-lists/

You also could browse all the lists people have saved in the awesome X-Wing Squadron Builder (although it doesn't seem to want to work for me right now): http://xwing-builder.co.uk/list

Or you could peruse the website of a prominent X-Wing player (Major Juggler) where he tries to collect lists from as many tournaments as possible, and he always gets the top lists from the biggest tournaments: http://lists.starwarsclubhouse.com/archtypes

mmm, but the pilot and upgrade cards for the TIE Advanced that come with the Raider are really good........

also Emperor Palpatine comes with the Raider and that dude is crazy

Speaking of which, I have a story. I played a game at an FLGS a couple days ago and tried out Palpatine for the first time. While most people put him on a naked Shuttle, I put him on my Kenkirk Decimator (with Ysanne, Push the Limit and Engine Upgrade). I flew that alongside Darth Vader (with title, ATC, Proton Rocket, Twin Ion Engine Mk II and Ruthlessness, I got a little experimental there, heh).

Palpatine basically won me the game against a Scum squad consisting of Talonbane Cobra, a Cartel Spacer rocking an HLC, and Bossk with Gunner and K4 Security Droid. Turning a blank to a crit when my Vader already is getting a free crit already is brutal. At the end of the game, it was my Kenkirk with about six hit points left against his Bossk with like five hit points. He got a bad roll and rolled a single hit on his attack, and I rolled my one green die (thanks to Kenkirk's pilot ability) and rolled an evade. This is what my opponent wanted: For me to block the one damage so he could trigger Gunner and roll again, hoping for a crit that he could use Bossk to turn into two more hits and whittle me down more.

So what did I do? I used Palpatine to switch my evade to a blank. I let one damage go through to keep Gunner from triggering. It was hilarious and I'd never considered that usage before with Palpatine, but it worked great and probably saved me. I blew up his YV a turn later.

Hoooo boy it is all going down in my local meta.

So I went to my local game night for the first time since early December, the time when I caught the guy I suspected was a cheat in the act, and I brought up the topic to the guys who weren't there that night and 5 of them came forward and all said they'd seen him do a similar thing but he was too fast for them to confirm he was in fact cheating (for those who haven't read about it, his dials are super loose and he twists them to a new move while you are distracted, I caught him doing it when he thought I was busy moving a swarm of 6 ships). So many people have played him and they all said they found it crazy how he managed to consistently outfly them. One even told me how he now does a thing where he uses his hand as a wall to roll his dice into 'so that they dont fly across the table' but he actually picks them up with an almost whipping motion that results in dice changing from misses to focuses or hits to crits. So many people had stories about him and now they're all super wary of him. One of them called him out on facebook and he ignored them at first, sending a friend to defend him but eventually came forward, denied everything and played the victim card and 'announced' that he was leaving the group/store.

I personally hope this makes him see sense and stop cheating, but I just feel he'll go elsewhere and continue. He's on the player list for a store championship next month, the guy who called him out is on that list too. I cannot wait.

Yep Palp is amazing...and I never even thought about using it to purposefully get a blank, that's an awesome application of his die modification haha.

The build that got me third place in my last tourney had Palp in a shuttle. Honestly I feel like it would be incredibly difficult for me to take him out of my Imperial lists after playing with it.

I desperately want to play Imperial but I think that Palpatine or the TIE Advanced using the upgrade cards is almost necessary in most lists.

And I'm not going to be able to buy the raider until I get a new job so boooo.

At least I have BroBots...

Is coolstuffinc pretty accurate on their shipping dates? It shows free shipping showing up on Friday. It's $8 to get it here on Wednesday.

I want to make sure I have it by Saturday...
