Fire Emblem Fates' localization doesn't have the petting minigame

And just like that the game went from "never ever going to bother" to "will eventually try".
Baby steps.

Thank god. I mean I'm glad Fire Emblem is a bit bigger now, which I assume is due to waifu things like this and modernization. But I'm glad its out for the localization.

Fire Emblem is several times bigger in the west than it was previously, and I very much doubt it's due to Otaku bait content.

Awakening got a pretty good marketing push (for a Nintendo b-tier franchise), received great reviews, and was the most user friendly entry in the series.

Never saw the appeal of this. Petting Pokemon I get, because I pet my dog. But I don't pet my friends and coworkers.

This will certainly piss some people off, but it's better than having stories on non-video game-centric websites that say "Yo, check this fucked up shit out!" and possibly leading to lost sales.

It increased support points between the avatar and the other unit, and doing it with an S support ranking partner could result in gaining access to two special accessories (a swimsuit and something else).

Isn't this important if you're playing the Conquest version of the game? I've heard certain characters can die if their support isn't high enough by a certain point, and I've also heard you can't grind in that version of the game.

I was never going to use it anyway.

Hopefully they add something small to take its place, but honestly the game is better without that stuff.

Hopefully IS gets the message that they went a bit too far there.

Oh. 0_o

So did they take out the swimsuit and something else out as well or will there be other ways to obtain it?

Curious because I wonder how this affects the grinding as well.

If Dragon's Crown is any indication it actually leads to more sales.

conflicted, i didn't care for it but it WAS optional.

now it is not even optional lmao

I can't be bothered to defend or be against the change.

Will be interesting to see the sales numbers in the west compared to awakening, with the localization changes and several versions being available.
Shame to see some people acting as if it was a simple localization change, and to see Nintendo cut more and more content from their western releases.

Hope they'll see the mixed reception and feedback, even if it's too late to change anything...

Fuck man. Every damn game, it's the same thing. Yeah, it's been the case for a while now, but I'm really getting tired of this kind of crap. There has to be a better solution to this than just cutting features/content from the rest of the world for every release out of Japan.

That's still kind of important.

This wasn't just an extra silly thing like that stupid matchmaking thing in Awakening. This is an actual function of the game that affects the gameplay. If it was replaced with some other way to affect character growth in the same way, I'd have no problem, but right now, we're getting less content that is not purely cosmetic like the censorship in Xenoblade.

This is not a practice I want to support.

Considering how easy raising support levels was in awakening this should be a non factor. At worst they could just slightly bump up the rate that the avatar bonds with people to effectively replace the benefit of the minigame without having to deal with it. Either way you're screaming at clouds here enough Japanese players have made it apparent the minigame was more annoying then beneficial.

Once they added in the affinity and marriage they had to go down this road. What else could they do to out anime game trope themselves?

the affinity system was there before awakening..not sure about marriage..probably in one of the older only-jap ones

it's probably just a way to sell more..and the new direction was already clear when they changed completely the art style anyway

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
I can imagine /v/ exploding with pants-shitting fury right now.

I was still going to get the game no matter what.

Not gonna lie, i'm kind of bummed. It's not like I was super gung-ho about the mode, but I know this is going to nag at me now. Dang.

Uh, wasn't this kind of important for character stat growth and stuff?

Not really. You do miss out on a ton of dialogue though w/ your potential spouse.

Not really.
It doesn't give enough support to be significant.
And even in conquest you can still grind support whenever, you just can't grind money or exp.

I think you're jumping to conclusions? We have no idea how Nintendo is going to compensate for the lack of this. I'm sure it's something they've thought about.

As someone who played the JAP version good riddance.
The petting mini game is actually hell for people like me that cannot leave things unchecked.
After every mission you get to do it while hating yourself(rubbing your ds with the stilo just ain't a fun mechanic).
It's awful you guys ain't missing anything.

Hopefully we get a better system. Wouldn't it be funny if the localization had the better/tighter gameplay because of this?

Disappointed, insofar as those are high-quality models/animations that I'm not sure we'll find anywhere else.

Personally, I'd prefer a compromise where we at least get a model viewer to appreciate the 3D Kozaki art.

And yet petting peoples faces is less messed up than petting your 'pet' then making them violently fight each other for personal gain and amusement.

Priorities!

Never said Awakening, dude. I've played all the games to date. They added little by little, and hit the ceiling pretty quickly. After the Wii game that stopped with the logical 'friends in your team but war I guess' to full out dating aspects, which a lot of games were doing at the time.

Supports incredibly easy to grind in the game.

You'll see them in the confession scenes.

Come on now, I was expecting some sort of Criminal Girls style petting and instead it's something like this? From the reaction of people here calling it creepy I was expecting much worse, this just looks silly.

well, creepy is an often overutilised on the internet,it's nothing new.

I don't get how that's considered inappropriate, it seemed harmless just like the similar feature in Pokemon X/Y.
Oh well, wasn't interested in the game anyways.

Not that I was excited by this feature but I don't see why people thought it was "gross" or "creepy". You only touched the faces of men and women. So it wasn't like a vita game or anything but whatever.
