I probably got this minimalist thing wrong but whatever, I like this box art so sue me.

It's also clearly not what the OP was asking for if you look at the examples provided. A better choice would've been "minimalistic" box arts to remove the shackles of this very specific art term.

Perhaps the OP should clarify what he means, because his examples aren't minimalist and arguably not minimalistic either.

I clarified on the second page. I guess basically the opposite of bloated. There's obviously a broad definition of the term, though, so eh, go nuts.

Yup. While a few of them are pretty busy I'd say the majority of the box arts posted in this thread are minimalistic and quite good looking to boot, especially compared to the majority of video game covers.

As for minimalism as an art term, yeah. Lots of non minimalist covers in here. But I can't blame people for not knowing the difference.

This is one of the worst minimalist threads I've ever seen.

I think the only thing that really qualifies is the Heavy Rain box art?

The idea of minimalism is to remove as much information as possible while still conveying a core message.

Then, in my opinion, both my examples are minimalist. A close-up of a person's face and a sunset with a plane. Anyone who's finished each game will immediately know the significance.

Not an art student. Most of the box arts in this thread for minimalist box arts aren't minimalist. Should we just go ahead and allow all box arts?

ITT: box art we like

Lol yup. If this were Reddit yall would be crucified.

The Olly Moss Resistance 3 cover is my favorite and even that probably doesn't count.

much smaller than the actual box size, not sure if you can make it much smaller, maybe a photoshop expert could

This would be like the opposite of minimalism.

I'd consider that a maximalist cover design.

Just the classic grid and a small drawing related to the game

Came for this !
The games are also beautifully minimalistic

I have no idea what those games are and the covers tell me nothing about them.

...the weird thing is .. the cover tells a LOT

Random screenshot of said games found on google :

Lol.

Honestly to Moon who was suggesting a name change, you would probably have to get away from anything minimal- period. Maybeeast cluttered would have been fine.

Maybe "simplistic" or something like "plain" or just "simple" or "unadorned"? :D (was looking for appropriate synonyms on google ^^)

No bloated action. No distracting background or scenery. No edgy monsters crawling everywhere. Just our hero standing calm, reflecting on his mission ahead and ready to kick ass. You can just see the determination on his face in the visor.

This is like the least minimalist thing imaginable. Looming, glowering space marine with giant shot gun and impossibly busy armour taking up almost every inch of the frame while flames, smoke and sparks swirl around him.

For reference, actual minimalism:

a. A cover which only means something to people who have already completed the game seems comically misguided
b. There is still plenty of unnecessary information in those covers, such as the textures and the frilly decorations around the text, the literal depictions of form, etc

Exist Archive has a nice minimalist box art

Well, this one is not that minimalist but since you mentioned Megaten, I just had to post my favorite cover in the series
