Waiting for better guns and armor really helped in the Blacksite Mission.

Sadly I'm pretty sure I will lose this campaign thanks to the doom counter.

Is there ANY way to reduce the ridiculous 3 second+ pauses between each unit's actions?? That's the only thing that's significantly bugging me at this point

If you're taking about your units just hit tab to switch soldiers while they animate.

The enemies, I dunno

Can you add a mod, play with the mod for a bit, save your game, remove the mod and load the save? Or will that error out?

Since you edited I shall edit aswell. No, I just said you cant load a save that was using mods (if you removed those mods that is)

Wait im an idiot, if you cant load a save you cant continue your game, so basically you cant remove mods.

Dint judge me its 5am

So those Avatar facilities in the middle of the oceans, the only way to stop them is to kill Avatars right? I have one with 6 progress bars worth right now, might need to go Codex hunting...

Is it a known issue with created characters where they automatically show up with Guile hair and aviators, regardless of what you actually gave them in the CC? Cause for whatever reason, its like half of the female characters I create end up with random Guile hair and aviators. Plus none seem to adhere to the specialty I set in the CC.

Also having this problem.

Glad I decided to just customize as I get them :/

I had quite a few soldiers with the guile haircut and aviators but all of the sudden they got recustomized by themselves. New colors, haircut and everything. Kinda annoying when you try to color code your team if everything resets every now and then.

Also for a game that has been kinda hyped for its improved character customization I'm really disappointed. Just a few preset faces, no body customization at all. Maybe I'm just spoiled after playing dragons dogma for awhile.

85% if not more of my soldiers are ladies.

Is the game scannimg my other steam games save files or something? >_>

Nearing the end game on my non-Ironman Commander run. I scummed a bit, but now I'm at the point where I'm steamrolling onto the finale. Gonna try to expand my resistance network to every region on the globe before I finish, and then I'll try my hand at making some mods. I have a bunch of ideas already.

OK, restarted the game (third time's the charm), this time on easy and am having a blast. The difficulty here (as a noob) feels on par with EU. Finally having fun with this. Yay!

Seriously. And no, turning off beginner v/o doesn't stop his whining.

I hate Retaliation missions. I've never failed one, but even when I double-time it and take crazy risks, the most civilians I've ever saved is 8. There's only 13 on the map, and at least one dies every turn (or so it seems).

Bradford's constant whining makes me hate the retaliation missions. "Gimme a fucking break bradford the troops just landed FFS"

Hmm counter a ufo or faceless in every mission. Why don't I just cut off my fucking arm instead?

Faceless 100% fuck those guys

UFO missions can be easy if you can hack an enemy mech and just use it to destroy the EMP thingo while you all hang back :p

Weird. I feel the opposite. I lost 10 guys on one UFO mission and only ever lost one guy to a faceless.

Yeah, I get this too.

What is the point of creating characters when the game is going to override my choices anyway?

Would it be possible to ever get through ONE FUCKING SCAN CYCLE without some world ending event happening which I must intercede?

This game is utter bullshit. A snake that can grab a guy from 6-7 squares away, while in full cover and stun batons that can apparently, hit a guy inside a building, through a brick wall. Rassum frasssum. Firaxis "balance" at it again. Reload.

10-20FPS in everything besides combat, freezes, CTDs....for all the shit Namco/Ubi/WB get, none of the big name debacles even come close to how terrible, performance-wise, this has been. It's embarrassing that this was pushed out in this state and that it's been hand-waved away by most media outlets. Firaxis is Bethesda-tier, now.

Yep, I'm at the restart point on my first run. Pretty much everyone of use to me is eternally hospitalized, and my supplies can't keep up with the recruit meatgrinder. Every battle I went through yesterday ended in complete disaster, Blacksite included, even with Mag weapons.

Should I rush the Blacksite mission early, and try to Overwatch turtle it ala EU? Or is it even worse if I don't let the Avatar timer tick up to halfway and have mag weapons and better armor on hand?

Restart time for me, my 2 veterans just went down and I'm outta funds and relying on 5 rookies.

I have a better idea of what I should research first.

Avatar Meter doesn't mean jack shit. Even when it fills up you have 20 days to halt its progress. I try to get 5 man squad, mag weps and plate armour before going to the first black site mission. Also grenadiers own when it comes to killing shit. Use grenadiers to remove cover/shred armour and then fire with other squad members.

I'd say don't worry terribly much about the Avatar Project counter. Your main priority at the start needs to be upgrading your squad. Focus on Grenadiers early on, build Guerilla Tactics and get Squad Size upgrade as soon as possible.

Also: Psi soldiers are fucking DOPE.

Does anyone have any links or anywhere to find the combat music (the music that plays when you're engaged with the enemy)? It's not in the OST that I've heard.

ironman veteran has pretty much delivered on the difficulty front for me. In particular XCOM had a problem where once you got plasma and psionics there wasn't much of a challenge. Whereas now the difficulty has been ramping up constantly - I barely had any time with plasma weapons before the game forced me on a mission with an
Andromedon AND a Sectopod at once.
I've only lost 2 soldiers since the shit hit the fan but I'm feeling like all my missions are taking it to the wire. I could have squad wiped easily on any of them.

Maybe it'll chill out once I have psi and more anti robot/armor stuff to work with. I just got acid grenades and level 3 gremlins. But I'm guessing my problems are partially due to not having the AWC early on, so I didn't get all the crazy skill combos.

Unlimited Capacity
This is getting hilarious. I beat the original on impossible ironman multiple tumes and I just keep getting utterly destroyed. Like every mission is a wipe lol

Man the Mimic Beacon is good. Seems to get all their attention, I figured it was just you know, a chance or something. And it can take cover so it migh lastt the entire turn. With good positioning can be a great way to draw out enemies or flank them safely.

Only downside is it costs 2 Faceless corpses so it's not very easy to make many or replace if lost.

Man, the faceless are brutal. You are already under a time crunch to rescue civilians and then you run into one of these motherfuckers.

In order to gain a better understanding of the strategic layer, I turned the difficultly down to easy and started a new campaign. I can't believe how easy Easy is. Not only am I completing missions flawlessly, but everything seems to be a guaranteed hit, even if it says 40%. My guys have only missed twice in the first four missions. I feel there needs to be a difficultly between Easy and Veteran.

What's your system? I haven't had a single crash and I've been playing non-stop.

Also, Vipers and Lancers are easy to counter. Rangers with upgraded swords do a number on Vipers while overwatch takes care of Lancers fairly easily. Flashbangs help too.

Also, regarding the Faceless: having a couple of guys on overwatch does wonders for them. Not to mention they go down pretty easy with swords and shotguns.

My current set-up is two blade-Rangers, one combat drone specialist, a mixed grenadier, and one pure sniper. I unlocked the sixth slot a couple of hours ago, but I don't really need the extra guy. Most pods activate with 3-4 guys, and it's pretty straightforward to take out the first two with the rangers and clean up after.

The mimic beacon is super overpowered, it's unbelievable. I'm tempted to buy a couple more for my rangers to change up my strategies, but it's already cheesier than spamming flashbangs.
