XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

had a 'protect the device' mission where in the first turn it was shot by an andromedon which set it on fire and it blew up two turns later

Honestly I wish there was more stuff like this, encouraging different play styles to add replayability. The three tier upgrade system where everything is clearly better than the last tier is lame, wish we had some alternatives with trade-offs or something to mix things up.

It's why that DMR sniper mod looks rather interesting to me.

Damn. The moment when one of your squadmates panic and throws a grenade at your sniper parked on a nearby rooftop, causing him to fall two stories down to his death.

Mission spoilers :

Ended it in about 5 turns. Hacked a sectopod, turned around and nuked the emitter, bailed. Lol.
I feel the defensive matrix was a waste of time/supplies, the turrets do fuck all.

On this new game I started I really wanted to get to Psi Operatives early but it was just really expensive in Supplies and Energy relative to other stuff I really needed like Warden Armor and Resistance Comms. Maybe on my Legend run.

Are UFO raids in this? Being playing for a good while now, and I've yet to come across landed or crashed UFOs (latter probably because there's no interceptor combat now).

How does the character pool work... if I save a high level solider to the pool, will I be able to unlock / buy her at some point in a new campaign? Or is it just their appearance?

You could have saved it, Commander.

They come eventually I think. Late game.

And man, do they look so much better than in XCOM 1.

On my second, current playthrough (Ironman Veteran) I got fucked up so badly Bradford was like "Look, this isn't worth it, just go home Commander"

Then I said fuck no and saved just enough civilians to make it a success.

The losses hurt tho

Hi everyone, hope your enjoying Xcom 2 so far.
Two questions :)

I am rocking a solid 30 fps with some dips when the levels first load and I am using stock med settings, I have a Intel 3570k and a Geforce 660 oc. Any opinions on settings that would work best?

I was also wondering how long it is taking some of you to complete the campaign. I replayed Enemy Unknown so many times and just wanted to compare the length. Thanks for your time.

Im at a little over 40 hours and ive been delaying finishing the game for the last 2-3 of those, and I restarted my campaign too so lets call it 30 hours (on veteran)

I feel like Enemy Unknown (also on normal) was longer, maybe not.

FUCK, the final boss area of the final mission is fucking bullshit. The difficulty went WAY up. i'll need to completely restart it and try a different loadout now. Wasn't this fucking stupid in the first game.

Why? What happened. Although I'm pretty anal about spoilers in general, feel free to spoil me for that game because I doubt I'll ever play it.

you should totally wiki it or watch the ending on YT. worth it.

Read it. Sounds like Mass Effect 3 ending. Am I missing something?

you guys were also right. why is the final area are so unoptimized. it's chugging at times and there's a delay when certain actions are done by you or the enemy. i still can't believe how ridiculously hard the final fight is.

I did two runs on commander ironman

1st took around 9-10 hours, then I fucked up my strategy layer and lost

2nd was 26-28 to beat the game

My first run on Veteran Ironman was a little over 30 hours, although I stuck around for like 4 months because I wanted to max everything out

Thanks for the quick responses :)
Good to hear it will keep me busy!

Nice consensus heh.

No idea where the 80 hour reports from youtubers were coming from tbh. Oh well.

yea, i'm at the final area and my playing time is 36 hours. i basically cleared out all ADVENT buildings and got all upgrades. it's not that long unless people take it slow or fail a lot.

Are you getting the colour glitch? I got massive colour glitches whenever an enemy or myself threw down a psychic warp thingy. Very annoying

Doing the skulljack objective...I have a mind controlled Advent Solider, and I moved him right next to my character with the skulljack, but I can't skulljack him.

He has to consent to the skulljack

nah that sounds like another glitch

or they just didn't want you to do that for some reason? but why

My 35ish (shaving off about 5 from restarting) was with A LOT of padding too getting all the upgrades and every region / tower (lol). Im not knocking the game for it btw, I loved it, but yeah those 60-80 hour reports were cray-cray

It has to be a commander and maybe it cant be mind controlled?

thankfully not, it just chugs at times and lots of pauses for some actions. can't help but feel they rushed the final area out the door.

Oh. I used a stun lancer. I just won control over a random enemy so I had that bright idea. I'll just kill him lol

It brought me back to the 90s, where games would bug out and look all rainbow when you alt-tabbed out of them sometimes.

I had loads of issues in the final 2 missions. The last mission especially performed like shit. A little tip tho:
Bumrush the avatars. Don't clear the trash you don't have to because you will never catch up. Also mind control an Archon if you can. They have high dodge and the enemy wasted a lot of their turns trying to shoot at it. Blazing Pinions is good against enemies, too.

Woot, got around dropping my GAF-COM submission.

I'll be sure to get you all killed on my first Ironman run sometime in the future :D

Those are annoying. They pop up when the alien youre targering has loot.

Like fuck off game, I dont care about the shitty scope it might have, that sectopod is going to shoot my face off, please let me bomb it back to Mars

You sure that is the trigger? I know I've bombed some of my loot-aliens to hell and back, as I've gotten the message that the loot has been destroyed, but not once have I gotten a friendly fire notice about it.

Was watching a stream.
Saw a friendly fire warning pop up.
Saddens the heart.

Sooo wounded aliens can activate nearby groups, huh? In XCOM they would bait you to do it, but now they do it by themselves.

Taking my time, learning the new systems etc...

Is it worth it using mods on early/normal weapons?

When do I know my team is ready for it's first Blacksite?
The mission(s) are available (a second one popped up) , but don't want to get slaughtered.

Yes, mods carry over when you upgrade weapons.

the blacksite will scale in strength as time goes on (bcuz stronger aliens etc)

when u got 5 soldiers, plated and mag weapons i say you're good to go

u can probably do it with 5 soldiers honestly

no time limit so u can be quite safe in ur approach

My tips: Don't waste your items leading up to the boss. When you get to the last area
try to take out the Avatars on the turn that they come out. In my game, they spawned with Vipers and Mechs LOL which meant that they were orders less threatening than the other stuff that spawned. You also need to take up aggressive positions in this last part... defensive turtling will only get your squad overwhelmed

Ok I just finished the final mission, have to say I had more fun with "normal" missions instead of hmm.. oh well at least I can start a new run now. If I remember right Divinity:OS had a similar final mission which I disliked as well.
