XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

So, even though the story is shit, here's what I got from XCOM 2's ending.

XCOM 1:
Etherals are enslaving other races for an unknown purpose.

XCOM 2:
It's because they, in their own selfish way, are "saving them" from an even bigger threat.

They had the exact same goal in 1. The two games have essentially the same plot.

Yea +1 for mimic beacons holy shit.

It led to a Muton, advent solider and sectoid standing on an exposed awning to attack it. Launched a grenade at that ledge and the fall damage + fire killed them.

Right now my record is a 98% miss. I hope to not break it.

I've gotten a Dodge/graze twice on 100% shots, that hurts me more than a 90% miss at this point.

i threw out a mimic beacon and they attacked my soldiers anyway :((

Mimic beacons still need LoS to work properly - I learned this the hard way just chucking one into a building as a hail mary and the aliens just completely ignoring it in favor of my exposed Ranger.

Gatekeeper is my most hated enemy so far. That AOE attack is ridiculous. I'm glad I can take them out now in one turn if I can get everyone to hit them.

is the
Advent Network Tower
the last mission?

I didnt know you would need intel for it (well not NEED per se) :/

edit: nvm the game is clearly saying it is... hmm can I keep playing and postpone it? My avatar bar is only at 4 ticks (lol ive been setting it back alot lately, I just dont want the game to end :/)

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but I'm pretty convinced there's cheating under the hood and that the % chances are the unmodified chances to hit, independent of difficulty.

I started on Veteran and was getting annihilated, so I went back to Beginner, and the amount of shots I hit on Beginner when the hit rate is ~50% is astounding, whereas when I was playing Veteran I would miss a LOT on 60%+.

I wouldn't be surprised if what the game showed us is the unmodified rate, then on Beginner you get +20% or something under the hood. If it's the case, I wish they would show it straight up instead of doing that, really.

Yeah, the game cheats for you and debuffs the enemy on all difficulty levels except Legendary.

Yeah that's the point of no return. Unless they baked it into the soldier's base aim, you don't see the 15% aim bonus on your shot stats if you buy the 33 crit upgrade as well. At least that's what I noticed when I bought everything except concealment.

I don't even think the mod launcher works correctly. I tried that Avatar mod on a save to see how it works, disabled it in the launcher, then played my main save that was at the start of a mission. I notice later that it also has the bars added.

Finally got my Lt. grenadier out of shaken after like 4 months of being wounded on and off. Even on the last mission she was the most shot at, lol.

Archon kept chasing after my shaken soldier no matter what. Pretty sure the AI is just designed to be a complete asshole.

Might be an ini edit, which might persist after the mod is disabled. Need to check to make sure, though.

Xcom isn't a game that ends.

So, I had just had my first proper UFO and my first Sectopod. Let's just say that was a fucking mess and some people died. Jane Kelly could have saved herself (and the others), if she hadn't missed the giant Sectopod standing right in front of her.

Also, the Avatar Project is doing me in. I can't keep up with it.

Looked up TB ending:
So is the XC:TB ending canon? It would align with a lot of stuff in XC1/XC2/

6th class incoming with the DLC this summer.

Yep. They're super good compared to EU's psi troops.

Makes me wonder what the sixth class is going to be, though. I can't think of a niche that isn't already covered.

Not sure if the length of being shaken affects this, but now she has the highest willpower among everyone, including some PCS enhanced guy.

Hmm... Retaliation mission. July.
Shadow Chamber says "ENEMY UNKNOWN"
on it. Considering what I have left of enemies to get introduced, this can only be bad news. Probably begins with a C and likes to burrow.

Looks like my Bladestorm Ranger is up. And Hacker Specialist with Scanning Protocol.

surprised theres no achievement for having all the continents and all the radio towers

running out of excuses to delay the last mission lol. Would like to train this psi soldier and see him at least tho

yeah next run I will go for PSI sooner. They are really versatile.
Guaranteed damage, stunning, protecting against panic, mind control.
And if you give them a exo/war suit they even have crowd control.

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?

I'm guessing some variant of the Mech soldier, honestly.

Or perhaps an 'android/mech' equivalent to the SHIV, given that MELD isn't mentioned....although the Advent blood is orange....

Has this been posted? Some fun stats about enemies, deaths, classes etc. Nothing was too unexpected except for the breakdown in what's causing soldier deaths. Ya'll need to start standing further away from cars.

Victory stats don't seem to be working yet.

I'd like to see a Deadliest Enemies chart that works out the average number of XCOM operatives killed per alien deployed. Like, one ADVENT officer averages 0.025 operative kills. The way it is now, the most common enemies will top the Deadliest Enemies list just because they're so common.

MECs would make sense, given that's it's Shen related and it's supposed to have its own weapons and armor and all, but WAR suits already cover most of the ground that they used to occupy.

Zombies as one of the most deadly? Whaat?!

I guess a lot of people really don't know how to deal with them or something. Unless they become more troublesome later on.

I think it's more just all the early-game enemies when your soldiers can be 1-shot and when people are learning the game. Wouldn't be surprised if it shifted slowly over time.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Would also explain the environmental death stat a bit.

How are people dying to zombies?

There are giant robots armed with enough ordinance to level buildings and people are dying to zombies?

It didn't work the first few times I tried it for some reason. I didn't need it because of autosave usually though

It doesn't work on every game screen - there are places in the geoscape where it won't work.

you can tell it's worked because the game stutters for a moment.

We did. We found out all difficulties except for Legendary has some of that

Because by the time you get to building leveling robots, you're prepared tactically as well as with more armor/abilities/firepower.

My four casualties have been to: an Advent Trooper, a Shieldbearer, and my own guys twice due to mind control shenanigans. I've fought way tougher and scarier dudes, but it's the beginning when rookies are all squishy that will claim the most casualties.

There's some wonky line of sight detection stuff going on in the final mission that is kind of stumping me. I managed to move a character undetected up to here:

w5CmHay.jpg

Yet if I try to move anyone near that area (like say behind the low cover at the bottom of the screen) they're immediately detected. What gives?

the final mission probably has aoe triggers for certain enemies that are hardcoded in a way taht doesn't work with vision

but for some reason stealth rangers ignore that

99% chance miss..... WHAT?????

Honestly, this game some weird rules for line of sight and aliens basically getting free turns. I don't know how you people do it on Ironman, I just feel cheated at times.

I thought all the missions to protect the Direct TV satellites were easy as hell, but I just had one that I don't think I could win if I tried it 10 times.

Turn 1&2
I spot an Andromedon and a couple pals, so I set up and take them out. Next turn another Andromedon and a buddy walk in to see what's going on. The turn ends with Andromedon 2.0 still up, and the alternate TV service device is having a rough time standing up to repeated shots from advanced weaponry.

Turn 3&4 (I think. I was starting to lose control of the situation and I may have blacked out)

I kill the Big Daddy, and a flare shows up (dark event I guess) signalling Advent reinforcements. I try to distract the guys that take cord cutting way too serious with a mimic beacon, but it does shit, so I overwatch and wait to see what gifts from heaven I'm about to receive. It's a MEC and a couple of troppers. One dies in a neat slowmo scene straight out of Platoon, I use a tower to stun the MEC, and the other guy goes down easy. I had one chance to salvage the mission, so I run my Ranger closer to the dish in hopes that he can still watch the democratic debates on CNN. -Spoilers- The ghost of Grover Cleveland could have showed and my Ranger wouldn't have known it...well, I guess he could set up some rabbit ears and watch some highlights later on the local news.

Turn 5 through I need immediate evac, now damnit, now!

Something something, Sectopod does the funky chicken all over the place, smashing buildings, dropping my framerate, and I tell the last samurai to go fuck himself when he says, "Let them fight." I spend the rest of my time taking down the Sectopod (Ranger ate a nasty flanked critical after avoiding his robotic dragon breath attack), while the troopers just run away and all nonchalant take cable TV down for the count. Everyone is all bummed out on the trip back to HQ, they even put in a tape with sad music on to express the depth of their feelings. I'd just be happy to be alive, but some people really love their TV.

Now I know the reason why the Resistance is futile. They put their top secret Data Interceptor Devices in the middle of a diner. GGWP, Resistance.

Aliens getting free turns is bullshit. Always has been, always will be.

I carefully aim my grenade as to not hit a vehicle near an enemy via the highlighting, and it manages to still hit/affect it and kill the soldier near it. :|

Yeah, that seems to be it. There was basically a "line" that when crossed immediately triggered the encounter even though it was nowhere near the detection area. Oh well.

so now that im seeing how you have to unlock each skill on the psi-soldier tree, I think the psichamber should have been a very early, almost mandatory construction.

No wonder most people say that they didnt even use them or make the thing until near the end. Kinda bummed about it tbh

I think it encourages different playstyles from the start. Hopefully they add more buildings in future releases so there are a bunch of paths to work for in the early game.

Honestly I wish there was more stuff like this, encouraging different play styles to add replayability. The three tier upgrade system where everything is clearly better than the last tier is lame, wish we had some alternatives with trade-offs or something to mix things up.

What different styles is it encouraging tho? All its doing is cutting off a 5th class. What are you doing differently? Its not like you cant build it early on or have to choose between PSIs and Rangers for example.

Hell the game never even explains what they are, I just assumed it was like the first game and it would just give one of your guys some new skills.
