NECA Toys director outright says Crash Bandicoot is coming back

The Poochie of the videogame world will be back!

Say what you will about "90s attitude" bullshit -- if you actually played the game you would know that was just the promotional artwork, Crash in game is more akin to a 1940s Tex Avery cartoon than 80s and 90s 'TUDE™.

Yep. As much as Crash was a product of his era in a lot of ways, the games always managed to avoid ever coming across as "xtreme". Naughty Dog clearly emphasised a cartoon-like sensibility ahead of shock value, and the trilogy only gets quirkier as it went on.

The platforming/puzzling/whatever and the writing was awful IMO. They need to let Insomniac do it.

I've never known anyone who actually though they were above average at best outside of this forum.

Me and everyone I know bought their Playstations because the first Crash was so amazing.

The other reason was
Battle Toshinden. In my defence I always thought that game was shit

No one liked Crash because he was "edgy" or "extreme" or whatever. The games had loony tunes kinda feeling. That fun feeling basically. I mean in the Naughty dog games he was pretty much a mute. Never was like "hey look at me! I'm so Radical!". Just whimsical music, simple gameplay, not too shabby environments for its time.

Like Mark Cerny said, those games well.. It began with Crash 2 really, were supposed to be introductory point for people who never played a video game before. IMO, i think it did its job.

It didn't have that gimmick to get kids to pay attention, like " woah, Crash has these cool powers and abilities! Mario and Sonic can't do that!"

Every time Crash trends or somewhat trends in social media, some of my non gamer friends talk about it. Talking about levels, bosses, favorite games in series, so on & so forth.

I don't know if this was the case for y'all.

I don't think I'd like Sumo to do a new CTR. Sonic Transformed is part of the Coldman Patented Kart Racing Holy Trinity, but it's so different to MKDS and CTR. Far heavier, far more emphasis on long drifts; far more aligned with, well, SEGA arcade racers.

CTR is nimble. You're constantly bouncing about, changing direction, triggering the mini-turbo, maximising how much air you're getting - it's ridiculously intense once you get a handle on how the boost system works, and gives you as much fine control over your vehicle as you get over, say, Mario in a Mario game.

I'd almost have to insist on Naughty Dog themselves doing a CTR2.

This is why I won't take a Crash racer called CTR 2 if it doesn't feature the same systems in terms of control and boost. CTR had a magic quality.

They could forget to put Crash in the game and it'd still be the one true sequel if it brought back the boost system. Dear god that thing was incredible.

I want to believe :) This would make me buy a PS4 !!!

First Knack II and now Crash. Sony going for that platforming crowd. But naw seriously looking forward to both being (1) real (2) confirmed (3) shown off.

Copied someone else's pancake recipe
It's a shame Naughty Dog probably wouldn't be developing. None of the Crash titles after them were very good. Would rather see if Insomniac would make 1 more Spyro.

Still excited as hell to see how this turns out. As long as it's good I'll be happy.

UPDATE] A representative for NECA told GameSpot today that the company is not in fact producing new Crash figures, at least not right now.

"It's not the case," the rep said. "Someone has misunderstood a comment he made. Randy saw a faked fan-made image right before he came to the show and said that if the game were coming back, we'd love to do figures."

Looks like the guy was just guessing. I figured as much from the way he said it.

It took them that long to respond? And that dude should have kept his mouth shut. He's still in big trouble regardless if they're making Crash figures or not.

I knew they would make an backpedaling statement since the toy fair is still going on and loads of journalists are probably bombarding them about this.

Edit: okay, I read that article once again and missed the fact that they say are producing any Crash figures. But hasn't said anything about Sony bringing Crash back.

Dude unwittingly breaks NDA and spins a semi-convincing yarn to save face and escape the dealthly clutches of Sony ninjas.

Honestly he looks fucking stupid by the statement given to gamespot... The fake cover was godawful... If it were true that he fell for that, fucks sake.

Yeah sorry, I don't fucking buy it.

Someone working CLOSELY with Sony on figures of their titles, something that requires IMMENSE attention to detail, fell for THIS SHIT?

hR0MWU4.jpg

This SCREAMS "I fucked up and this is my excuse."

The way I see it, he is either an idiot for saying what he shouldn't have, or he's an idiot for falling for the worst fake ever. If I had to look like an idiot, I'd probably wanna look like an idiot in the way where I don't get in trouble at work. Juuust saying.

I still think a new Crash is coming. As I said. Too much smoke. Shawn Layden pretty much hinted at it with his shirt. If not that was immense trolling on his part and I doubt he'd do something like that.

It really doesn't matter if he fell for a fake cover or is backpedaling after breaking an NDA. There are far too many signs pointing towards that there is something going on with Crash, from Sony's blatant teases, Acti not being able to put Crash in THPS5 because they "didn't have the rights", Bruce dropping hints for over a year, 2016 being Crash's 20th anniversary etc

I agree with you both, but this is the most transparent backpedaling from someone I've seen in ages.

Plus, look at this.
"It's not the case," the rep said. "Someone has misunderstood a comment he made. Randy saw a faked fan-made image right before he came to the show and said that if the game were coming back, we'd love to do figures."

A. Randy never said "We'd love to do figures". He never MENTIONED making Crash figures. He said "Sony is bringing back Crash Bandicoot."
B. That is nothing close to what he was actually quoted as saying, and we can tell that because we have VIDEO of him saying what he said, which flies in the face of what the NECA rep told GameSpot.

My favorite part is the trash-can right under Crash. So the sign literally says "Sony taking Crash out of the trash."

Yup :D

Completely agree with you.

That rep has to have half-a-brain if he thinks that crappy box art is legit enough.

Well, I dunno if I'm gonna insult the guy but like I said, what kind of stupid would you rather look on the internet? FIRED stupid or GULLIBLE stupid?

It's nice symbolism that I hope holds true.

Complaining about the writing in a Crash game? WAT?

What little writing there IS in most Crash games is fine, and the ones that ARE writing heavy are hilarious, even if the argument can be made that the characters are self-parodies at that point.

One thing that amazes me is that almost every theme song in the first 4 crash games is catchy. Can't think of one that is bad.

nah, people make mistakes. it's more of a case of people want to believe and want to dismiss things that say otherwise imo

2> CTR = 3 > 1

I just think that's a strange mistake for someone to make in a position where attention to detail is pretty much one of the key tenants of what makes their figures so well done.

Yep. A new game please. Take Crash 2 as a main blueprint and expand/refine it. Make it a more meatier game and I'm all good!

I just really, really don't want it to be a total rehash and not fix what was wrong with trying to rehash everything before. Wrath of Cortex is an example of how "just doing what the last game did but bigger" doesn't always work.

I can agree that the levels seemingly dragged on in that game, but my hope for a new title is to sort of up the variety in level design/themes. Shit started getting repetitive half way through Warped with a few exceptions.

Basically, give us the classic design with new ideas that best serve it. Kinda like the jump from Crash 1 to 2.

That's pretty much how I see it too. Warped also too heavily relied on non-platforming gimmicks.
