Kinda disappointing to hear about the judder but the good news of it looking better and sounding/playing fine means I'm just going to have to try it for myself and see.

I guess I'll stick to the 3DS VC versions. They play well and look fine, imo.

Disappointed by this, though. I've been keeping an eye on the Steam version for awhile and was hoping for some patches by the time the 3DS version launched.

Unless the patch for the current versions is launching next week with the retail SKUs, it seems that DE and Capcom basically flat-out lied to consumers. They guaranteed for months a patch with fixes was coming to all platforms. I'm pretty upset by this.

The judder is going to be one of those things that some people don't even notice, some people think it's okay anyway, and some people (like me) who are retro enthusiasts will hate.

I've fully played through Mega Man 2 now, and yeah it's annoying, but the game is still good and plays well. No latency issues, no audio issues, it is.. "fine".

But sadly, for me personally, "fine" isn't good enough. Not when you have people like M2 crafting the most beautiful and amazing versions of classics on the same machine.

I don't really know what you mean by "judder". I'm hoping it won't be game-breaking for me, if there really is a problem with the emulation.

Imagine the image freezing for a single frame then skipping ahead to catch up. Similar to the problem with Mario Kart 8 when racing against 12 CPUs, and 50Hz Virtual Console games on Wii U in Europe.

That does sound like it could be a really annoying problem. I've watched a bit of the PS4 and Xbox version of the game and never noticed anything like that.

Like I say, you might not even notice it. There are people who can't see the problems with Kart 8 or 50Hz VC, so I've no doubt they won't notice this either. But it's one of those things that when you do/can notice it...

Edit:

During my time with each game, I experienced not only frequent slow-down, but also got to see some enemies just up and disappear. In a series that often requires perfect reflexes, it can be frustrating dying due to something you have no control over. The problems are especially noticeable in the 3DS version of the set. I noticed a little more stuttering and skipping than I did when I played the console version of the game last year.

From this review. Relieved I'm not alone!

I think I'm going to cancel my 3DS pre-order and just stick with my PS4 copy. You know, the one they said they were going to patch six months ago.

Thanks for screwing this up, Digital Eclipse. I won't fall for your sales pitch again.

Edit - aaaaand canceled. I feel better now.

Man...those screens really do look a lot better than the VC versions.

I just found out this collection includes two Mega Man 3DS themes, so I went ahead and pre-ordered it again lol

I'm a wishy-washy SOB

I'm just as bad... I collect the series somewhat extensively so I've got the USA Gold Amiibo edition pre ordered along with the Japanese Collectors Edition.

Took a couple of quick shots myself. All direct raw output, no compression, etc. Exactly how the 3DS outputs.

I am very, very happy I have all my original megaman NES carts considering how this has turned out. Super disappointing considering how Digital Eclipse hyped up the new emulation methodology. But, it once again proves that if you want to play a classic, sometimes it's been to play it how the original developers intended.

Playing the original NES carts on a CRT TV via an RGB modded NES is glorious. So glad I got my console modded late last year, the series has never looked better!

The effort M2 put in their ports are insane. I love the Streets of Rage collection they did, tons of different options, visual options, and super solid netcode (co-op was an absolute blast).

Wow that's bad. I have never experienced that once though having played through all 6 games and done lots of the challenges, so I guess it's YMMV

I bought the physical PS4 version yesterday, booted up MM2, and got treated to the same garbled mess. Opening the home menu and immediately going back to the game fixed it, but it definitely wasn't a great first impression. The collection itself is nice, though. I'm surprised they even catered to weirdos like me and included a 16:9 option for those who don't mind fucking over aspect ratio in exchange for being able to fill out the whole screen.

Kinda glad I passed up the 3DS version, though. The place I bought it from had it for sale as well, but the judder definitely makes that a pass for me.

I absolutely cannot believe they're now selling this at retail and have still not patched the sound issues that have been present since August....and they promised during the first week they were going to fix it.

How the hell is this okay? I feel Frank Cifaldi and his team need to be called out for this shit, but of course, no one will. This industry sucks sometimes.

Absolutely!

Everytime I see this thread get bumped, I'm hoping that a patch for the PC version has been released.

Looks like I'm never buying this until it sees a discount.

So, is the 3DS release on February 23rd for US only or also Europe?

26th for Europe.

Absolutely embarrassing, considering their marketing last year as a new company creating archival, definitive editions of classics.

Yeah, what a joke. If these are their definitive editions, I'd hate to see their idea of a lazy port.

Guys, do yourself a favour and resist buying the 3DS version. Get Retroarch running on your 3DS (it's super easy) and play NES Mega Man how this should have been. I personally can't support this sort of developer.

I'm not surprised that they are not patching it, as the issues likely aren't with the game per say, but with their compiler they built to translate NES games to different platforms, and thus a lot harder to pin down.

They absolutely should patch it though. Or have spent more time QAing their platform before launching games on it.
