PlayStation Vue Goes Nationwide, Starting at $29.99 in New Markets

According to the FAQ:

EDIT:

Huh, I'm just going by what the site says, maybe mobile is an exception, or the site is outdated :/

The wording is confusing. This is what the iPhone app says:

"Live TV, sports, movies and On Demand programming available nationwide on your iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch* with PlayStation™Vue Mobile. You must have an active PlayStation™Vue subscription with an established home location originating through a PlayStation®4 or PlayStation®3 system."

It seems that as long as the home location of your PS4 doesn't change, you should be fine on mobile devices and potentially even the Fire TV? I'm a little confused by it also.

Shame it isn't a bandwidth-considerate service. Always tries to stream at 720p (though it will scaleif you have crappy internet speeds) and there is no low-res/low-bandwidth option like on Netflix, which historically obliterated our bandwidth cap until I switched it to low-res mode.

Yeah, I will be dropping Sling. $10 more per month for about three times the number of channels. Awesome.

Some in 2013 thought Sony would never use PlayStation brand for TV purposes. Yet now in 2016, PS Vue will seemingly make a bigger impact on cable TV than anything Xbox is doing.

I just got Sling last week and I will probably cancel before the next month. Vue provides at an extra $10 many more channels (including all - or close to all - that you get with Sling's basic plan), DVR, better on demand (particularly with the broadcast networks), and multiple streams. Plus I can get more sports, particularly regional fox sports for baseball, that would still put me at only $10 more than Sling's package with fewer sports channels, particularly no regional fox sports.

Sling needs to announce some improvements pronto, or they are going to bleed customers in a hurry.

Been using Vue for a few months when it was priced a little higher. I was considering dropping it altogether but the price change is a game changer. Not to mention the addition of a handful of new channels.

How is it overall? Also do does your ISP have a data cap? Mine is 350 GB a month but I usually go over it every month and they never say anything. But, was thinking about upgrading my speed to 100mbps then it'd be like 500GB cap a month...

My cable company would charge me extra to have cable on more than 1 TV. Luckily I have my PS4 in the living room and my PS3 in the bedroom.

I just wish the PS4 had a better remote, and no my TV doesn't support HDMI-CEC or whatever that is.

Not well at all. Slow/sluggish/laggy all when attempting to navigate the guide/channels/etc. The Fire Stick is much better. Can't vouch for the Fire TV, but the PS4 version is amazing. I stuck the fire stick in the bedroom and the PS4 in the living room. The Fire Stick version is usable, and better than the PS3 version, but after using the PS4 version it's clear that they're substandard experiences.

Can someone else chime in on this? I have a PS4 downstairs and was hoping to use the PS3 upstairs. I'm going to sign up for the free trial either way, but it'd be good to know ahead of time if the PS3 version is crappy.

My roommate had nothing but problems with PS3 over wifi. He ended up getting a wifi extender in his room and hooking up the PS3 via Ethernet to that. The PS3 wifi is unequivocally garbage in my experience and is best to be avoided at all costs.

I did a trial of this last week and didn't like the HD quality at all. It wasn't very artifacty, just not very clear to my standards. (good wired connection)

Awesome will definitely cancel sling for this.

Is sling really any worse? Thinking of cancelling directv for either this or sling. Sling would be cool because I could get the Ota tuner for my Xbox and then have everything on one device.

I'm enjoying sling so far, with an OTA antenna and sling I have about 90% of the stuff i want to watch.

Holy shit I am all over this.. I hated sling.. this seems to destroy the value of that service and if I read this right the middle package gets me my local sports teams I have been missing since I dropped cable.

Gonna have to debate between the 2 top levels, hope it performs well. Super excited.

PlayStation phone app?

With Sling, $20 gets you 23 channels. Everything else are add-ons, starting at $5 a channel.

Vue is $30 for 55 channels + unlimited cloud DVR.

Vue is going to be the better value for most people out there just by virtue of having DVR.

My understanding is you can't ffwd (skip commercials) with the cloud dvr (I could be wrong).

Now I'm waiting for Google Fiber to finish installing infrastructure in my area so I can get away from Comcast's shadiness and data caps.

Last time I checked, it was cheaper to bundle cable and internet than have only internet. Even though there's a 300GB cap, I have only hit it once (when redownloading games to a new PS4 hdd) but assume I'd hit it often when streaming TV.

Id hop on this but Verizon has me by the balls.

For just internet its like 86/month. If I want to add cable its 40 more. So I wouldn't be really saving much/anything.

The Logitech harmony smart hub works with ps4. Great set up. I have the keyboard edition and a remote that works with my tv, directv, ps4, xbox, pc, Wiig u, and surround receiver.

Interestig there is no Android phone/tabet support as Sony makes Android phones.

And of course I just bought a S7 Edge.

Still have my iPad Air 2 and PS4. The wifey still has her iPhone 6s Plus.

I heard that the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV stick do not work to well with it?

I don't have either but I do have two of the new Apple TV's which Vue does not supoort. At least not yet.

Yes but it's shit. Hdmi-cec works well with most apps (if your tv supports it).
Actually I've been using it since a few days and it's fine (afaik the punch in problem was solved). The one thing you have to be aware of is the auto-off feature which makes it unresponsible after 30mn, and you just have to push the PS button to "wake" it.

Edit: oh and some aps do not follow the standard key set, so not all the buttons work correctly in all the apps I guess.

The DVR works exactly as you would expect it to work. You can fast forward just like any other cable provider. You can't skip commercials during On Demand content, which is also the same as other cable providers.

The only weird thing about the DVR is it gets a little wonky if you're watching a live event from the DVR, but it seems to be getting better with each update.

Glad to see that the service is expanding. Hope that it keeps catching on, more competition would do wonders for the industry.

Sweet. Signed up for the Elite package. Can't beat $45 / month. Gonna try this for a week and see how it goes. I have a PS4, PS3 and Fire TV that this can stream through, so I should be good everywhere I want to watch TV. :)

I actually like sling but for this I would pay 10 more a month and get 30+ more channels including more sports so I get to watch my local NBA team. There is cloud DVR and you can watch on multiple devices at once vs. no DVR and only one device at a time. Just seems like a better deal.

Seattle-Tacoma, finally!

Did the week trial - had to use app on PS4 and do initial setup before I could use the iPad app

Works good so far

So how do we see the entire channel list? The one on the PS vue website has a partial list if you count up what's there. Like the second tier says 70+ but only 60 are listed.

Signed up for a 7 day trial, but it doesn't seem to be working on my PS3. An error says it "can't proceed".

What we are seeing now has always been the intents of Sony & Microsoft from the start when they made PlayStation & Xbox. Take over the living room TV the center of the home. MS was bold at the Xbox One reveal & showed their hand while Sony was smart & Trojan Horsed their storefront into millions of living rooms & you don't even need a PlayStation to use PlayStation Vue/PlayStation Now.

Sonys been doing this kind of stuff since the early 2000s though. We just never got it in the US. Japan got nasne and torne the UK got PlayTv and now we're getting the best of booth world's with PS Vue.

Batteries the CRISIS!
I made an Excel spreadsheet comparing Vue's Access Slim package, Sling's base package and Sling plus two add-on packages (because that would make Sling cost as much as Vue so it might be a better comparison*). It's viewable on my Google Drive here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6P-cfWcPIvmNXAySWpIb1VXdzQ/view?usp=sharing

Red Xes are for channels that all three options have, and blue Xes are for channels that Vue and the $30 "Sling plus two packages" option have. Black Xes are for channels that are exclusive to either Vue or Sling.

*The two Sling packages I chose were Kids Extra and Lifetime Extra, since those two brought Sling in line with Vue the most, channel-wise, for the best comparison.

I might make another comparing Vue's sports package (the $35 Core Slim) with Sling plus three packages (Sports Extra, Kids Extra and Lifetime Extra, costing $35).

[edit] I made a mistake: Vue doesn't have History Channel while Sling does. (I marked in my spreadsheet that Vue has History Channel, which is erroneous.)

[edit 2] I've reuploaded the original comparison among Vue Access Slim, Sling's basic package and Sling plus the Kids and Lifestyle add-ons, now with numbers for the total channels and total exclusive channels added to the bottom of the document and the History Channel error corrected: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6P-cfWcPIvmdnhXWjMzTDA0TWM/view?usp=sharing
