Is Kotaku in danger of shutting down?

Actually Giant Bomb was fine with Patrick going to Chicago. If Kotaku goes under I would to see him come back. Patrick and Austin could do some awesome stuff. More likely I can see someone like Polygon trying to get him.

If it comes to this, I hope Jason, Patrick, Kirk and the other Kotaku guys do a Patreon together or something.

Gawker is a piece of shit, but Kotaku is still my favorite gaming website. I love them so much.

This will be an interesting appeal. I'm not surprised at a jury decision in favor of Hogan, but it sets a weird precedent for the press.

Giant Bomb replaced Patrick and apparently isn't interesting in hiring anytime soon.

Him and Jason will be fine. Actual journalists in the gaming industry are hard to find and they're top tier. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Kotaku as a whole will be fine imo.

If Kotaku is profitable, it won't shut down.

It'll be sold to help cover that $115 mil.

Womp. Well there the answer is.

It's overall good though. You shouldn't mess with peoples privacy like that for cheap things like views and hits.

I hope some of the better sites get picked up by external companies. I actually like quite a few of Kotaku's articles. Their Jalopnik car site is pretty good as well.

I'm sure 4chan are celebrating by watching old WWF clips. I hope sneaky press fuck Jason Schreier and his colleagues that weren't involved in this mess (for clarification, yes, I know Kotaku wasn't involved. I'm referring to Gawker as a whole) land safely on their feet.
They're not watching old WWF clips right now, but discussing it and celebrating it in a thread in /v/.

Denton has to pay out of his pocket. They can't even do things like impose pay cuts on their employees.

Klepek is probably joking. They're more than fine.

I might as well say it again - the Gawker editor AJ Daulerio also said, and this is on video in court, that the only way they'd not post a sex tape of a celebrity on their site is if they were a child under four years old.

The people at Gawker are clowns and Hogan's lawyer tore them to shreds for this shit. I understand it sucks that people you like work at Gawker, but maybe they would be better suited to places that didn't have management that said shit like this.

I'm guessing Denton and company are going to have to dip into those tax shelters that they've held in the Caymans and Hungary for several years.

If anything this is karma for them paying almost zero in taxes.

I hope not :/ they seem to be one of the few sites that regularly publish investigative articles and researched rather than reactionary opinion articles.

I hope if this goes badly for Kotaku, those guys land on their feet. Jason, Patrick, Patricia, and most of the core staff seem like good people. Hate to see real talent dismantled due to stuff like this.

I said this in the other thread, but if Kotaku is profitable, it has 0% chance of getting shut down. Someone will buy it. Now, if that company mucks it up, sure, it'll get shut down then, but I'm pretty sure Kotaku itself will be just fine.

It's not a GameTrailers situation, as that was an unsustainable model on the way out, whereas I'm pretty sure Kotaku is profitable.

I'm so happy Gawker lost but I hate that the one aspect I do like of them, Kotaku and its staff, is caught up in this. It's a shame but everyone there is talented and will find new jobs.

FYI, for people wondering what happened

https://twitter.com/Gawker/status/327537977922318337

Gawker was ordered to take down the video by a judge when they first posted it and refused. Surprised they didn't get contempt of court.

If Gawker were told by a Judge to take the video down and they didn't then of course they would end up getting sued.

Sure hope that the clicks were worth not taking down the video.

I might as well say it again - the Gawker editor AJ Daulerio also said, and this is on video in court, that the only way they'd not post a sex tape of a celebrity on their site is if they were a child under four years old.
.

So then by their logic a sex tape of a 5 years old is okay? :|

No wonder they lost if they tried arguing with that logic.

The US lawsuit system is completely ridiculous

Kotaku have so much talent and just fucking got unionized writing and this fucking shit happens? 115 million US dollars? Are you kidding me? To some white dude celebrity wrestler who already has more than he needs?

Darkest timeline indeed

Edit: thanks for the replies, not thinking about gawker but just kotaku. Fuck gawker indeed

Let's ignore the fact they put up a sex tape for hits and traffic, and ignored a judge telling them to take it down.

Don't paint this so one sided.
