Samorost 3 is point and click exploration adventure game from the makers of Machinarium.

The game is a loose continuation of small web games Samorost (2003) and Samorost 2 (2005).
Five years in the making, Samorost 3 is our biggest and most ambitious project up to date.

One day, the little space gnome finds a strange magical flute that fell down from the sky, and with its help he is able to build a
new spaceship, explore 5 different planets and 4 moons, solve many mysteries, and also find out where the flute is coming from.

Q&A

Q. Can one play Samorost 3 without having played 1 & 2?

A. Samorost 3 is completely independent game so you don't have to play Samorost 1 or 2 at all. the first two are very old, small games with
medicore game design. Samorost 3 is much bigger (in fact, significantly bigger than Machinarium) with the story which is not connected with previous titles.
Q. Coming to consoles?

A. There’s no word yet on whether Samorost 3 will be heading to consoles as Amanita Design’s 2009 game Machinarium did. Hopefully in the near future.

Reviews

Kill Screen:
Samorost 3 is the best adventure game in years.

PC Gamer:
A warm and joyful adventure through a magical world; obtuse at times, but more interested in delighting than challenging.

RPS:
Samorost is where it all began for Amanita Design, and this return to the series, following their huge raise in reputation and awareness with Machinarium and Botanicula, is a stunning labour of love. Phenomenally beautiful, exquisitely animated, and constantly delightful and joyous, this is a lovely thing. But it’s also the hardest game they’ve made so far, and I’m not sure that’s always for the best.

makes good threads.
Can't believe it's been over a decade since the last Samorost came out. Very charming little adventure games with an odd sense of humor that I really like. Can't wait to play this one.

Gonna drunk some green tea and chill out playing this tomorrow night. Hope it is a big game for $20. I remember them saying like 30 hour console like experience at one point.

Oh wow, this is coming out now? I had almost forgotten about it. Given how much I enjoyed Machinarium and the aesthetics of Samorost 1 and 2, I'll definitely have to get this.

This crept up quickly. It feels as though just last week I was bemoaning the 2016 release date.

Machinarium 2 next, pretty please.

Is the Cosmic Edition not coming to Steam? I can only get the game plus the DLC which is more than $24.99.

Apparently Amanita doesn't want to sell it on Steam (Store/Retail Key sub -> CD Key sub). The difference is only a couple of bucks, though, unless you're in a region wherein games are cheaper by default and were hoping for a "discount".

Edit: Ah, I see, Amanita was setting up a bundle as opposed to a multi-app package.

Oh, this is just lovely. I didn't expect some simple clarinet music to move me so much. Amanita's games are always beautiful and this is no exception - it's the music this time that is impressing me in particular. I just did a puzzle where (second planet spoilers)
you have to make three lizards sing a song to open something. The puzzle involves sliding "thistles" up and down to produce the correct tune - but EVERY level of the thistle for each lizard produces a different harmony/vocal percussion line, so you can mix and match them to your heart's content
. It's marvellous.

With that said, I'm, um, stuck, quite early on. Given that it has an inbuilt hint system, I am a bit flummoxed as to why.

(spoilers for the second planet)

I get that I have to do something with popping the turtle's bubble-wrap back, but I don't really understand what. The hint suggests that, when you use the trumpet, the ghost that comes out of the turtle should show you a path or similar, but the turtle just swallows it instantly. I've tried following what I think is the pattern the hint shows you, but it doesn't do anything as far as I can see - and I don't understand WHY that's the pattern, either.

Can anyone explain this one to me?

It's probably safe to assume that while the game may be difficult, there isn't anything as frustrating as Machinarium's pre-patch five in a row mini-game, haha.

Also, for what it's worth, the Steam version is completely DRM-free.

This looks great. I'm not familiar with the Samorost games but i enjoyed Machinarium a lot. I also bought Botanicula on iOS but never played it so far. I might actually start that one first. I'd love to play Samorost on console though so i hope a console version is announced at some point.

You need to play the trumpet, pop all bubbles and play the trumpet again, then it should show you the right way to hit the bubbles. Pop them all and play the trumpet again, see here at 2:55 https://youtu.be/ByeZWnT3U8o?t=2m56s

Only learned about this game today. Haven't played the first 2 but really liked Machinarium and LOVED Botanicula so I just bought this. Can't wait for it to finish downloading.

This game is so beautiful. Above and beyond Amanita's earlier games even. I love that it even has some inventory management!

(I'd still love to have a new Machinarium though)

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
I had NO IDEA there was a Samorost 3. And it's out today. Holy shit, yes I'm gonna buy this as soon as I'm at my gaming PC again.

I absolutely adore all of Amanita's work. I genuinely think they're the most underrated developer in the industry. I will say I kind of wish this were more bite-sized like the previous Samorost games and Botanicula, but maybe making it more substantial in size will earn them more mainstream attention. I will be picking it up as soon as I have the time and money.

Anyone have any hints for the *spoilers for the last zone*
rotating pan flute puzzle? I'm confident the sound pattern is correct but maybe the puzzle is about the water, and not necessarily the correct sound pattern. Is the heron important?

So uh
After the second planet what should I do with the fruits on this floating wood? I have apples etc. but don`t see anywhere to interact with them, besides growing flowers

You've probably solved this by now, but there are two puzzles here.
One involves the sound pattern, which is for an achievement only. The other is for progression, and involves which hole you deliver water to last.

How long is this? Just bought the Cosmic edition. I loved Botanicula, didn't play enough of Machinarium.

In all honesty, not very. Steam tells me I got to the end in about 2 and a half hours. They were an excellent use of that time, and I do not begrudge the cost in the slightest - every minute of it was spent marvelling at something (or being stuck on a puzzle...)

I hope this doesn't put people off the game. The price might seem high for the length, but the production values are excellent and this is not a "narrative experience" with all the derogatory connotations thereof.

I shot people I like more for less.
Too much on my plate at the moment, but definitely picking this up down the line. Love Amanita Design.

2.5 hours? You seem to be the one low end. Destructoid says around 5-6, and the Steam reviews range from 4 to 9.

Finally picked this up and damn, it has to be the most gorgeous game I've played this year so far, and that's counting Oxenfree, Firewatch, and SuperHOT. This is a labor of love, which I think a work in any medium has to be when it's a sequel released 11 years after the last game and has this much care and polish and artistic confidence.

Excellent! Love me some short lengths.
