Quantum Break Episode Pack(Live Action Show), 75GB download on Xbox One

Well, the first act is already on youtube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDYHKC_CJNI

and it last an hour and a half (tv show included). Still, we have to consider that act 1 part 1 is missing for plot reasons, so we have to add that. Part 2 and part 3 are each 30 min long, so if we assume the same for part 1, we can add other 30 min.

So first act + tv show episode could be 2 hours long.

Of course we have to consider that it all depends on how people play, and how much attention a player give on collectibles and reading stuff.
So in line with that 2h15m that reviewer on GAF said.

Can you start a download, then look under network settings what the current bandwidth usage is? I would like to know how much MS is capable of actually delivering.
My XB1 peaks around 200Mbit/s and averages around 175Mbit/s when downloading these files. Which is on par with my other downloads from XB1. It's not terrible but not great either, imo. PC clients such as Steam and Uplay all serve data at a faster rate.

I've got a 500/500 fiber connection and a fully wired 1Gbit private network to which the XB1 is directly hooked up. The limiting factors here are the speed at which the hard disk can process the data and the rate at which MS is willing to serve the data.

Edit: When I use remote play on my PC it drops to 3Mbit/s.

The average write speed of a good 5400RPM is about 130MB/s, which is 1040Mb/s = Gigabit Fibre speed, so it shouldn't cap out even at 500Mb/s.
Unless I'm missing something.

Continues writing at max capacity of the drive can be a problem for some drives. Steam actually pauses the downloads on my PC a few times just to give the drive time to process the data. Strangely enough Uplay doesn't have this problem. Guess it also depend on how the download manager handles it.

Always wondered why Steam did this, but never looked into the reason.

That can be now checked off the list, lol. Always learn something new everyday.

I wonder why they just didn't do it all as real time cutscenes.
Because the game was conceived at the time when Microsoft intended to invest a lot into live action series (this, Halo etc.)
Then after they abandoned the entire venture in 2014, this game was all that remained.

Or closer to the two hours we read in this thread. (30mn for each part, 30mn for the live action).
I thought the live action was supposed to be 22mn though? In the youtube video it's more like half an hour. Also, i thought there were only 4 episodes, so the last chapter doesn't have one?

I assume that it's because of that based on disk/network usage and the client saying 'writing to disk' ';) I might be completely off the mark here.
It does make sense, probably less of a chance for file corruption as well if the disc has time to do it's thing.
Data corruption has nothing to do with that ;)

Are these optional or necessary to understand the story? I'm really not looking forward to having to watch these when I just want to play the game.

Blah blah blah. Here's the real reason:

Because we like live action since the first Max Payne. Because the show is from the perspective of the villains so using another medium made sense to differentiate it.

Also, animating a 20 cut-scene with lighting, vfx, all of that...that would have been beyond us really, that would have taken massive amount of resources. I dont think a 20 minute animted in-game cut-scene showing whats up at Monarch Solutions would have really worked.

I tried to preload this but it seems I can't download until April 4th.

Are you sure? Someone replied to me earlier saying that he pre-ordered and was pre-loading as he wrote.

In order to pre-load go to:

My Games & Apps > Quantum Break > Press your controller's "Menu Button" > Manage Game > Quantum Break Episode Pack > Install

This is if you have already pre-ordered Quantum Break. You can't download this through the store. It will tell you that it is "Bundle Only".

Yea the episodes are supposed to be 20 min, so if act 1 is 2 hrs and it's the shortest act, then 5 acts are at least 10 hrs. Where did people get 8 hrs from?

So, this would take me 150 hours to download.
There is no fucking way I'll be able to stream 1080p video.
Will I have the option to stream the live action components at a lower resolution/quality?

It will probably have multiple buffering settings based on your speed if it uses the Microsoft Films and TV setup. So if it detects a low speed it will probably buffer up to 480p.

I'd be okay with streaming it, but if someone hammers my connection through watching IPTV in my household while I get to watch an episode, I'll better download it now to watch it in its full glory.

Once i get this bad boy, im finally going to take a break from halo 5.

Maybe it'll start a trend and make me want to finish rise of the tombraider and the evil within. ... omg i have so much unfinished backlog...

Doesn't IPTV reserve bandwidth for the TV service beyond what your Internet package can do?

ez my internet not even gonna break a sweat.

Holy shit how is 88 Minutes of footage so damn big
How I long for such Internet connection...

I hope we can preload this

This is my thoughts too. I am buying physical but it seems silly to limit something so big even for disc people. Normally I wouldn't mind so much, the size isnt a problem for me but there is only so much I can download before I want to play the game... I hope there is a plan for this

Oh damn, that sucks. For Bell Fibe, if you have a 30Mb download they give you 51Mb down because they reserve 21Mb for IPTV (7Mb x 3 TVs).

Telekom promises 16Mb, but I only get 10-12Mb and while someone watches IPTV I'm left with 1-3Mb.

---------

Regarding the playtime. The highest difficulty surely will extend it a bit, right? Does anyone know if the highest difficulty is available right from the start or does it need to be unlocked with one playthrough?

I guess the game will be like 15 hours including the TV show episodes, of course that on the first playthrough without skipping nothing, and i'd be fine with that, i don't like when games are longer than they should be, getting filled with useless backtracking or ripetitive and boring mechanics, also it looks like the game will offer different choices at the end of each chapter, which could change the game's story progression, giving also different episodes of the TV show, so i guess we'll be pretty incentivized to replay it

PS: i'd i also think that's why the TV show is 75GB, in my opinion those are not just 4 episodes but at least 8, since you can have two episodes available after each chapter based on the choice you made in the game

15 hours would be absolutely solid imo. The only playthrough figures we have thus far suggest 8 hours 15 minutes first play through, including collecting, exploring and the live action cutscenes. Remove the live action stuff and you're left with 6 hours and 45 minutes. That said, we can't confirm the validity of that post. I'm hoping most play through's will be over 10-12 hours including the live action cut scenes.

Do different levels/gameplay scenarios open up based on the branching narrative paths?

If it's only the cut-scenes that change, I can just YouTube those.

Thank you. I was searching for a button on the store. It didn't occur to me to look in games and app management.

It's just extremely unlikely for Remedy to make Quantum Break just short of 7 hours. That would be highly unexpected. Alan Wake has a 13 hours average for combined and even American Nightmare has a 4 hours average combined.
The expected would be 10-12 hours of gameplay minimum in my opinion. April 1st can't come soon enough, we'll get real stats from reviewers.

They said there are also differences in gameplay like more/different enemies. im not expecting huge changes however.

Minimum? I don't expect it to be a ginormous game, I think you might be a bit disappointed. Obviously I could be wrong, but 10 hours would be good (of gameplay) I'm not expecting more than that personally... they've been quite quiet on length

For most people Alan Wake was 10 hours max. I remember beating it myself in around 9. QB will probably be around that in length if not a bit shorter due to ever increasing development costs in general.

I'm thinking that if they won't give the option to download those on PC i could just play on PC and then switch to Xbox One to watch the show, since saves and everything should be synchonized, i hope i won't have to do that though....

His link shows 11 hours avg. for the main story... 13 hours avg. is getting all collectives.

QB will be less than 10 hours including cutscenes... that is my take.
